[ubuntu-art] More Rough Sketches
Hi all, On the bus back home before my holiday tonight I did some more rough sketches for GDM, Usplash (+some usplash throbbers) and Lsplash. I hope thay help: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Incoming/EdgyProposals/WhoSketches I apologise for not splitting them up on to separate pages, but I am in an enormous hurry, I am sleep depreived and it is late! Please remember I was on a bus! I can draw straight lines normally :P Enjoy, Who -- ubuntu-art mailing list ubuntu-art@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-art
[ubuntu-art] [REQUEST] Sound designers?
Are there any sound designers out there? I would suspect the number is critically low at the moment. That said, I believe that the opening sounds and such are very critical to Ubuntu's development. If anyone is interested in this facet, please contact me as I know several sound designers from the video game / motion picture industry who would probably love to help out. [ubuntu-art] [TT-Blubuntu] Blubuntu Ponder
Hi all, While I aim to have Blubuntu polished for potential inclusion in Edgy, I would also like to begin thinking more long term about the way it will look and feel - the very short dev-cycle we have for Edgy doesn't make it well suited to completely redesigning a new theme. So, to this end I have added a Blubuntu/BlubuntuPonder page to the incoming section - it is there for ideas and discussion of *loose things*: concepts, styles and ideas that can underpin the theme - the foundations from which we can _build it from the ground up_. I have put some early ideas on the page https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Incoming/Blubuntu/BlubuntuPonder I will continue to work on building a version for Edgy from the 'top down' (I.E "here is some art that I am going to make into a theme" rather than "here are some great ideas for a theme that I am going to build art around" - which I believe will yield better results) - and I would really love some support! any contribution would be great. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Incoming/Blubuntu I am going away for a two week holiday tonight - so I will not be able to contribute much more to the wiki - but I will certainly be letting Lake Annecy inspire me with blueish liquid ideas and hope to be doing some drawing too :) Who -- ubuntu-art mailing list ubuntu-art@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-art
[ubuntu-art] Edgy Eft Propose phase extension
Hello fellow artists, Today officially marks the end of the Propose phase, but I'm going to extend the phase by three days to get some more sketch-like submissions in. I've been working on sketches for the usplash and GDM theme myself and I added them to these two Wiki pages, please take a look: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Incoming/EdgyProposals/Usplash https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Incoming/EdgyProposals/GDMProposal It's unfortunate that I only recently had the time to get these sketches drawn, because they highlight what the Propose phase is about: coming up with compositional ideas. The good thing however is that we can create some sketches based on all submissions until now, just take a pencil and draw the idea without any details. Of course, you can use a computer program, but keep your submissions light on details and only use grayscale. While sketching the usplash and the GDM theme I found that it's really easy to come up with derivative and new ideas, because you don't have to put in a lot of time polishing pixels. For the wallpaper, I find it's quite difficult to make sketches that properly convey the idea, so maybe that's something we'll work out as new submissions roll in. For the login splash, Troy already created some nice sketch-like proposals on the Wiki, but more is better of course. So, to summarize: let's make a final sprint and focus on getting some ideas instead of pixels. I'm sure we'll have expanded the amount of sketches by the end of the weekend. Thanks for everyone's ongoing efforts and dedication! With kind regards, Frank Schoep -- ubuntu-art mailing list ubuntu-art@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-art

[ubuntu-art] [REQUEST] Press and web blah
First, I won't spend much time on this. Some folks will get distracted by the attention, and I beg all of you to simply put your head down and proceed. Also, I am quite sure that as a result of this rather sudden exposure, there are folks who are a little resistant to contribute etc. Please focus away from the outside and contribute! We need your support. This is especially true for anyone who feels a little dismayed by comments. Again, focus on our goals and use discipline. We set our goals on very attainable targets, and thus far we have made good progress. Remember, as of a month and a half ago we had a sum of _zero_ real focused artwork team people. We are developing a base. Our design cycle can accommodate all of your concerns if they are * Given the freedom to choose * Suggestions are recorded in the proper phases. While I completely agree with all of the complaints regarding gloss, it was in our development plan and we should consider sticking to it. Again, this entire cycle is very experimental. I can't stress this enough. If people hit the ground running, all of these sorts of considerations would be resolved in "Ponder". I plan on banging out a few sketches for the GDM if my tired body can find a little time this weekend before "Propose" finishes. Please folks -- dump out your loose pencil sketches and such so that we have some good submissions to consider! Loose is great as we can easily borrow ideas from a sketch. [ubuntu-art] [TT-Tropic] New Wallpaper and Splash Screen (and your help) Needed
Dear ubuntu-art members, Now that the overall style of Edgy has been decided on, I have decided that Tropic should also respect this style on the Wallpaper and Splash, while still keeping some elements of originality. This means, I am now openly taking propositions for Tropic's official Wallpaper and Splash Screen design! Please follow the guidelines I describe below, and I will set up a separate proposition page for Wallpapers and Splash Screens within the Tropic Wiki Page for submission when you are ready to post. Overall Guidelines: - It must use the guidelines set here ( https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Incoming/EdgyProposals/SetSample00 ), but with Orange and Yellow, and Square Edges. Splash Screen Guidelines: - Must use the arc shape and logo placement from my design: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Incoming/EdgyProposals/LSplashProposal I am so excited to see what you can come up with, giving Tropic a distinct style already to go by will improve the process a lot if Tropic (as suggested by some) becomes the default style for Edgy+1 Viper550 -- ubuntu-art mailing list ubuntu-art@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-art

[ubuntu-art] Nuak's Proposals
Hi all, If you haven't already seen them on the wiki, then Nuak has some great Lsplash proposals here https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Incoming/EdgyProposals/LSplashProposal He doesn't seem to have posted them to the list - and I would like to discuss them - so I have taken the liberty of doing it myself - I hope Nuak doesn't mind... I think these are really great! AICs (and Mark, if reading): Is there any chance of Edgy + 1 looking like this (or Edgy, but I guess it is a little to late for that)? I am aware we are comitted to Gloss as a result of Human - but I think this clean look 1)allows us to use the more warm, friendly browns (for gloss I find I tend to have to use orange or caramel, but that could just be me), 2) is divergent from Vista, XP and OSX and 3)is easier to convert to a wallpaper/GDM/Usplash (I.E _large_ things) than a completely glossy design. They prompted me to post my (5 minute composition - don't judge me!) honey/liquid lsplash as a way of trying to use a _few glossy elements_ with a cleaner main design. http://tinyurl.com/gejt7 Any opinions would be appreciated - AICs: is this 'allowed' or do we need things to be _all_ glossy? I will try and outline what I like about them so we can incorporate it into other glossy proposals in order to keep true to direction we seem committed to for this release... *Cleanliness - not cluttered or too busy *Warm, earthy browns as opposed to brighter oranges *The fading line - just looks cool :P *the simplicity of the logo (yes, I _know_ I am one of the people making complex, glossy logos :P...I can like both Just for the record, I like the middle one best Who -- ubuntu-art mailing list ubuntu-art@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-art
