Re: Filling out forms

2007-02-28 Thread Rick Berger
Thanks Freddy, but I'm not interested in capturing the data and editing
it like you could using OCR. I can see the form and just want to fill
in the blanks and print them. Most image/graphics editors let
you place a cursor anywhere on image where you can start typing in
text. This text just lays on top of what is already there, so you have
to choose the right font size. So I just want to get the bit map image
of a rendered PDF file, use an image editor on it, and then print it.

I know there is a tool for KDE called Kooka. I'm not sure about GNOME
though. You are looking for ORC tools,

Synaptic can help you track some down. Let me know if this helps,

My writing sucks to the point where I don't fill out paper forms and
unfortunately lots of government forms are only available for
 downloading and printing.

I want grab the image of a form going the printer, edit it with image
editor and then re-submit it to the printer. How can I do this?

pdftoppm and pdftohtml are command line tools that might be able to do
the conversion for you. The former says it can convert to ppm, which
can presumably be edited in something like photoshop.

2007-02-28 Thread MICHAEL WEAVER
As someone who is totally Blind and as I presume it is difficult or
impossible to get speech to read notifications as regards updating
Ubuntu, how often should I run the apt commands to update and upgrade my
laptop which is running Edgy until Feisty is released?
Do you always do a sudo apt-get update followed by an apt-get dist
upgrade even if you may be still on the same version of Ubuntu?

Re: Team Meeting -- topic BUGS

2007-02-28 Thread Al Puzzuoli
Hi Henrik and everyone,

Unfortunately, I was unable to make the meeting today, but I wonder whether
there was any discussion on the topic of the install procedure on the Live
CD?

Yes, I probably sound like a broken record by now, and I'm sorry to keep
harping on this single point, but it it would really make a huge difference
both in terms of practical usability, and in terms of first impressions for
new users if the installer could be accessible without requiring those
esoteric settings in .orbitrc. I know that the implementation of the
orbitrc is really a Gnome issue, but I wonder if a workaround could be
devised, at least for ubiquity until the larger issue is resolved once and
for all?

Thanks for any thoughts,

Re: Team Meeting -- topic BUGS

2007-02-28 Thread krishnakant Mane
hello all,
I have been a passive listener on the accessibility issue so far.
I am in the process of setting up the second foss based computer
center for the visually handicap people here in India.
In one of the states called karala, it has become the government
policy to use foss based systems thus gnu/linux has become mandatory
in every institution.
well as of now we have had much trouble using orca and time and again
need to switch back to emacspeak.
while emacs and thus emacspeak is a great desktop at the command line
it does have steep learning curve and if one has to take complete
advantage of all the features in emacspeak they have to take lot of
learning trouble which consumes lot of time.
and then it is not a good thing to force every one to work on the
command line every now and then.
any ways coming to the point, I am wondering whether open office
related issues have been fixt for the up coming version of orca and
ubuntu?
the main problems were responsiveness and font/ attribute identification.
I had herd from a few people that firefox with firevox plugin worked
well with orca but that never happened in my case.
one of my colligue did use it but after some days when he updated orca
and other little things in ubuntu it stopped working.
so what will be the accessibility status of firefox with ubuntu 7.04?
I really want to contribute my services to the visually challenged
people for accessibility in foss because our government is ready to
provide computers to blind students with 90% discount and the only
condition is that they will require to use foss based solutions.
I have been given the responsibility to see to it that things are
working fine in all institutes in my state and that's the reason I am
bothering all of you with my questions.
thanks and regards.
Krishnakant.
