This works great for me, it's very promising and you directly start to
think
of when there will be a debugging functionality in the U2 Editor?

I use the UniDebugger exclusively for editing programs and it has the
debugging built in. It comes free with each licensed installation. Check
it out, it's on the utilities disk.

It drives me nuts that since we are an SB+ installation, there's not a great
way to use UniDebugger with our UniData programs -- Unless someone has a tip
to share!!

Although the UniData interactive debugger isn't bad, the UniDebugger is
nice.

RE: [U2] Free Editor

2005-12-02 Thread Mike Pflugfelder
Is there any documentation for this? Like others, I've been able to
download Eclipse, install it and the U2Editor, but I'm unable to connect
to any of my servers as of yet. So far, I've tried a Windows and a
Linux server, each running current versions of Universe, but I have yet
to see any of my files.

Thanks,

For too many years in the U2 Community, we have been laboring with a
single
line editor. Whether it was ED or the improved AE we have been pretty
much
stuck in the 70's and 80's. Others have produced a lot of full-screen
editors, but they take a telnet license for every session. We have a
solution for those who need to edit from multiple accounts, machines and
databases simultaneously in one editor environment.

U2Editor works on workstations such as Windows, Linux, Hp-UX, AIX,
Solaris,
and Mac OS X. U2Editor is built on open source development tool called
Eclipse as a plug-in. By using the Eclipse platform for the open source
community, U2Editor can be updated automatically or manually via the web
using Eclipse Update. Those using U2Editor will always have the most
up-to-date copy of the software.

U2Editor is available today for downloading at www.u2logic.com. Or send

RE: [U2] Free Editor

2005-12-02 Thread Walter
I have Unidata 7.1 on Windows XP and I had the same server conncetion
problems until I setup the server as follows:

Name: any name (I tied the server name to the windows account I was
logged into)
Host: 'localhost' (without the quotes)
User: Name of the windows account you are logged into
Password: Password of the windows account you are logged into
Verify Password: Same as password above

Once I got the server setup with localhost and windows account and
password I reserved an account using the Demo example and I'm able to
access the directory and hashed files in the Unidata Demo account.
Just a thought since I haven't tried it myself. You may have to setup a
server for each windows account that you would want to use U2Editor from
since the server setup seems to be windows account specific. You would
also need to reserve the account(s) under each server that you want to
access.

RE: [U2] Free Editor

2005-12-01 Thread Bob Woodward
I just downloaded the Eclipse software and the U2Editor plug-in.
Everything went pretty fair during the installation with a few variances
from the installation instructions and the actual options presented.
I'm having a problem, though, getting to the Universe programs. The
problem seems to be at the point of registering an account. The notes
say that the path is not required for Universe but when I try to
navigate to the account, I get no listing of directories or hashed
files. I can't find a way to change the account registration so I have
to delete the whole server registration and start over to try something
else. If I DO put in a path, I get directories and files listed but I
also get an error message The account name supplied is not a valid
account Failed to establish connection to MYSERVER.NAME

There are a number of other issues that lead me to believe this is not a
ready for release version. It shows a LOT of promise, though. It may
just be that the mirror site I used isn't up to the latest release, yet.
The ABOUT screen says version 3.1.1, build M20050929-0840.

I, too, had some problems getting the Eclipse U2Editor plug-in to open
using the Linux version. When I try to open the U2Editor perspective,
I get a Problems opening perspective 'U2Plugin.perspective' error.
The installation seemed to go well and completed successfully without
any errors. Any ideas?

I do agree though that this tool has lots of potential as a
replacement to ED or AE. :)

Thanks,
Andy
