New skype 4.1.0.20 version experiences with Ubuntu 12.04

2012-11-22 Thread Hammer Attila

Hy,

This day my Ubuntu 12.04 system upgraded with Skype from 4.0.8 version
to 4.1.0.20 version, but the proposed repository awailable my system.
When the upgrade is happened, the old installed skype package are
removed my system, and a new skype-bin package are installed.
Ubuntu partner repository now following version awailable, but only
possible the proposed repository: 4.1.0.20-0ubuntu0.11.10.1

Changelog says following, this is a very fast upgrade:
"skype (4.1.0.20-0ubuntu0.11.10.1) oneiric; urgency=low

  * New upstream release, bumping skype-bin replaces/breaks.  LP: #1079348.
  * Add build-dependency on libqtwebkit-dev.
  * Mark library build-dependencies as i386-only.

 -- Steve Langasek Wed, 21 Nov 2012"

Hopefuly only my system I have following experience:
1. Login screen is total inaccessible my machine. I hear only Orca
screen reader with a "filler ctrl+Q" message. When I moving between
dialogue widgets with TAB and SHIFT+TAB key combinations, actual vidgets
are Orca not spokening. I only possible to log in the new version if I
using following command into terminal:

echo "skype_username skype_password" |skype --pipelogin
The prewious version the login dialog are wonderful accessible, but now,
only screen reader use graphical way impossible to log in.
Hopefuly other people not have same experiences, but if want keeping the
4.0.8 version, please hold the skype package before upgrade and careful!

Have an official report possibility to report this problem? Oldest time
I reported some issues with Skype bug tracker, but nothing happened.

Very need to land this version into Precise?

Re: pidgin-skype and Orca

2012-09-29 Thread Milton
How do I enable keyboard shortcuts? I could not find such an adjustment in
Skype and Pidging.
Right now I manage to see my contacts in Pidgin and I can make calls. But when
I receive a call I cannot accept the call even by pressing enter on the accept
button. My sighted assistant can click with the mouse on it and that works.
Even with the flat review of Orca I cannot activate the accept button. What
should I do to accept incoming calls?

either skype or the skype dbus option have always worked here. Sadly At least
in older Ubuntu releases you can't accept calls with the pidgin plugin anymore
either.
As long as you've given permission to use pidgin in skype you should have no
trouble, and honestly I don't even think I had to do this.
Other's have said that they can accept calls directly with Skype in precise I
believe. Get sighted help and make sure thhat keyboard shortcuts are enabled,
and that pidgin is allowed access.

I use the Skype plugin with Pidgin, and I'm unable to accept an incoming

Therefore, if there is a way to do this, I'd like to know as well.

Hi,
it is possible. Just find the contact which is calling to you (if you
know him) in your contact list and you should be able to accept a call
through context menu. I don't know if this works on Linux but there is
menu called (call( or something like that and there should be option to
accept current incoming call.

In Skype 4.0 for Linux native how can possible accepting incoming calls?

2012-08-13 Thread Hammer Attila

Hy,

In Precise partner repository Skype upgraded with 4.0.0.8-0oneiric1 version.
This version native with qt-atspi how can possible accepting keyboard
with incoming calls? Have any useful shortcut for Skype 4.0 with
accepting incoming call?

If I remember right oldest releases in the options dialog/notifications
page have a check box with possible toggling on/off the popup
notification window presenting. If I remember right if the prewious
versions the incoming call part the display popup notification
possibility is unchecked, Skype present a window with possible accepting
the call.
Now, default the display popup notification in incoming calls part is
checked and I think grayed, so unable to change the check box state to I
want seeing incoming call related window with normal dialog.
The 2.2.35 version prewious I wonderful to possible accept incoming
calls with Orca and qt-at-spi.
With 4.0 version I hear only incoming call ringing sound and without
sighted assistance I unable to accept the incoming call.

