Subject: [U2] uniobjects.net

Hi - I have been using uniobjects.net for many years now, however I
usually use it to call a basic subroutine on the u2 server. I now have
a little project where I need to get a number of records from a file,
ideally like the output of a list command as I have some itypes I also
need to get.

I could do this via a select list and read the ids into a unidataset and
then call other programs to get the itype data, or I could do a unixml
probably a few other ways.

So what is the best way to do this ?

Thanks

Symeon.

Hi Symeon,

This means that BDT doesn't have permission to update XTOOLSUB in
$UDTHOME/sys/SYS_BP. All of our eclipse tools will try to automatically
update XTOOLSUB to make them easier to use with earlier U2 databases.
You can try setting up a connection using a user that has sufficient
privileges or you can follow the old process using the public technote
for updating XTOOLSUB.

Engineering has also already addressed the error message to make it more
meaningful in the next release.

Regards,

Dan

Re: [U2] UniObjects 'Exec'

2010-02-19 Thread Sunny Matharoo
Hi Dave

Whenever a call is made to a UOJ subroutine, this will return an error
code as part of the object if the subroutine fails for any reason.

The developer can then interrogate this error code and take the
appropriate actions.

Subject: [U2] UniObjects 'Exec'

We are using a product and just found out that one of the reasons we're
having some difficulties on an installation was that one of my
dictionaries
was not defined at a new site. This caused a 'Exec' of a "SELECT" to
fail,
but here's the kicker -- in BASIC, we could have 'seen' the error with
CAPTURING and RETURNING -- but I'm told the interface to UniObjects does
not
return this diagnostic information on the 'Exec'...

So in BASIC, I would have

EXECUTE 'SELECT FILENAME WITH DICTITEM = "A"' CAPTURING THIS RETURNING
THAT

And I could 'query' what is in THIS and THAT to decide if there is a
problem
if the "DICTITEM" didn't exist for some reason.

I'm told that the product we're using cannot do this same thing -- there
is
no way to 'know' the message 'select criteria DICTITEM is not a field'
was
returned from the 'Exec' as we could have seen in the BASIC EXECUTE.

Is there no way to get back this same REALLY valuable feedback in
UniObjects? How do you code for this issue in UO?

This would not be big deal if we had source code or a 'log' of what was
happening -- we just had a screen that didn't come up, and with dozens
of
fields, it's not obvious what the issue was -- until we found it! But
the
failure of the 'SELECT' command causes the 4GL based on UO to just 'die'
I
don't want to be stung another time with this, and am never afraid to
ask
for thoughts or ideas!! If there is a way to handle this, I want to
find it
and get the idea into their head so I never have a 'lost day' trying to
hunt
down this kind of issue...

TIA!!

[U2] UV ODBC Oddity

2008-02-01 Thread Sunny Matharoo
Hi

We was wondering if anyone could help, we have users that have old
queries that they have run in MS Query before with no problem using IBM
ODBC query drivers.

What we are having now is when they open a query it reports an error

a date it is now passing a date and time, now obviously UV does not seem
to be able to handle this.

Any ideas would be great

[U2] MS Firewall Client - Uniobjects

2006-01-26 Thread Sunny Matharoo
Hi,

We are starting to test MS Firewall Client on our systems and we are
coming across situations where any application that has or uses the
UniObjects.dll; once initiated it works fine until it makes a connection
to the UV Database.

When we shut down the application it leaves an instantiation of it self
running which is visible in Task Manager but is not responding which
then causes further problems when you try and use the application again.

We use UV 10.1.14, AIX 5.2, all apps written in VB6.0, I hope this is
useful. We use W2k as standard on most PC's but also now introducing XP
as well

Any ideas or help would be most appreciated.

what kind of 'interface' are you looking for? UV has a connection

[U2] Failure of Uniobjects subroutine call

2005-08-10 Thread Sunny Matharoo
Hi,

I wonder if anyone has had a problem with UniObjects calling a MV
database program, on a few occasions we have come across the scenario
where the call is made to the routine, parameters passed correctly if
required, but the expectant result is not forthcoming.

Simple example we pass a date parameter to a UV program get it to
execute a select statement and build a list of ids and return that to
the calling VB program, but we get nothing back. Now running this in
UV at TCL produces the right results.

Any ideas most welcome.

RE: [U2] How to release locks (LIST.READU)

2005-06-15 Thread Sunny Matharoo
Hi,

This is two different things LIST.LOCKS shows file locks and can only be
released by the session or user that locked that file.

To see record locks use LIST.READU EVERY this shows all locks set by a
user
Active Group Locks, Active Record locks and Active Semaphore locks as
well. To release a lock you can use UniAdmin or from the UV account but
you will need 'root' permissions to unlock the user, use UNLOCK command
to release the locks.
Type at TCL if in the UV account 'UNLOCK RECORD record.id ALL' this will
release the locks held by that record, but note it will also release
other locks like the semaphore and groups locks as well.

Hope this helps

Sunny

RE: [U2] Universe objects licence

2005-03-04 Thread Sunny Matharoo
Device Licensing does work and if you have the Enterprise Edition of UV
then it works very well.

We have a VB app as well as wIntegrate including Dynamic Connect and
Viaduct that quite happliy share the 10 connection pool.

This is in UV 10.1.4 and AIX 5

Unfortunately the Universe device licensing doesn't work like that. Not
sure about Unidata but the question related to Universe.

The 10 connection pool cannot be shared between the terminal emulator
and uniobjects.

I asked (via my VAR) if IBM had any plans to allow that and apparently
they don't.

Even more annoyingly the new licensing model doesn't allow Phantoms to
use the device license pool.

If the VB6 users are also Telnet users that utilize Dynamic Connect,
wIntegrate or AccuTerm with device licensing, then you should only need
40
UniData device licenses.

[U2] [UV] Size Limit in a Dynamic Array

2005-03-03 Thread Sunny Matharoo
Hi,

I wonder if anyone would know what the size limit of data that can be
handled within a dynamic array from within UniObjects.

We came across a limit whereby a customer had just over 14000 items in
an array that was being returned from UV. The application threw an
error when it came back with the data and tried to assign it too a
variable in the application.

We use Universe 10.1.4, on AIX Ver 5.0 and using UniObjects ver 3.1

Any help much appreciated. Thanks

[U2][UV]Device Licensing

2004-10-15 Thread Sunny Matharoo
Hi,

We have a problem where by we have activated device licensing on UV
system, but device licensing does not seem to work on all our PC's
effectively.

Let me explain we use wIntegrate, Dynamic Connect, Viaduct as terminal
emulators, in the vast majority of cases these connections are happy to
share a license regardless of which emulator we use. We also have some
API's developed using UniObjects, now this is where the crux is whenever
we use these API's they take a new license rather than sharing with the
one already in use, we have been advised that UniObjects is device
license aware!!

My question is are we missing a setting somewhere or a dll that is
required, any help would be greatly appreciated.

We are using UV 10.1.4 running on AIX 5.2

Thanks

[U2] -[UV] Selecting items in files

2004-05-13 Thread Sunny Matharoo
Hi,

Is it possible to select an item in a select list, that may in the process
of being written too or in the process of being created?

Also would it cause locking issues for programs that try to access them.

Thanks,
