[U2] AIX system using Windows Active Directory for authentication?
Guys, I know of at least one customer who does something like this between Linux and Windows - I believe all users and passwords are managed via Windows and when they log on to Linux the username and password are passed to Windows to be checked. I presume this isn't a Linux specific thing, but would love to have that confirmed and also to hear from anyone using the same concept on AIX so I know what is involved and if there are any extra products that have to be licensed or installed to make it hang together. It moves a file from one directory on the NT server (on which Universe resides) to another (archive) directory on the same server. It also copies that file from the NT server to another server on the network. I have a PICK BASIC program that invokes that .bat file using EXECUTE DOS /c runit.bat. This PICK BASIC program works perfectly when run from a live session, but not from a phantom. When invoked from the phantom, the same server move works fine, but the copy to another server does nothing. Clearly, the .bat file is always being invoked, but it's almost like the other server isn't recognized from the phantom session. Anyone else experience anything like this? What gives? HP-UX has some examples on how to integrate their ldap with Micro$ofts Active Directory. http://docs.hp.com/en/J4269-90031/ch02s05.html There are many, many other hoto's for Linux and Active Directory. Most will require editing of many configuration files for ldap and pam in order to get them working. We are still taking baby steps with our Active Directory setup so I have not attempted to mess with this in a production environment. --- u2-users mailing list u2-users@listserver.u2ug.org To unsubscribe please visit http://listserver.u2ug.org/

[U2] Basic questions from a noob
Hello, I have some quick questions regarding UniData software. Recently I was hired as Network Administrator and some of our systems run on UniData. I would like to know as much as I can about this system. Here are some of my details: My server details: Dell PowerEdge 2500SC Dual Pentium III 1.2 GHz processors 1.0 GB RAM, 1536 MB pagefile Windows 2000 Server (SP3) Three-disk SCSI RAID 5 array (Dell / Adaptec hardware RAID) Approximately 30 simultaneous users all running Windows using telnet sessions to access the server My questions: How can I find out which version I am running? Why does UDT.exe cause the server CPU to remain at 50% occasionally and how can I stop this from happening? I did spot some articles relating to the issue I am having but I believe they relate to Unix or Linux because they involve running top on the server. I know Windows systems in general are terrible for memory leaks, bugs, insecurities, etc, but the issue remains that udt.exe takes up 50% of my CPU, and that is not a Windows problem that I am aware of. Please help point me in the correct direction. Thank You! Timothy J. Landmesser Network Administrator David J. That would be the LIST TO DELIM syntax. Using a single (non-printable) tab character between the quotes will generate a tab-delimited file which is very easy to pull into a spreadsheet. Is there a way to print a character between each attribute? Jeff, YOu have three main options: 1. Create a composite field or EVAL expression that includes the fields you need with a specified delimiter: e.g. LIST MyFile EVAL MyField1:'|':MyField2:'|':MyField3 etc. NOTE you will need to do some work if the fields are multivalued. 2. Similar, but save the composite field contents using a SELECT ... SAVING option. This will save the fields you want to a select list that you can then open and read directly from the SAVEDLISTS file. 3. Look at the options for producing XML output using the TOXML ATTRIBUTES keywords IF you are on UniVerse 10 (preferably 10.1). This may prove simpler to parse and is certainly easier for multivalued fields and for filtering such as WHEN clauses. Re: [U2] [UV] indexed 64 bit files
Glen, Thanks for the help. UVCONFIG ALL shows 64BIT_FILES = -1. Weird that I could RESIZE to 64bit eh? Thanks, Scott -- Original message -- It's odd that you could convert the data file (which would have at some point done a mkdbfile with a -64BIT option) yet cannot create indexes. A few things could cause that particular message to be generated by mkdbfile: 1) Your system doesn't support 64 bit files (which we know is patently false for HP at that revision), 2) Your uvconfig value for 64BIT_FILES is either set to negative value (or the shared memory value of it is bogus), 3) You INDEX.MAP file is corrupted and the sequencing code is getting confused, or 4) I have no other guesses. :-) I believe it would have been safer to remove the indexes, then convert the data file over to 64bit, then recreate each index. That would keep everything in sync. To fix that, you could use SET.INDEX to remove the index pointer in the data file header (abandoning the existing index directory), then re-create all the indexes over again. Not the most elegant solution but it would work. Hope this helps. _ I reject your reality and substitute my own - Adam Savage Glenn M. A colleague of mine did a load of tests, passing assorted number-style strings to the NUM() function, and it seemed to accept almost any mix of spaces. This lurking Brit would like to respond on behalf of other Brits and to thank you all for your good wishes. I know this is going to be described as England's 9/11, but it doesn't really feel like that. Rightly or wrongly, it's not going to change the way we view the rest of the world or ourselves; there will be some attempts to insist that we introduce more authoritarian measures like ID cards, until it becomes clear that they wouldn't make a blind bit of difference. Re: [U2] Problem with phantom on Universe/NT
In a message dated 7/6/2005 3:08:10 PM Pacific Daylight Time, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: I have a DOS .bat command that does 2 things. What gives? Any insight greatly appreciated. Can you provide the full code for the .bat file and for the Pick BASIC program as well? Thanks.
