Re: [Ubnt_users] UBNET 900Mhz

2018-05-26 Thread Jay Weekley
It's old gear that in a frequency that is prone to interference and
Ubiquiti seems to have abandoned any new developments in this area. I've
seen 17 meg with this gear though others may have seen more. You won't
know if it will work until you try it though if interference crops up
and you can't find a clean channel then you can say goodby to your
customers. In this case you should look into one of Ubiquiti's
competitors.

[Ubnt_users] Rocket M2 ethernet link problem.

2017-11-06 Thread Jay Weekley
We lost a Ubiquiti Rocket M2 during a storm. We replaced it with a "new"
out of box M2 but it won't link with the 10/100/1000 switch. When the
techs bypass the switch they get a 10 megabit link but not 100 megabit
and can access the radio on their laptop but moving the radio back to
the switch and nothing. For trouble shooting they tried the following
but nothing gave them a link to the switch:
- swapping the switch with another 10/100/1000 unit.
- swapping patch cords
- replacing the power supply.
- forcing the radio to 10 megabit full.
- resetting and reprogramming the radio.
- re-terminating the lower end of the cable run.
Is this a cable issue? It's a 2 month old Shireen Cat 6 run so I hate to
think it's bad already. The weather isn't going to make another tower
climb likely for the next few days so we need to get it to link with the
switch for a little while. Any suggestions on how to do that? Find an
old 10/100 switch?

[Ubnt_users] Odd Nanobridge problem

2017-03-02 Thread Jay Weekley
We have a 5.7 Nanobridge acting as an AP that serves two tower sites
that are close together. After a storm yesterday we started getting a
lot of packet loss when pinging the AP. We can disconnect either of
the SMs and the remaining tower works fine and there is no packet loss
to the AP but when we turn both sites back on the packet loss returns.
There is also a Netonix switch at the tower that has the 5.7 Nanobridge
acting as the AP and it's cable diagnostics tool shows a problem on pins
5, 6, 7 and 8 though the AP is powered up. Both these sites are slated
for upgrades to Ubiquiti AC gear but the logistics will make it
difficult this week.

Re: [Ubnt_users] UBNT Frills over function? (warning

2017-02-22 Thread Jay Weekley
True James. Ubiquiti has been releasing much more user friendly
products. It's not really in indictment of any one manufacturer or
their entire product line.

Re: [Ubnt_users] UBNT Frills over function? (warning

2017-02-22 Thread Jay Weekley
I wonder how much time developers and designers spend actually
installing and servicing their own equipment. It's not a problem with
any one manufacturer. Did anyone with Cambium try using the original
epmp firmware versions on a device likely to be used in the field by
their consumers? Did anyone with Ubiquiti actually try replacing a
feed horn on a Nanobridge prior to product release?

It just hasn't been a problem for us. Maybe symmetrical distribution of
wind load or some other factor. Of course, all of our poles will twist
