Accessibility technical discussion at UDS P.

2011-10-18 Thread Luke Yelavich
Hi folks,
A blueprint has been created to discuss the technical accessibility work for
Precise. Go here to subscribe and for more info.
https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/desktop-p-accessibility-polish

I've already started populating the work items list, and this list is likely to
be changed, and re-structured between now and when development starts after
UDS. If you ahve anything you want discussed in the session, please add it to
the notes section at the bottom of the whiteboard. THis session probably hasn't
been scheduled yet, but whe it is, I will let you all know when and where, so
that people can participate remotely.

Updates of at-spi2, mousetweaks, and Orca in oneiric-proposed, please help with testing.

2011-10-18 Thread Luke Yelavich
Hey folks,
So there are some more accessibility packages in oneiric-proposed that need
testing. The bugs are as follows:
877817 - gnome-orca
877824 - mousetweaks
877840 - at-spi2-atk
877836 - at-spi2-core
877841 - pyatspi

Similar to the instructions in the email about onboard the other day, please
enable the oneiric-proposed repository, update the above packages, and test.
These are GNOME stable updates, so we are not testing for any specific issues
as such, but we want to make sure there are no regressions or other weird
breakage, particularly with at-spi and Orca. The instructions can be found
here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed

When testing at-spi, please post results in all 3 at-spi related bugs, as it
would be preferable if all 3 packages went through into updates at once.

Thanks for your time.

Oneirc queston

2011-10-18 Thread Tom Masterson
I upgraded my laptop using do-releas-upgrade (which is how I normally do
this) and found unity totally inaccessible probably because it was in 3d.
So I installed gnome which works but I would like to try unity and I have
more computers to upgrade. So the question is how do I get it to start in
unity 2d doing an upgrade ot a fresh install? Also is it possible without
sighted help. My wife had to help me switch to gnome.

As a side note orca does not start automatically in gnome as I have read
it does not in unity either. Is there a solution for this (I have not
read the entire archive)?

Thanks
Tom

Some Unity related questions

2011-10-18 Thread Hammer Attila

Hy Everybody,

Sorry, I will be have possible beginner questions for Unity related:
In Unity 3D extended A11Y test version have a possibility to define
application related groups, similar with GNOME2 and GNOME3 Fallback
session already categorizing the awailable applications (accessories,
accessibility, sound and video, internet, office, etc)?
Sorry this question, but I better known the traditional GNOME desktop
environment now, but I would like learning Unity usage detailed and
customizing basic Unity knowledge with some extras my needs.
I very like this categorized grouping in GNOME Desktop Environment,
because if I installing any application and if the application related
package creating a menu, the menu item is automaticaly awailable with
the proper application related group in GNOME main menu.

Already existing a lense with doing similar possibility in Unity
automaticaly? Have a request from sighted users this traditional
grouping related in Unity?
Now, I put my favorite applications with the launcher with I often
using, this is a very good possibility if need very fast launching an
often using application, but the putted applications are all in one
place without grouping.

The quicklist creation is an another good possibility in Unity, I will
be trying this possibility to create for example a text editors related
quick list, with containing for example Gedit, Libreoffice Writer and
Libreoffice Calc launching.
Unfortunately, this quicklist will be not updating automaticaly if a new
text editor related application are installed.
Possible implementing a similar application grouping possibility in
Unity with precise development if more users would like this
possibility, and associate this grouping presenting menu with a
keybinding? The purpose, if the user installing any application and the
application have a desktop file in /usr/share/applications directory,
automaticaly presenting the new application with the proper category.

An another question:
If an user installing any application related package, but doesn't known
the application launch command, how can possible found and launch the
new installed application in Unity?

The user need searching the application the dash categoryes?
I not see yet full clear the new interface working method.

FWIW, Unity3D is a compiz plugin.
