Re: [U2] U2 Application / Solutions providers list? "PICK / U2 Hits"? Any "ERP Light" applications out there?FabMan
Hi Scott, We offer a our FabMan fabrication and manufacturing software package that can be installed for Build-to-Stock/Build-to-Order manufacturers, Job-Shops or Machine Shops, to provide any combination of functionality. It includes the basic business modules that you listed below (Sales Orders and Sales History, Inventory Control, AP / AR Financials ) plus modules for Estimating, Shop Floor Control, Finite Scheduling, Statistical Process Control, Tools Management, Payroll and EDI. These modules can be installed in any selection and combination you wish to provide the "other basic MFG type related applications" that you're looking for. We include all the source code in every installation so it can be easily customized. FabMan runs on most generic Pick databases and on Universe and QM. I'll be glad to discuss the features of FabMan, your client's specific needs and how we match up with those needs. I look forward to hearing from you, Dave Dave Taylor Sysmark Information Systems, Inc. "PICK / U2 Hits"? Any "ERP Light" applications out there? Hello folks, A good number of years ago, there used to be a published list / document / book of various PICK / U2 "Solutions Providers" or Value Added Resellers and ISV (aka Independent Software Vendors) listing the VAR or ISV, their vertical markets served, and descriptions of the applications they provided, (I think it was called "PICK HITS" or something like that?). Is there anything similar produced/published these days? It would appear that such a document would be an excellent vehicle for the continued proliferation of the "multi-valued" market. (IBM U2 Marketing - where are you?) I too am out of work, but in discussions with a small local MFG type operation about an IT Manager opportunity. One of the main aspects they're looking for in this IT Manager position is someone to find, and implement an "ERP Light" application. It should be noted these folks have previously attempted a Epicor solution that they were "sold" that when it came time to implement, they "discovered" that this Epicor product did not do what this company needed at all. This company was "promised what they wanted it to do could be done", but then learned well AFTER shelling out big $$, (after expected delivery time of the mod's), that what they wanted was not currently possible, but could be attained with 10X the previously shelled out "big $$" and a "couple of years" of development time from the Epicor "development team". Needless to say, that implementation fell flat on its face, and now they're out looking again. Looking for something that does Sales Orders and Sales History, Inventory Control, AP / AR Financials and maybe a few other basic MFG type related applications. Surprisingly, these folks are not using any pre-existing package, but using a lot of home grown type spread sheet based improvised solutions. Ideas? Suggestions? Norman, I don't know anything about Ohmart but Google brings up an Ohmart/Vega manufacturing co. in Cincinnati. I don't think OHM Systems has any connection to it but it's possible since I've heard that it was converted from Cobol way back when. OHM was called Mandata in the 70's or 80's. The president is Suresh Anbil. They have a number of modules for a range of manufacturing companies. Scott, If you aren't aware of OHM systems, give them a look. I'm not sure I would call it "light" but that is for you to decide. http://www.ohmworld.com/ Yes, there was a "Pick hits" book, I just threw away a early 90's copy. I haven't seen anything like it for a long time. Maybe Spectrum could/should do one. I know of another package (not mine) that is available on a sort of "one of a kind" basis, contact me directly at donr_w...@yahoo.com if interested. RE: [U2] U2 Application / Solutions providers list? "PICK / U2 Hits"? Any "ERP Light" applications out there?
I have to defend Epicor products. We run Avante, an Epicor product. I have been in manufacturing for 25 years as an end user of various ERP systems. I find our Epicor product to be superior to the other systems I have used. I am not an IT person, but I have assumed responsibility for maintaining our ERP system due to the needs of a small company and aptitude. I also have time to manage our quality system. You may have an opportunity to save your prospective employer a lot of money, by looking at their current Epicor product and solving a few root problems. I am not a programmer, but with help from the people in this group and Epicor tech support I have been able to cobble together enough SB+ and Unidata knowledge to develop custom features and keep the system up 100% of the time. If an Epicor product didn't fit the bill, I don't know how an 'ERP Light' application is going to solve the problem. Check out DDI System. We are running a legacy 9.1 version of green screen software from them, but the current software they sell is nothing like our ~12-year-old customized Linux-based solution. I believe their current app is totally U2 objects or ODBC based and runs solely on Windows now. Adam Waller is the guy to talk to: www.ddisys.com.
