Re: Orca Master
Thank you very much for that, José. I rally appreciate you taking the time to post this. Now, do I need to uninstall the version of Orca which came with Ubuntu 11.10 (version 3.2.1) or can I run either of the both of them? Also, do I need to get and compile the latest at-spi2 components (i.e. pyatspi2, at-spi2-core, etc) or will the current versions suffice? Once I get everything together, I will try and write up a tutorial for others who are interested in doing this if it would be helpful to others (I personally know of a few people who would love to know how to do this). Thanks again. Your information is much appreciated. On 01/25/2012 12:31 AM, José Vilmar Estácio de Souza wrote: Hi Robert Here are the steps that I took to compile orca on ubuntu 11.10. Hope that helps. sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get build-dep gnome-orca sudo apt-get install gnome-common The next commands are necessary to update the version of python-gobject. Orca needs version 3.0.2 or above and ubuntu 11.10 comes with version 3.0.0. sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3 sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade git clone git://git.gnome.org/orca orca cd orca ./configure ./autogen.sh make sudo make install orca will be installed in /usr/local On 01/25/2012 01:40 AM, Robert cole wrote: Hello, everyone. I am running Ubuntu 11.10 along with Orca version 3.2.1. I see that a lot of Ubuntu 11.10 users are happily using Orca Master (which I believe is version 3.3.5pre). About a month or more ago I asked on the Orca list how to get and build Orca Master from the GNOME Git repository. At that time, however, I was running Linux Mint 12. Someone pointed me to the Orca Wiki's Download/Install page [1]. I followed the instructions there, and I completely broke my Linux Mint 12 system. I know that the Wiki is going through an update process, and I (now) know that the instructions for obtaining Orca Master located there are out-of-date, as I believe they are in reference to Orca pre-GNOME 3. Is there an updated guide somewhere for getting and building the latest Orca Master branch? It does not seem like it would be that difficult (as the instructions on the Wiki page were explained quite well). I really want to try and build Orca Master again, but the right way. If there is an updated guide, where would I find it? Thanks for any help which you are able to provide. Take care. help with the live cd
Hello everyone, I downloaded utunto 11 last week and have been trying to get orca to talk so that I can install it, how ever, I can't get it to work . In ubuntu 8.4 I could boot to the cd, press enter to select english, press downarrow once to tell the installer that I want to install, hit f5, key in 3 to load speech, and press enter twice and orca would come up talking, how ever that doesn't seem to work in the current billed so I was wondering if there is something I'm doing wrong? Also, in an earlier version I was able to get my pac mate braille display to work but I don't know how to get that to work either. I've been searching on the net using google trying to find some decent instructions on how to successfully boot to the live cd for ubuntu11, infact, I spent all day doing pretty much that and finally came acrossed this list. I'm gonna have some more questions later, however, right now I need to get the basic problem out of the way. Thanks for any help anybody can give me. Re: help with the live cd
Hi, Simply boot the CD, wait for the disc activity to stop (will take a few minutes) then press control + s to start Orca. The Orca main window will have focus. Alt+tab once and you will be on a screen that allows you to either run the live session or begin an install. Re: help with the live cd
Assuming you're talking about Ubuntu 11.10, you can just press control+s to start Orca after you hear the drums. You may also want to check out the accessibility notes that came out when Oneric was released at: http://ubuntuaccessibility.wordpress.com/2011/10/13/oneiric-ocelot/ to On 25/01/12 06:49, gene richburg wrote: Hello everyone, I downloaded utunto 11 last week and have been trying to get orca to talk so that I can install it, how ever, I can't get it to work . Re: HUD in 12.04?
Hello, Bruno. I actually installed the x86 version as a VirtualBox guest, but the HUD will not work for me at all. I added the PPA repository and ran a dist-upgrade. Will it work in both Unity2D and Unity3D? Thai is the only thing I can think of, as even though I have 3D Acceleration enabled for the virtual machine, with a Video Memory size of 186 MB, Unity3D will not come up at all. There is also no cog icon to choose which desktop environment to log into on the login screen. When I press ALT to try to invoke the HUD, nothing happens other than the normal global menu behavior in which a certain letter of a menu (e.g. [F]ile, [E]dit, [V]iew ,etc) is underscored. Am I doing something wrong? On 01/25/2012 02:50 PM, Bruno Girin wrote: On 24/01/12 23:28, Robert cole wrote: Thanks for the link, Bruno. I am downloading a daily build of the Precise live CD right now. Should I use the daily build or should I get something else? I don't have a physical machine dedicated to testing, so do you think that things would work just as well in a VirtualBox Guest? At this time that is my only option, so I hope that I can help with testing. I had issues running the x86_64 ISO in a VirtualBox guest due to a bug [1] but as it now says fix committed, there's a chance it'll be fixed if you use the daily live CD. If you're running the x86 ISO, you should be fine (unless you hit another bug). But anyway, even if your testing consists in working out you can't run it in VirtualBox, it's still valuable feeback! Thanks, Luke. I'll try and see if I can find out why Unity3D is not coming up for me in VirtualBox.
