choosing either way is OK, but when u SET a fixed lighting source from
above as the default, and choose to ignore it for *folders and action*
buttons, which by the way are the *most commonly used icons* , then what
is the point?
if those icons which the user is always going to be exposed to have
lighting from below , then all the rest of the icons which have the
light from above seem like the odd ones ! In my opinion this would be a
flaw ...

There's still the assumption of light from above for the folders, as can
be seen from the shadow. It's just the addition of a glow-from-below
effect.

I meant what is the point of having the Rule when the most commonly used
icons are the exceptions! shouldnt the lighting from them be set as the
rule for the rest less commonly used icons. again just my 2c.

took down my version from the wiki ... :)

but i think the lighting needs to be addressed for all the action icons
, spoke to Cory on the irc about the lighting, i think he might
considering ur old idea...
he said he needs to be remind again, when he returns, to have a closer
look at the icons...

Pls bring up ur idea again about the lighting effects , i think this
time he might reconsider ur idea. :)

 Hi,
From what i have understood, the lighting for the icons are supposed to
be from the top , and the only exception was made for the folder icons
just to maintain continuity with the human icon folder, BUT why do *all*
the action icons have the light source from the bottom? i'v found that
all the action icons are lighter below and darker above!

Is this also a conscious design decision?

As I look back, yes it was. Really, it wouldn't chuff me either way if
Daniel wants to change them.

I do want to note that we *can* choose to do this at times. These are
buttons not actual objects like screens, folders and such.

PS: @ *Daniel* : i saw the document save icon and didnt think that red
was the right color for save so , i edited the icon , not sure if this
is allowed, didnt mean to vandalize your icon but, since i didnt find
any mails regarding this new icon or your irc nic, i just did the edit
 myself.

I had made some proposals in the light of the arrows above, but was not
accepted.

Think that the arrows should be consistent, and above all with correct
light or all with translucy efect.

green color it had reserved for other icon save as. with some
modifications to the arrow.

The inspiration for red color comes from the gnome-colors and it works
very well.

i think *kwwii* would strongly oppose the use of red!
he was very specific that red should not be used for anything other
than for icons to alert something not working.

thought the icon looks good, just to maintain consistency, u might want
to consider another color. :)

Well, first off, you need to take my comments in perspective. I said that using
red in a panel icon should mean something, not just be for the looks.

I had understood ur point about the use of red, before that day i didnt
realize that,
Taking note of that, i thought that since it applied to the notify-osd
also apart from the panels icons, bringing it to the whole system would
make more sense. would make things more uniform[uniformity i think is
what is mainly not yet achieved in Ubuntu :( ]

and i dint think that red was the correct color for save!

on hind sight, i think i used ur name more to names drop :P
