Re: [ubuntu-art] Karmic boot and login - 3rd iteration

Great background. Now I think the white selection color should be toned down
or replaced with another color :) Also +1 to the glow tone down. It looks a
little too over done atm. Its like a really pretty girl with a little too
much makeup.
Thanks

Guys I think you have pretty much nailed the background etc. well done

I just feel that the menus look a bit too white, maybe less of a white blur and
lessen the white
block on the menus

Other than that, fantastic

Sexy. I think the glow on the ubuntu logo needs to be turned down a
notch (currently it looks like a bad blurry outline). Actually enjoying
the rather fresh and unique colors. Love the secondary lights,
darkening of 'floor'. Both user selection dialog, and password entry
dialog should have white stroke to remain consistent with bottom bar.

Well, what would be the options? I can easily imagine a couple, but each
choice would make a group of people scream, I'm sure.

The additional lights at the side do a good job of loosening things up
(as in: less stiff).

Glow on the logo seems over the top to me.

Background/colors are smooth and harmonious now. Makes me think of wine.

The flat color with no beveling on the dialogs still make them look like
holes.

Please consider to make the "Cancel" and "Log in" buttons bright on
dark.

Login options should not have "...". Menus elsewhere come without.

You could make password dialog dark on bright (white) as continuation of
the selected list item.

I like the color , makes me think of black-currant ice-cream , Yummy ;)

But , I wonder how with 3 light sources , there are still dark spots in
the room? [lower right and left] IMO, those dont have to be fully black.

Also the pop-up menus dont to have a white outline, an outline like the
iteration 1 would look better.

cheers,

[ubuntu-art] Karmic boot and login - 3rd iteration

2009-08-18 Thread Mat Tomaszewski
Hi,

Thanks for all the feedback on our work so far. We were glad to see that
the use of brown was welcomed with some scepticism, we aren't sure about
it, too! :)

And even more, thanks for all the new contributions. Mr. doob—we love
your work, please talk to us on the mailing list or on irc, wiki is not
really a good place for discussions...

Talking about new contributions, in particular ones that were based on
our work—great job guys, it's really encouraging to see so much response.
Few notes:
- the current designs are bound with various technical limitations, in
particular the gdm codebase, which only allows for theme changes without
much flexibility (e.g. no transparency). Therefore (this time) we can't
really go "full on" with crazy, innovative UI concepts.
- we really want to maintain the impression of depth and spacious
environment—something we felt was missing in mr.doob's work and some
other contributions. Mr.doob (if you're reading this): please don't give
up yet! :)

So, enough babbling, this is the 3rd iteration. Let us know what you think!

Cheers,

M.
