Re: [TV orNotTV] Quick Review: History of Swear Words on Netflix

2021-02-03 Thread PGage
I was trying to think of this back when Steve posted originally. Ran into
it tonight looking up something else...

>From the Wikis:

“The issue of the authenticity of Deadwood's dialogue has even been alluded
to in the show itself. Early in the second season, E.B. Farnum has fleeced
Francis Wolcott of $9,900, and Farnum tries to console the geologist:

EB: Some ancient Italian maxim fits our situation, whose particulars escape
me.

Wolcott: Is the gist that I'm shit outta luck?

EB: Did they speak that way then?

Re: [TV orNotTV] Jimmy Kimmel Live No. 1 in late night ratings?

2021-02-03 Thread Mark Jeffries
Colbert is doing a live post-Super Bowl show Sunday night. Back in 2016,
he was the direct post-game attraction and most people agreed that it was a
weak effort--which is why the direct post-game attraction is the series
premiere of Queen Latifah's reboot of "The Equalizer"--the first time in
years a new series premiere has been the post-game attraction since--the
last time CBS had the Big Game in 2019, with the premiere of the bomb
talent show "The World's Best" with British Jimmy and ViacomCBS family
members Drew Barrymore and RuPaul. (In the Great White North, CTV is
following the Big Game with the premiere of a homegrown drama series,
"Holmes Family Effect"--last year it was "The Masked Singer" and the year
before that an OTA edition of sister channel TSN's "SC with Jay &
Dan"--that would be "SportsCentre"--dah da dah, dah da dah--Disney owns
part of TSN).

Ken retweeted the Jeopardy announcement when it came out and the responses
were all about Dr Oz. I agree Ken has quickly fit in as host. I listened to
a long form with Alex on Nerdist years ago and they asked him what will
happen when he is no longer hosting. Alex said it will be easier than
people think to find someone who can read clues. There's more to it than
that, of course, but Alex never thought he was irreplaceable.

Having attempted to rewatch the ‘70s series, if guys of a certain
generation are honest, the main (only) reason for watching it back in the
day was Erin Gray in skin-tight outfits... since treatment of such a
character is unlikely to happen now without facing massive backlash, one
hopes for a better story this time around.

I saw Holbrook on his final tour as Mark Twain in 2017. Let's just say...

I loved the guy, and I'm glad I saw him, but I wish I'd done it 10 or 20
