RE: [U2] [UV] unirpc daemon, stopping and re-starting it from cron

2006-05-09 Thread Senn, Bruce
FWIW, you can't always be sure of the environment when running something
from cron. You might be missing something in the PATH variable or some
other environment variable.

I guess a question is whether this has worked in the past or is
something new that you are trying to do?

HTH.

Subject: [U2] [UV] unirpc daemon, stopping and re-starting it from cron

Hello,

We have a cron job which does the following:

1- Uses Universe's uv.rc script to stop Universe and
unirpc daemon
2- Make a backup of the Production account into a
different filesystem on the production machine.
3- Restart Universe unirps using the uv.rc script
4- Start the backup to tape of the copy of the
production environment.

When Universe is re-started along with the unirpc
daemon within the cron job, Universe works but the
unirpc daemon doesn't work correctly. It must be
stopped manually from the uv menu and re-started. Has
anyone here encountered a similar problem ?

I've tried to get support help from IBM but I get the
run-around. I'm told that IBM won't debug my
companies script even though I've repeatedly told them
that the script we are using the uv.rc script that was
written by IBM.

We are running Universe 10.1.8 on a HP.UX 11i machine.

[U2] Uninstalling Unidata Previous Version

2006-04-20 Thread Senn, Bruce
We recently upgraded from Unidata 6.0 to Unidata 6.1 and then to Unidata
7.0 on a Windows platform. The upgrade was done without uninstalling or
removing the previous version.

However, we would now like to uninstall the previous versions, or at
least 6.0.

Under Control Panels -- Add or Remove Programs there is an item for
each Unidata version, but I'm concerned about UniRPC and items in the
unishared directory under C:\IBM.

Also, I have not been able to find documentation in the Unidata Manual
Set for uninstalling a previous version of Unidata.

The process is pretty straightforward on Unix -- remove the directory
for the previous version. On Windows in addition to the udxx directory
there are Registry entries galore.

TIA for any insight and advice.

Bruce.

RE: [U2] Window User setup for Universe

2006-04-10 Thread Senn, Bruce
We have experienced the same error with Unidata on Windows. The system
has a local user for each domain user, who will access the system, but
the passwords are different. When the user name is entered without the
domain name prefixed, Unidata first tries the local user. The password
is incorrect, so the domain user is then tried. So for each correct
domain login there is a failed local login.

Within a certain amount of time a certain number of incorrect local
logins will cause the account to be disabled for a timeout period.

HTH.

Bruce.

Subject: [U2] Window User setup for Universe

I am created a general window user for telnet to Universe version
9.4.1.1I
on SBS2003 server. However after I telnet to the server and entered the
user
id and password, I encountered the error message Your account has
restrictions that prevent you from login on at this time. Please try
again
later. and then the Universe session is disconnected. If I add this
user to
be a group of administrator, then the problem is solved. Anybody over
there know that is Universe server only allowed user login with
administrator right? If yes, how can I solve the security issue?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

RE: [U2] Newest UV UniDebugger

2006-04-07 Thread Senn, Bruce
What does the timeout parameter control?

I am having some problems with Uni RPC failing to find a service and
wondering if it might be related to the timeout value.

Just to add:

If you have entries for defcs and udcs, change those as well.
Later revisions will also allow you to specify zero for no timeout.

 Hi Symeom

To increase the timeout of uniobjects, modify the unirpcservices files

Locate the unirpcservices file in the account that UniVerse
 is installed

 \ibm\unishared\unirpc

Create a backup copy of the file unirpcservices

It should look something like this.

 uvnet /usr/ibm/uv/bin/uvnetd host1,host2,host3 TCP/IP 3 3600
 uvdrsrv /usr/ibm/uv/bin/uvdrsrvd * TCP/IP 0 3600 uvcs
 /usr/ibm/uv/bin/uvapi_server * TCP/IP 0 3600 uvfilefix
 /usr/ibm/uv/bin/uvfilefix_server * TCP/IP 0 3600 uvserver
 /usr/ibm/uv/bin/uvsrvd * TCP/IP 0 3600

Being the Service, Network transport mechanisim, reserved and
 timeout in tenths of seconds.

For the service uvcs , the default is 3600 for 6 minutes,
change this for a longer time frame.

[U2] Unidata Errors

2006-03-29 Thread Senn, Bruce
We recently had Unidata generate the following errors on our production
system. Telnet sessions were dropped although some udt processes
persisted. We had to kill remaining udt processes, reboot and restart
Unidata services. We are concerned that this problem will interrupt
production again.

SMM's shared memory not reliable

GLM error = 5 : Exceed mglm limit
Lockname (11611 -2141327628) RS -- 1019904
upl lock error(5).
l:block check error in U_dyn_hash for vile 'VOC', key 'st', number=497
l:U_dyn_hash error in U_read_tupl for file 'VOC', key 'st', number=497

TIA for any insight.

We are running Unidata 6.1.9 on Windows 2003 Enterprise.

Bruce.
