I'm not quite sure which migration issue you're referring to.

We're not dumping them completely, but will shove them to Universe,
where people can still easily install them from.

Have a nice day,

Consistency is a well praised element in the artwork team camp. That
said, we are dealing with very complicated circumstances. As you can
imagine, the icons take a good deal of effort. Currently, the bulk of
the icons were contracted by sabdfl and built by the IconFactory. If
someone were to construct a set of panel icons that met sabdfl's
approval, it is possible they could be included. This is not an easy
endeavor however. ;)

The palette has never been used to the best of my knowledge. There is
currently _no_ official palette for Ubuntu.

I believe if you read the last UWN you will see some information on the
newest Feisty related Compiz elements.

I believe some of the limitations are inherent in GNOME. You would
either need to address them with code or formalize a bug report for
change.

Hope this helps,

I believe we discussed this in Paris -- the problem you raised was a
technological migration issue. Is this still an issue?

I am 100% for dumping the legacy themes. In fact, default artwork
should probably only consist of the single elements for the default
looks. Everything else should be repository based.

[ubuntu-art] Plea for a choice of themes having subtle gentle colours?

2006-11-22 Thread alan c
I hope I have not missed something, I am new to this list and I
appreciate visual appearances.

I frequently find that for my taste, most themes are a bit full-on, in
the face, strong colour. This is great for a refreshing change, but
can be a little tiresome when I want the 'content' to rule, and the
theme to 'fade into the background'.

I make a plea for a theme/s which includes a gentle perhaps pastel
shades, minimal colour, accepted that it must be seen(!)

For example I generally have to make up a custom one, light brown,
sandy, etc, as far as I can see, lighter in colour than themes usually
offered.

[ubuntu-art] Branching Feisty Artwork

2006-11-22 Thread Daniel Holbach
Hello everybody,

Just a quick heads-up: I'm going to branch the edgy-* art packages in a
bit. Meaning that you'll be able to bring freshness into Ubuntu quite
soon.

  * feisty-community-wallpapers,
  * feisty-gdm-themes,
  * feisty-session-splashes,
  * feisty-wallpapers.

will soon turn up in Launchpad (and be translatable, and get bugs,
etc.), so please subscribe the ubuntu-art team to them.

Apart from that, I'd like to drop the individual themes from
ubuntu-artwork. gray-theme, industrialtango-theme, legacyhuman-theme,
outdoors-theme, resilience-theme, silicon-theme have been part of
Ubuntu's default for 2 releases now and I think with feisty we should
add something fresh. This is not my call, but I'd like to discuss it
here.

Thanks for your input.

Have a nice day,
 Daniel

In my opinion this is how OranSoda (great name) shuold look:

http://taimila.com/orange-look.php

OranSoda: less-human, more-orange :-P

Yes, you're right. menubar items should only be higlighted.

I don't like roundness as they are implemented in murrine.
It's a kind of rounded square than rounded buttons, that i prefear.

I have to try your gtkrc with FancyHuman

Anyway had you seen the panel background of FancyHuman? I like it very
much, its style is similar to the os x menu bar.

With that kind of stripes, menu become less readable.
Something like this is better:
http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=48447
It's the "fancy" version of Human Murrina.
Great look and good taskbar background (it clear icons and font
appearence).

I don't approve the Murrine Fancy Human. Yes it is quite good, but for me
the striped menu in the menubar do the same as the striped button: make
things not readable.
Another disadvantage it that the concave style of FancyHuman does not
support rounded widget that are more smooth that squared one.
Feel free to combine FancyHuman with my gtkrc files and edit the wiki with
you proposal!

i love it. i'm not a designer, so i feel a bit of apprehension about
criticizing... but i, personally, don't like the stripes in the
menu-select and the status bars. also, the scroll bars bother me. but
details details.

what about the replacement of stripes in the menu and scrollbar? if you
don't like it we can think to mix the engines in the gtkrc files. To have
as base the murrine one, but some details that in murrina are not good (for
you) render by another engines, i.e. ubuntulooks.

this is still, overall, a fantastic submission.

thnx ;)
