The packaging of blubuntu is quite complicated. I suggest you take a

Using this as a template it should be easy to add a new package which
you build from the same source.

[ubuntu-art] Artwork Bugs

2007-04-17 Thread Daniel Holbach
Hello everybody,

Sébastien and I decided that the Desktop Bugs team has enough bugs to
cope with already. https://launchpad.net/~desktop-bugs/+packagebugs
might give you a good impression of that. Therefore we removed
desktop-bugs as a bug contacts of: human-* and feisty-* and some other
packages I might have forgotten.

The Artwork team has done a very good job in following up on those bugs
in the last time, so I don't think this is going to be a problem.

If you have any questions that might be desktop related, it's no problem
to subscribe the Desktop Team to those bugs and ask for information.

Have a nice day,
 Daniel

Next I will examine the content to make my commit. In past I worked
with Svn , I know how to commit, but I want to underline that this
will be the FIRST ubuntu official commit, so I am not a bazaar guru ;)

bzr is quite easy to use, if you run into trouble, either check
http://bazaar-vcs.org/Documentation or check the output of
  * bzr help
  * bzr help command
or ask me or ask in #bzr on irc.freenode.net

If that's your first commit to bzr, this won't work. Your package needs
to be in bzr too.

But it's very easy:

cd myproject; bzr init; bzr add *; bzr commit -m initial commit

# go to http://launchpad.net/products/+new and register the
# product (package) if it's not there yet.

# add your SSH key to your personal Launchpad profile at:

bzr push
sftp://yourID@bazaar.launchpad.net/~yourID/yourTeam/product/branchname

# for example:
# bzr push
sftp://[EMAIL PROTECTED]/~telepathy/telepathy-inspector/ubuntu
# (which has the ubuntu packaging of it)

Another question: did you ever build a package from your theme? It needs
to build before you submit it. I'm sorry.

That is, What's my LanuchpadID for this command? lizardking or
 iacopo.masi?

It's iacopo-masi .

[ubuntu-art] Automatic Artwork Builder

2006-12-05 Thread Daniel Holbach
Hello everybody,

to make updating and test-building artwork packages easier, the idea of
building a service that handles the task came up. I worked on this
automatic artwork builder and you can find instructions on how to use it
over here:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/AutomaticArtworkBuilderInstructions

A prerequisite for using this service is that you use bzr for your
package and that the package builds for you. You can find a list of
artwork packages that are all in bzr and should all be interesting to
look at and learn from here:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Documentation/InBzr

The server pulls from your bzr branch every half an hour, so at :00
and :30 new and updated packages should be ready.

Of course does the builder still have some bugs and some features we
identified as important and interesting are still missing. These
features are listed on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ArtBuilderImprovements

If you run into a bug, or problem or have a suggestion, please let me
know. Also if the instructions are unclear, please drop me a mail or
discuss on this mailing list.

Have a nice day,
 Daniel

[ubuntu-art] Bug Subscriptions

2006-10-23 Thread Daniel Holbach
Hello everybody,

thanks a lot to everybody who works on artwork related bugs. Just some
minutes ago I assigned
https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/legacyhuman-theme/+bug/67548 to
the 'ubuntu-art' team and it took just a few minutes to get helpful comments -
that's simply great.

It would be great if the team would be default subscriber to artwork
bugs. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/InBzr might be a good start for a
list of packages. For edgy-gdm-themes for example you just need to check
https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/edgy-gdm-themes/+subscribe
and mark the 'ubuntu-art' team as subscriber.

The advantage of this is not only being notified and being able to fix
bugs quickly, you also get a nice overview page with that:
https://launchpad.net/people/ubuntu-art/+packagebugs - the Desktop team
is already using this shiny Launchpad feature to great avail.

It will make you as a team aware of what people want, what is broken
etc. in a very quick fashion.

Thanks in advance, have a nice day,
 Daniel

how/where these thigns get set as defaults.

Doing this in a separate package would involve using dkpg-divert or
using nasty tricks.

The easiest thing you can do, if you just replace files is:

# get build dependencies
sudo apt-get install devscripts build-essential
sudo apt-get build-dep ubuntu-artwork

# get the source of the last package
apt-get source ubuntu-artwork (in Dapper)

cd ubuntu-artwork-*
# replace all the files, but be sure to have the same names.
dch -i
# a new version number, plus some fancy changelog entry
debuild -us -uc
sudo debi

Voilà: you should now have a ubuntu-artwork_something.deb package
lying around, which you can install and give to others.

This is the simplest case, everything else requires more mumbo-jumbo and
would probably not fit on this list. If you're interested in packaging,

[ubuntu-art] Tangerine - your help needed!

2006-04-09 Thread Daniel Holbach
Hello everybody,

as you all have noticed, tangerine-icon-theme hit the archives and all
the good work is finally available for everybody. If you have the
standard Human theme selected, it will use Tangerine as a fallback now.

I'm very happy that the good work of the Art Team finally made it in and
want to thank everybody involved, especially Andreas Nilsson and Pascal
Klein (those were the two I talked to and worked with). Andreas did an
incredibly good job in mastering bzr and the build system - I'm quite
happy that he took over the role of Tangerine Release Manager. Thanks
for that.

While this is very nice, works quite seamless and the first impressions
of tangerine-icon-theme together with Human are awesome, there is still
some work left. :-)

I'd like to invite you to have a look at
http://daniel.holba.ch/ubuntu/ic

Mark made his priorities for Dapper clear and I suppose he'll update
them every now and then. The page gives us an overview over how much we
cover with Human and Tangerine and how important which icons are to us.

If you have good ideas or already started working on some of these:
Andreas will be happy to include them in his bzr branch and I'll take
care of getting this uploaded to Ubuntu.

Andreas, if you could outline, which process you'd like best, that'd be
nice.

Thanks again for your awesome work on Ubuntu Art and let's get cracking
on making Ubuntu Dapper the ultimate icon experience!

Have a nice day,
 Daniel

[ubuntu-art] QA Contact

2005-12-08 Thread Daniel Holbach
Hi everybody,

I wondered, if the Ubuntu Artwork team could serve as a 'QA contact' on
Artwork related bug reports, we receive.

The problem is that people sometimes expect changes to the general look
of Ubuntu, which should be discussed on a broader basis with more
experts at hand. As you might imagine, developers are not always the
best choice for this.

The Doc team and the Accessibility team are already consulted when bug
reports to their area of expertise appear.

This additionally brings the teams more closely together over problems
that user face or expectations they have.

Hope to hear from you soon.
