Re: Universe Migration Info

2004-03-18 Thread rlsmith
I also would like to ask the list a additional question.

We are thinking about upgrading from Universe 9.5.2.1 to a version 10.?
(something)

Does anyone know if there any issues we might have with our basic code if
we do?

BTW which version of 10 is the most stable?

Any info could be useful.

Thanks,

Universe Migration Info

2004-03-17 Thread rlsmith
Hello all,

We are migrating from an IBM machine (F50) with an OS of AIX 4.3.3 and
Universe 9.5(source machine) and to an IBM p610 (target machine).

We have been told that to restore the install_image (mksysb) from the old
machine to the new machine we need to boot to the installation CD on the
target machine and install drivers. After the drivers are installed , we
can then restore using the mksysb tape.

After the system restore completes , do we need to do anything to Universe
because of the platform change ? For example , do we need to regenerate
the Universe shell ? Do we need to re-license the product ?

Any information or gotcha's about this would be helpful.

Thanks,

Re: u2 maintenance agreements

2004-03-03 Thread rlsmith
I must admit we too have the exact same problem with IBM.

After some long drawn out dealings we finally got it all resolved with no
penalties.

We are currently looking into a new system and I'm sure this mess has left
a bad taste in some of the mouths here.

It might affect the type of system we get. Maybe nothing with an IBM/MV
database.

I'll get retrained, I hope, but it's really not fair.

A number in management here think the MV is an old PICK system and don't
have a clue as to what it can really do.

This just adds more fuel to there anti-MV fire.

I bet we'll get stuck with an all SQL system. Changing file structures on
it sure wont be as easy.

That's my 2 cents
