It gives you a little insight into the development process
of MS, and is quite an interesting read.

Good one Troy. That's relevant in a number of ways right now. To me it
really underscores the silly processes MS is going through with Vista
and the main reason it's not out yet. How could lawyers and legal
advice be needed or even helpful for a few simple notes? And to think,
all the drama in those posts is over a startup sound that the people
haven't heard yet!

Makes you glad to have a sbdfl and AIC to make decisions in a matter of
moments that a mega corporation takes weeks or months debating.

And of course it also brings to light the reason that Bug #1 is so
fixable/attainable. Despite Vista being postponed time and time again
they still can't seem to speed up certain aspects of their development
process.

[ubuntu-art] Proposal : Ubuntu-Art forum.

2006-09-03 Thread PingunZ

An
Ubuntu-Art forum.

This is a text based on an idea I had
when I joined ubuntu-art.

I modified it a month later, so that I
wouldn't tell any lies :)
The general idea is an artwork forum,
replacing launchpad, the wiki and the Mailing List.
It explains the difficulties for
beginners and tries to solve those problems.
Enjoy :)

a ) Current State.

- Register to launchpad.
- subscribe to the mailing list.
- Join the irc channel.
- Register to the wiki.

This causes a lot of work to stay
updated.
You'll have to check your mail, the
wiki and launcpad.
Eventually even join the irc channel.

b) Future State. ( With the forum )

- subscribe to the forum.
- Eventually subscribe to threads /
forum sections.
- Join the irc channel.

A forum is easier to join and to stay
up-to-date.

c) Goods.

- Forums are more structured.
- Its easier to join, attracts more new
artists.
- Easier to stay updated.
- No more refering to wiki's anymore,
just post the image.
- Easier to post and find guides.
- Discussions and feedback will be
easier to track
- Only one site to check.
- Proposals, mockups are easier to
publish.

d) Bads.

The risk of spam, flaming, .. But that
is also possible in the mailing list.
Feel free to add some :)

e) Forum Layout.

Support
: Questions about program functions can be found here.
Bugs :
Current bugs in the artwork can be posted here.
Produce :
Icons, wallpapers, *DMs, usplash', ... The real produce phase runs
here.
Howto's and guides
: User posted guides about making art or using programs,..
Incoming
: Members post mockups, others revise it. Maybe even realise it.

Projects
: New programs or projects can be introduced here.
Calendar
: The ubuntu-art Calendar.
Artwork Cafe:
A place where artists can chill out after a hard day of work.

f) Goal

The
goal of this idea is really simple, attract more artists to join
ubuntu-art.

And let them work more structured.

This is a really good idea. Forums have many advantages over a mailing list, I'd vote for this anytime.Btw, I'm back and with a new computer. :)/weidel2006/9/3, Walter Tizzano

[ubuntu-art] [REQUEST] Produce DEADLINE

2006-09-03 Thread Troy James Sobotka
Please note the schedule archived here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Specs/EdgyArtworkPlan/

This has been the schedule since the beginning of the
cycle, and we must stick to it as the rest of the development
team is in sync with those dates.

September 7th is the final deadline for all artwork. It
must be included at that date to provide for bug testing and
such. Luckily, our limited number of specifications means
that the quantity of bugs will be rather small -- other
than the usual 'i hate it' bug. ;)

I cannot stress enough that in order for this team to be
taken seriously and credibly by Canonical, we _must_ step
up and meet this deadline.

If you would like to see _more_ accomplished next cycle,
that will require us proving to Canonical that we can
accomplish our tasks set out -- which were very manageable.

Also bear in mind that ultimately, Ubuntu is quite different
from the other distributions. We have a clear set of restrictions
to operate within, and _all_ artwork changes must meet the
sabdfl Test.

Please look at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Specs/EdgyArtworkPlan/Produce/Incoming/

for the current crop of work. Much of the work there needs rounding
out for completion and working GDM XML. It is a great opportunity
to step in and match the style to round out a set if you have any
time.

Thank you all immensely, and once again, let's try to deliver
on what we managed to get approved at the beginning.

Sincerely,
TJS
