The Ubuntu font has always been rather sad in terms of execution in
addition to being rather derivative of Fedora's official font.

Yes, Christian's work is exemplary and elevates the font to a
professional level regarding spacing and ascents etc. Judging from his
blog post comments however, I can understand why he probably isn't
absolutely thrilled with his intended audience.

Short of getting Christian's work implemented as the new official Ubuntu
font, there are only two options as far as I can tell:

 * Manually adjust the bleak font spacing to help rid the nasty
typographic colour.
 * Use the official font _only_ for the term Ubuntu. It simply doesn't
qualify as a font for other uses unless we as a group are happy with a
rather amateur presence.

I would give a huge vocal plus one to Ken if he can get Christian's work
on the map regarding the power structure. Licensing can apparently be
sorted out as he seems open to making changes.

Sincerely,
TJS

The Ubuntu logo was made by the same person as the font Ubuntu Title,
Andy Fitzsimon, unless I'm mistaken. Only the 't' has been modified
between the two. Nothing prevents you from keeping the 't' as in the
original logo.

On top of that, I strongly dislike the m and r in Title and somewhat

Your 'r' and 'm' are better than in Ubuntu Title. But there's
something strange about the 'a', and the 's' is very distorted.

I'll gladly hand out the SVG to anyone who thinks he can improve my
letters but I remain against using one of the fonts here.

The problem is that if each Ubuntu artist start making new characters
to match the official Ubuntu title for every new project, we'll end up
with many typefaces. If there's something wrong with Ubuntu Title, why
not fix it there so every one can benefit from it?

Wrong. All letters have at least been straightened out a bit. Just take
a close look at your own comparison.

I admit that I'm not too happy about the s. But I tweaked it for what
felt like an eternity and finally went with what I had. Nobody
complained before the launch, although there was plenty of opportunity.

The problem is that if each Ubuntu artist start making new characters

True. If.

If there's something wrong with Ubuntu Title, why
not fix it there so every one can benefit from it?

This was no option, because as I said, there are changes to all letters
between the official logo and either font. I don't have the energy or
time to create yet another font, especially as I see no chance of
getting everyone to use that one, then.

I've attached a image with the current brainstorm logo, one with
Ubuntu Title and one with Ubuntu Titling, in that order.

The ubuntu part in my version is straight from the official logo.
Setting ubuntu in one those 2 fonts looks quite different. I think