2012-02-08 Thread Hammer Attila

Hy,

I tryed now In Precise the Skype application with the latest officialy
awailable QT Accessibility Bridge.
Some experienced issues, with I don't no possible fixing with QT
Accessibility Bridge side:
1. If I activate the main menu button, Orca doesn't see awailable menu
items. Equals issue happened if I using context menu key my keyboard the
contact table.
2. If I browsing the contacts tree table, I not hear actual selected
items. Because I not known Skype default shows the offline contacts or
not, I not possible verifying this issue with offline contacts. Anybody
possible trying and verifying this issue?
3. With edit boxes (for example login related combo box entry and
password entry) Orca doesn't spokening the deleted characters, and the
password field Orca spokening the typed character, not for example
asterisk simbol.

Possible resolving this issues before final Precise release?

Re: Skype 2.2.35-0Oneiric2 version always crash my system

2011-10-02 Thread frederik.gladhorn
Hi,
the crash you report is caused by the Qt accessibility bridge.

Qt 4.7 will have issues with accessibility since it was too late to change some
things there, so expect better results with Qt 4.8. What surprises me though is
that you get an assert. I did not expect that the packaged bridge would have
the asserts active. It may be worthwhile to replace the asserts by warnings
since this shows a defect in the way skype or some widget exposes the
accessibility information, but we can't hope to get that fixed in skype any
time soon I guess.

Cheers
Frederik

Skype 2.2.35-0Oneiric2 version always crash my system

2011-09-30 Thread Hammer Attila

Hy,

I installed now with Skype my Oneiric fresh installed system from
Canonical partner repository, the version number is 2.2.35-0Oneiric2.
I don't no why, but always when I try log in, Skype is crash after I
activate the Sign In button, and a core dumped.

I only see following message in GNOME Terminal:
hammera@hammera-Satellite-L300:~$ skype

(skype:2608): Gtk-WARNING **: Unable to locate theme engine in
module_path: "pixmap",

(skype:2608): Gtk-WARNING **: Unable to locate theme engine in

(skype:2608): Gtk-WARNING **: Unable to locate theme engine in
module_path: "pixmap",

(skype:2608): Gtk-WARNING **: Unable to locate theme engine in
module_path: "pixmap",
Fatal: ASSERT: "interface->childCount() == children.count()" in file
adaptor.cpp, line 200

Aborted (core dumped)
hammera@hammera-Satellite-L300:~$
I try reported the crash, but unfortunately Apport says Skype is not a
genuine Ubuntu package.

I tryed purge this version and install the Natty partner repository
awailable version, but I am not good luck now, the two versions
producing equals problem my system. When I tested I think two weeks ago
with Skype a11y support, Natty version is working fine my Oneiric
system, perhaps oldest time not yet awailable this version with
Canonical partner repository in Natty branch.

This problem is a QT A11Y bridge related problem?
Anybody confirming this issue for official partner repository awailable
package version?
I try downloading with Skype the official website and looking the
officialy awailable version how works.

Hi Attila,

thanks for your report, this is really encouraging me to keep working on the
bridge.

The problem with lists that you report should hopefully be fixed in the next Qt
version (4.8.0) where the handling of lists and tables is rewritten. I still
expect some troubles with trees.

I experience very positive results with new QT Accessibility Bridge related with Skype

2011-09-23 Thread Hammer Attila

Hy,

I sending this letter both this list and Orca list.
I looked how works new QT accessibility bridge for example with Skype,
and I experienced very positive results and good progress, thank you
everybody hard work with working QT accessibility. I using Orca Screen
reader, and don't have sighted assistance when I tested Skype with the
new QT accessibility bridge, so if I determining wrong a Skype dialog
control or test result, excuse me everybody.

First, I installed with Canonical Oneiric partner repository awailable
Skype package (2.2.0-35-0-Oneiric1) my Oneiric testing system.
Because this version unfortunately now crashed when I try log in, I
installed the Natty partner repository awailable Skype package version.
Unfortunately, when I try reporting the Oneiric version produced crash
(core is created), Apport says this package is not original package.

