2018-03-26 Thread Adair Winter
We noticed the Jirous 2' antenna is not that good and will be further off
than the UBNT dishes.

the Jirous 3' and 4' dishes seem to be much better.

Re: [Ubnt_users] AF11 10x

2018-03-26 Thread Adair Winter
It's actually not excessive.
If you read the manual it says the duplexer is = to 1db loss and you're
going to have at least that in the jumpers as well.
I however always set the cable loss to zero and do the math for my max EIRP
or 18dbm. It's just easier when looking at it to know that there isn't 2
being subtracted somewhere.
Even with the losses, we usually are within 1-2db of target and sometimes
beat it.

Turn all that off and set the conducted power to where the main gui says
18dbm. See if it still goes to 10x or not.

See how far if any you are off from the target signal.

We have about 40 af5x links and all of them perform as they should. You
have two small of antennas for a shot that long. Need at least 3' antennas
and good fresnel clearance. With proper alignment and tuning, they will
kick just about any backhauls ass.

Re: [Ubnt_users] client isolation

2017-08-02 Thread Adair Winter
right. and 99.999% of internet users don't need to connect directly do each
other. It's just not that big of a deal. Plus, I don't ever want customers
to be able to pass traffic between each other at a point that I can't
capture it. (read: CALEA).
In our network, we have 11 public subnets (a combination of /24's and
/22's), customers obtain a public IP from their assigned subnet and all
traffic is forced to the core and out to the world.

In the rare event that has needed to happen. We just but the customers in
different public subnets. so yes, they have to go to the core and back, it
works. but it's mostly a non-issue.

Any amount of rain will take it down at that distance. Have a back link or
be ok with it being down. Here in the Texas Panhandle we have some 1.5 -
2.7 mile links that fade completely out in anything other than a light
rain.

If B11 is so revolutionary, tell me why on one site I could license a
AF11x, and two SIAE 80mhz links (one XPIC) but B11 would only be allowed
40Mhz.

Af24 will do 90% of whatever the capacity graph shows. So if it's not
moving that much you have some issue generating that much traffic or
ethernet issues.

It's both current and late models.
Maybe slightly worse with newer ones.
But we have some that are a year or so old doing it and brand new ones
doing it.
Ubnt has acknowledged the issue and is trying to track it down.

If I ever start an air view and the jnlp failed to download you can simply
append /airview.jnlp to the end of the url to download and run.

better 48vh (ports 1-4).
I did have some on short cable runs at 24v but they have all been changed.

This unit has already been RMA'd and ethernet run replaced, yes it's a
ESD cable. There's about 8 other devices on this tower that don't have
 this problem.

Has anyone seen anything like this before? or know a way to help with
 the static build up problems?

customers on this AP that are connected and online but the radio just will
not respond via the web interface. One of them will respond via SSH but the
other won't. I tried the reboot command on the one that did respond but any
command I try to run just stalls the session. I call the two customers and
of course neither is around to power cycle the units. Is there a known

I keep seeing people say this. but it doesn't make sense to me. it's on
+6dB more Tx power than DFS when using PTMP. PtP is 56dBm? makes more sense
to me to put PtP's there.

Here is an 8' dish
http://www.radiowaves.com/en/product/hp8-5-2

Bet it costs more $3-4k? and at 40dB gain, you'd have to run -10 tx on the
radio..
or use two antennas. one for TX and one for RX.

Re: [Ubnt_users] Rocket ACs

2014-12-09 Thread Adair Winter
So I bought some early rocket AC's to test with and never got them deployed
due to the lack of airview. now I'm reading that my rockets might not
support it at all due to a hardware change? or was it just software??...
How can I verify this for sure? is there a particular series or something?
Or do I just need to fire them up and see?

The e-mail didn't really make it clear that there were new things, just
the same platform hype we had 14 months ago. I didn't read it all, just
skimmed it because it didn't look any different.

Ohhh, so the PtMP works now with the new software?

radio and set the DMZ IP to whatever their router pulled from our radio.
This setup works perfectly and we never have any problems with any
services and generally only need to have people set their router in the DMZ
 IF they need port forwarding.
With this setup the WAN port of the radio (WAN.1201 in the image) is not
pingable and can not be managed from the internet.
The only way we can manage CPE's is from the internal network. IF you
want to access from the internet you'd have to uncheck the Block
Management Access alternatively you may also need to uncheck the DMZ
management ports. I can't remember. I do NOT want my CPE's to be accessed
from the outside world in anyway shape or form. With our setup IF they need
access to something inside this allows that to happen without having to
bridge the radio. SIP, VPN, Games all work fine.

True. Perhaps what I need to do on the CPE is set the DHCP range for 1
IP addy and put that addy in the DMZ? Then the radio wouldn't
 inadvertently
 block anything.

You couldn't set port forwards ahead of time without knowing what
they want and where they want it. That's what uPNP is for.

That helps a lot! I have my customers in router mode with NAT enabled
without opening any ports. I really dont get any complaints but I'm
 trying
to be sure I am not causing any undo issues for my customers, so, should
 I
open any ports or is default sufficient?

I think there is some confusion.

In router mode with NAT enabled and DMZ disabled the only thing it
will pass to the customer is stuff that is set in the port forwarding
 section. (iptables -t nat -L)

In router mode with NAT enabled and DMZ enabled it will pass
everything to the DMZ IP except management ports (unless DMZ management
ports is checked) (iptables -t nat -L will show all ports not passed
 to
the router). If DMZ management ports is checked then everything is
 sent to
 the DMZ IP

Tone down the hysteria guys. The FCC certifies manufacturers in batch.
When Ubiquiti had to pull a radio from the FCC for an issue, all their
radios went to the back of the line. That included the Powerbeam.
That's the delay. But yes, the PowerBridge not getting certified
totally sucked. I've got a bunch of them.

No, he said they have a history of not certifying everything and thus
a risk of such a situation. The PowerBridge M5 for example.
