dpkg problem using apt
Hi All, I'm running Ubuntu 18 in a VmWare session on this computer, and I tried to install a package that I read from it's web page that it will install into Ubuntu with apt sudo apt install gnuradio -y And I get an error that reads like: unable to acquire the dpkg front end lockIs another process using it? I wonder if this version of Ubuntu no longer has it, in it's repository? It comes from GNUradio.org It is a bunch of SDR software and drivers. Thanks for any thoughts. Re: using apt
Hi. You might want to consider subscribing to some mailing lists. Since you are running Edgy, edgy-changes would be a good start. That way, you will know when packages in Edgy are updated. You might also consider ubuntu-announce and ubuntu-security-announce. I normally run apt-get update and then apt-get -u dist-upgrade, although, apt-get upgrade is probably enough. Dist-upgrade can remove and install new packages, while upgrade will only upgrade existing packages. The -u in the dist-upgrade command tells apt-get to wait for me to agree to what it is going to do before doing it. using apt
As someone who is totally Blind and as I presume it is difficult or impossible to get speech to read notifications as regards updating Ubuntu, how often should I run the apt commands to update and upgrade my laptop which is running Edgy until Feisty is released? Do you always do a sudo apt-get update followed by an apt-get dist upgrade even if you may be still on the same version of Ubuntu? -- Ubuntu-accessibility mailing list Ubuntu-accessibility@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-accessibility
I get this arror when using apt-get
Hi when updating apt-get I get a wpg error. At least I think that is what orca is saying. Yet it seems to update because I was able to get the packages I asked for. I never could edit the sources.list file. So I had a sight person enable in the package manager. I assume apt-get uses the same packages. Mike. X-Antivirus: avast!