Look what happened if I start the Natty awailable Skype version.
First, presenting the login screen, with I see a combo box, an edit box,
a checkbox, an unlabelled button and a sign in button, Orca wonderful
read every control label with login dialog. The combobox control real
possible writing my Skype username, Backspace delete echoing now yet not
working, but this is now not matter.
After I logged in succesfuly, I see my contacts I think with a table
when I tabbed the contacts area. Orca default table reading preference
(row reading) doesn't spokening right yet the actual highligted contact
name, so I turn table reading with actual cell. After this, Orca
wonderful spokening highlighted contact and presenting braille the
highlighted contacts related informations.
Every selected contact related task possible choose if I activating
context menue with general method.

I experienced a very interesting problem when I try make a call with a
selected contact:
First, I verify Orca where am I command what the selected contact with I
would like call. Because Orca tells me the contact is correct, I choosed
the context menue with start call menu item. I don't no why, but Skype I
think want call an other contact, or Orca spokening different contact
name with Skype want calling, I am not full sure this result without
sighted assistance. I using only Up or Down arrow keys when selected a
want calling contact.
Temporary workaround I possible call wanted contact if I press my
contact name beginning letter, and after this I choosed the start cal
menu item with the context menue.

If anybody want customizing Skype related preferences, this is possible
if tabbing the Main Menu button, and activating the SPACE key. In Skype
the general F10 main menu opening key command doesn't working. In main
menu need choosing Options menu item.
In options dialog the preference sections possible accessible if anybody
using UP or DOWN arrow keys. Have some combo boxes the options dialog
with Orca not possible provide accessibility informations yet.
I possible full customize my important Skype settings, possible doing a
test call to verify my microphone to work, etc.
Now, entire Skype window Orca flat review commands doesn't provide
informations, possible this problem is will be not happening with other
QT toolkit based applications.

If anybody want customizing with Orca related preferences for Skype with
Orca application-settings preference dialog, this is possible, but Orca
will create a None.py file in the .local/share/orca/app-settings
directory. This is happening I think because Skype doesn't provide
appname related information for Orca. .

So, my experiences is very positive. I newer see for Skype for Linux UI
interface, and very wayt this time when possible using Skype only with
Orca without extra plugins for example with Pidgin. If this type
problems possible fixing with next LTS release, we don't need for
example with Skype4pidgin plugin to access Skype contacts and making
Skype calls.

I would like thank you all developers hard work with contributing this
new accessible bridge development.

Hopefuly my test results help the developers work with future,

Attila

Re: [ubuntu-us-ma] Trouble with Pidgin-skype plugin in Natty

2011-05-19 Thread Daniel Hollocher
Hey guys,
I poked around this just a little. I noticed an upstream bug report with
the suggestion to try out the latest version, so...

Try the updated package from here!:
http://packages.debian.org/wheezy/pidgin-skype

As far as I can tell that is safe to try.

Good luck,
Dan

Re: Trouble with Pidgin-skype plugin in Natty

2011-05-17 Thread Guy Schlosser
I can confirm part of Dave's problem with the pidgin-skype plugin in
Natty. I have no problems with audio calls, but when I try and text
chat with someone on skype, I can see the messages I send out, but no
incoming messages are displayed. Is there a work around for seeing the
messages people send you? Any help would definitely be appreciated.

Thanks,

Guy

Ekiga seems to be really good and comes with Ubuntu. Just register a
free account at ekiga.net and you're good to go. You'll find Ekiga in
the GNOME menu under Internet/Ekiga Softphone.

Best,
Kyle

is there a good alternitive to skype

2009-08-13 Thread Mike

Hi, I know about the issues with skype, so I was wondering if there
is any free alternative for ubuntu that works well with orca.
I know there are a few that you can pay to use, but I am going to
set a computer up for someone in another country. So I was looking for
something like skype that could be used.
Thanks Mike.

Sortof, yes:

http://vmiklos.hu/project/bitlbee-skype/

It is somewhat commplicated to setup and you will need some sighted
help to get started. The chat part of skype should work pretty well
wiht this. The docs mention some support for managing calls as well,
but I have not yet had a chance to test it myself.

Best regards, Lukas

Unfortunately, skype is not at all accessible in Linux. This is likely to
change in the future however, but there is no timeframe as to when this will
happen.
