[TV orNotTV] Billy Graham Coverage

2018-02-21 Thread stannc
I’m in Charlotte which, among other things, is Bill Graham central.
The three major networks dumped out of their network morning shows in favor of
local coverage.
It was odd that WCNC showed local coverage instead of KLG with Meagan Kelley on
the Today 9:00 hour doing a tribute to Billy Graham. WBTV used their 9:00an
local lifestyle hour to discuss him. It looked like WSOC went to Kelly and Ryan
at 9:00.
After that I had to work :)

The answer to why American athletes aren't doing well has to be found in
the time before the Olympics, during World Championships and other
international events. Are the Americans dominant there? I don't follow any
of these sports and I will defer to anybody here who does. I thought the
Winter Olympics added snowboarding and other X-Games style events to give
the US more medals and it may be that they have been passed by other
countries. as we don't pay attention to these sports outside the Olympics
we see NBC try to rev up interest in the games by talking about and to
local athletes without giving a sense of if they are objectively expected
to win medals at their sports. With our sense of national entitlement
deflated, US viewers may choose to stop watching as American athletes
continually fall short.

they both show up, will moderate a debate between incumbent Governor Tom

I present, without opinion of any kind, a story that appeared in today’s

Two are biggies: WGN and WPIX... which they will continue to operate under
agreements with the as-yet-undisclosed buyers.

KSWB San Diego's eventual taker will be completely free to ignore the
conglom.

A commenter (nobody I know) at Variety

Re: [TV orNotTV] NBC’s Winter Olympics

2018-02-21 Thread Doug Eastick
the few times I've put on NBC, in the evenings, I've been impressed how
much has actually been live.

As usual, I've been impressed with the trio of Canadian coverage (CBC,
TSN's 5 channels, and Sportsnet's 3 channels). Not all of the TSN and SN
channels are used, but we usually have 3 live channels to pick from each
evening. And if you can't find what you want, stream+chromecast works
just fine.

if you are keen into curling and twitter, check out the encouragements that
@Hollywoodcurl has been putting out to people to go try the sport,
including @MrT

I'm glad you are. I find myself completely uninterested, and haven't sat
down to watch anything. When I've been someplace where they're on, I've
looked but find myself totally unengaged.

If NHL players were there, I'd probably pay some attention to hockey, but I
have yet to flip by NBC and feel any compulsion to stop.
