Also, the orange colour isn't orange enough IMO, try something similar more deep and rich. Here's the thing -- we don't have to worry about stepping on artist's toes or hurting feelings. I'm sure the narrowing strokes and others are intentional. But are they better? But as things stand, he has his font and Ubuntu ships something else. The license should mean anyone who disagrees is free to walk away, and anyone who likes it is free to borrow some or all of it. (I should mention the ambiguous nature of font design rights, but I'm hardly an IP lawyer). I'm honored that a professional took the time to demonstrate his talents with this font; the mark of a professional in any field is being open to review. More productively, does anyone else get blanks when loading the current font into FontForge? Steps I take to reproduce: 1. Install FontForge from universe: "sudo apt-get install fontforge" 2. Download the source package to ttf-ubuntu-title "apt-get source ttf-ubuntu-title" 3. Open the FontForge .sfd: "fontforge ttf-ubuntu-title-0.3/Ubuntu-Title.sfd" 4. Note the lack of glyphs. 5. Open the .ttf instead and see wonderous glyphs ready for editing. Justin Dugger -- ubuntu-art mailing list ubuntu-art@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-art

You can't have the tag line be a different font, that's ugly and stupid. You could do without the tag line, but then you're not really saying anything at all, which might be fine for a boot screen, but for anything more you probably want to avoid mixing fonts if the logo is central to the work. Re: [ubuntu-art] Hardy Heron style Ibex wallpaper
I agree it shouldn't be default, but couldn't it be considered for inclusion amongst the other wallpapers available? Sorry for discussing useless things... But Salane, you were the one saying we need getting started on wallpapers... I'm sorry I can't come up with anything more constructive, but I keep seing great artworks on this list for some years, and nothing come up from this thing, they just disapear or we forget about them... By the way, why don't we have any news about New Wave? Is it also forgotten or are they working on their own on lauchpad until it's finished (which would be great)? Concerning discussions about fonts, icons, and the theme: I'm all for it, but what should be discussed? For the fonts, it's a rather technical subject, so people with knowledge about it should specificaly list attributes for a good default font, and we should discuss the possibilities. As I understand it, as we need a free international font, that leaves us with a very limited choice, so we should explicitly compare them and come up with a choice. *Yann Dìnendal* -- ubuntu-art mailing list ubuntu-art@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-art
Re: [ubuntu-art] Hardy Heron style Ibex wallpaper
I like how there is discussion about a wallpaper we cannot even see when there could be discussion about fonts, icons, and the theme. Not that I don't love the style, but do we really want to repeat ourselves? That's if we're considering this idea for default. -Cory K. -- ubuntu-art mailing list ubuntu-art@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-art

[ubuntu-art] Wiki Art Initiative - Lets Work Together! Deadlines Also
Ubuntu Art Team- I started the wiki organization scheme a few weeks ago, and some progress has been made. here are the 3 pages: * Fonts: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Incoming/Intrepid/Intrepid_Ibex_Font_-_Art_Team * Icons: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Incoming/Intrepid/Intrepid_Ibex_Icons_-_Art_Team * Theme: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Incoming/Intrepid/Ubuntu_8.10_Theme_-_Art_Team Fonts- This is going well. Google has not replied to our inquiries, so Android is still not Open Source. As of know we have Liberation and Deja Vu Condensed. Lets discuss this more. I would like to have the new font in the Alpha 4 of Intrepid Ibex, so our aim to choose a font should be by August 7th. Icons - No work has commenced here. I personally love the Oxygen icon set - Icons like that are very good looking. I dont think that current icon sets will work, as we need one tailored to this new look for Ubuntu. Therefore we pretty much need to create one. Since nothing has happened with this so far, no deadline for this. We need more people to work on this. Theme - Make sure you post guidelines in a wiki then link it on the main art team theme wiki. Mockups will be created using these guidelines within the next 2 weeks - and the theme should be out based on these guidelines soon. Gtk/metacity programmers- be ready to help on this community created theme. We have some very talented programmers already on board, but many many more are needed. Wallpaper - We need wallpaper suggestions. I haven't seen discussion on this in a while, so lets get started on that. There is a wiki page for this already- so lets use that. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Incoming/Intrepid/Desktop_Background_Submissions How about a deadline for the Alpha 4 as well on this one. I see plenty of options here. August 7th! Lets get this going people. This is a good way to work on things- ask people you know, find talented artists on the internet- we need to prove the Art Team can do something useful. Hi folks, I spoke with salane about creating a gtk-theme. As a result I created a wiki page for that: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Incoming/Intrepid/Intrepid_Ibex_GTK_proposal What do you think about using the pixmap engine?
