Actually if you could backburner this and instead provide
more unpolished options, I believe it would be more
productive.

Remember, let's try to keep at 'proposing'.

Separate colour palette, backing forms, and compositional
elements into their respective categories.

It makes it easier to 'mix and match' directions.

To be honest, the 1st seems a bit too distracting with the "blinking"
circles.

I like the Dapper mouse-in-wheel splash screen, that makes me grin every
time I see it.

How about updating that for Edgy, with a glossy wheel/Ubuntu logo or
something?

I personally, think that xubuntu needs a splash update that brings it
more in line with the other siblings. The rotating mouse was good for

To be honest, the 1st seems a bit too distracting with the "blinking"
circles.

I prefer the 2nd (logo and letters look really cool), but wonder how
something in between - similar to the 2nd splash but using the 1st
background - would look...

I second this opinion. Progress bar is more intuitive, more telling
and more expected by user than blinking circles.

[ubuntu-art] Xubuntu splash

2006-07-22 Thread jmak

Hi all,

Here are two login splashes I've designed for xubuntu edgy. They are
gif animations. As you know, one of the most important consideration
when creating any kind of artworks for xubuntu is to be small in file
size. I hope I managed to strike a reasonable compromise between file
size and prettiness. Version 1 only 30KB and Version 2 only 20KB.

You can look at them here:
