Bug description:
  I have an idea which maybe considered to be implemented.
  What if we use the space bar for moving the text cursor horizontally or even
vertically.
  Currently, moving the cursor is quite hard and inaccurate.
  Space bar is quite big and makes it a good place to swipe to move the cursor.
  With this approach, we're not using more space and instead use a big part of
the keyboard that is only there mostly for inserting spaces. The sensitivity is
critical though because you don't want unintended movement of the cursor but I
think it's very much doable.

We could say that yes. Note some of these aren't yet actively being
worked on. Also more work is required for them all to be fully confined,
for now many need devmode on the edge channel.

[Ubuntu-apps-bugs] [Bug 1647024] Re: RC proposed multiple regressions on messages contact and phone app

2016-12-05 Thread Pat McGowan
Updated an MX4 test device, I lost some message threads (12/2 and 8/3 remain)
and some call history (nothing after 10/7) but not all
Startup time for the apps is fine.

  There is massive regressions on today update. I have lost my call
  history and all my messages.

  The phone and messages app takes more than 20sec to boot instead of
  the 4sec.

  I believe there was a big landing for those two apps today (group chat
  support)

  progress bar at the bottom for at few seconds so it seem to be loading

  one has to load the browser manually look for the video via different

Bug description:
  Ubuntu 15.04 r224, BQ Aquaris E4.5

  1. Switch to the Emoji keyboard.

  What you see: Only 18 emoji are shown at a time.
  What you should see: Many more than that.

  In contrast, the Emoji keyboard on:
  * a Nexus 5 shows 21 emoji at once
  * an iPhone 5/6 shows 40 emoji at once — more than twice as many, in less
space.

  There seem to be four reasons for this inefficiency. In order of
  importance:

  A. The spacing between and around the rows is enough, in total, to fit
  an entire extra row of buttons. (Part of the spacing is because the
  keys have curved borders, apparently imitating some hardware Emoji
  keyboard that doesn't exist.)

  B. Most of the bottom row is taken up by a space bar, which is seldom
  relevant when people are typing emoji.

  C. Scrolling does not use the standard flick gesture. Instead it uses
  two dedicated buttons that, as well as being inconsistent with the
  rest of the OS, take up space on the keyboard.

  D. The keyboard has a “?123” button that is redundant with the button
  for switching layouts.

Bug description:
  U+1F3FB through U+1F3FF are not rendered in the messaging app.
  Instead the "empty rectangle" missing-character symbol is rendered.

  These characters are the "EMOJI MODIFIER FITZPATRICK TYPE" characters.
  They are meant to indicate skin tone of the preceding emoji.

  I know that on the messaging app, all emoji are currently rendered as
  black and white. I assume that is a design choice. In the case we
  given specific color information, we either could render the color as
  requested or ignore it. But in neither case should we show the
  "missing-character" symbol.

Bug description:
  The UA override lists are plain javascript files shipped by qml-
  module-ubuntu-web. The overrides are hardcoded, and often contain
  version numbers such as the webkit build version, the chrome/chromium
  build version, the ubuntu release, e.g.:

"Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; Ubuntu 14.04 like Android 4.4)
  AppleWebKit/537.36 Chromium/35.0.1870.2 Mobile Safari"

  It would be useful if we could generate those files at build time, and
  allow for variables to be replaced. For example, the above UA string
  would become:

"Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; Ubuntu @UBUNTU_VERSION@ like Android 4.4)
  AppleWebKit/@WEBKIT_VERSION@ Chromium/@CHROMIUM_VERSION@ Mobile
  Safari/@WEBKIT_VERSION@"

  Not all overrides would be required to use those variables, if
  necessary some version numbers could remain hardcoded.

  This is because the 'Downloads' folder doesn’t initially exist under
$HOME/snap/webbrowser-app/x2/.
  Creating the folder manually solves the issue.

  The DownloadsModel should check for the existence of the destination

  whenever entering a text field that already has text in it. For
  example, if you are replying to a Gmail message, you have an annoying
  blue selection handle blinking where you are trying to type and you
  can't turn it off. Or on a form, focusing on a field to append text
  will also show the selection handle. Or a multi line text area, adding
  a new line and typing at the beginning.

  Tested Chrome on Android and it behaves differently, and think we should do
similar:
   1. Show the selection handle initially, but have it disappear when you press
any key (space, character, etc.)
   2. Tapping anywhere in the field will cause handle to be shown again
   3. Also, can we put the selection handle on the bottom of the cursor instead
of the top? This is the behavior on Chrome for Android and the rest of our
non-html platform in Ubuntu touch.

  messaging-app.qml has the following code:

  onColumnsChanged: {
  // we only have things to do here in case no thread is selected
  if (layout.columns == 2 &&
!application.findMessagingChild("emptyStatePage") &&
!application.findMessagingChild("fakeItem")) {
  layout.removePage(mainPage)
  emptyStack()
  }
  }

  This causes the current conversation to be closed when the user
  rotates the phone (on a large-enough screen to go to two-column mode),
  and that can be very annoying. The APL can already take care of moving
  pages to the correct column and correct place in the stack when
  needed, so this code should be removed. Also note that emptyStack()
  will again call layout.removePage(mainPage).

  Sometimes when receiving a call the dialler is not fully visible and
  the header is clipped, like the entire page is slightly scrolled (cf
  screenshot)

  Test Case:
  1. On the DUT, close the dialler app and lock the phone
  2. Call the DUT from another phone
  3. Take the call and wait until the dialler UI is fully rendered.

  Expected result
  The whole UI is visible

  Actual result
  The header is clipped.

Bug description:
  Typically, when a touch selection is active, a quick menu with
selectall/copy/paste options is displayed.
  Per design request, we need to hide that menu when one of its actions is
tapped, only to show it again when the selection is tapped again. We need the
touch selection controller to expose an additional method for that.

  STEPS:
  1. Install the latest rc-proposed
  2. open the camera app
  3. You get a trust prompt asking for use of the camera
  4. Switch to video mode
  5. Tap on record
  6. Trust prompt is triggered again for mic access
  7. Go back to photo mode and enable loaction

  EXPECTED:
  I would expect to see a trust prompt for location here

  ACTUAL:
  It is just enabled as the trust prompt broke too many things at the time of
conception, so camera app was whitelisted.

  Being as it is a requirement for camera to have trust prompt for
  camera and mic access should it be the same for location too.

[Ubuntu-apps-bugs] [Bug 1607002] [NEW] Hiding tabs is inconsistent

2016-07-27 Thread Pat McGowan
Public bug reported:

Using on x86 laptop

The normal intended behavior seems to be to hide the tab row when the
user scrolls, as it does when I use two finger scrolling on the touchpad
or the touchscreen. Frequently scrolling this way does not hide the tabs
and they stay locked to the top of the frame. The same page may
initially hide the tabs while its loading then stop after more of the
page loads.

I also notice that scrolling with the scrollbar does not hide the tabs
which I assume is intentional.

 Importance: Undecided

Bug description:
  In turbo, r131, while watching a video on the browser the screen will
  lock after the set time in settings for screen locking. I'd expect it
  wouldn't lock while the video is playing.
