Boomerang has been overseas for some time now--the differences in the relaunch seem to be that the channel won't be commercial-free in the U.S. anymore and that contemporary series (originals or overseas acquisitions) will be added to the mix, which will probably piss off the hardcores who want to watch The Roman Holidays or Goober and the Ghost Chasers or the other more obscure H-B titles. However, one has to realize that Dexter's Lab and PowerPuff Girls are now 20 years old and that classic TV channels are going to have to add post-1980 programs to the mix. In the case of an animation channel, since the 90s were the decade of the revitalization of television animation, showing 90s titles is almost a given, especially for the target demo who watched them when they were first run. HBO is using the phrase over-the-top in their PR - that's the same language WWE used when launching the WWE Network earlier this year at CES. That confirms that the online-only subscriptions will sidestep the cable/satellite providers entirely. Cost is the huge unknown here. HBO will need to weigh their pricing against Netflix and Hulu, and while the two existing services aren't exactly carbon copies of HBO, potential customers will certainly make the comparison anyway. (Oh, and Amazon, but not really.) The $8-9 price point seems to be the sweet spot for online programming services (WWE comes in higher at $9.99, but they've got a niche audience). Assuming HBOGo remains the same as it is now (movie library + originals immediately after first airing [except LWT] + library of old original series), a $9-10 price point might be reasonable.
