Thank you Dan,

Mission accomplished.

(Part of the problem was I couldn't find where the files were stored in
the Windows system. Finally, I simply went into Thunderbird>Account
Settings . . . and there, low and behold, it revealed the "local
directory".)

Thanks again

The Mozilla Thunderbird FAQ covers this:
http://www.mozilla.org/support/thunderbird/faq#export

The mail files are stored in MBOX format. This is universally readable
by most mail programs. Evolution can import direct from these files via
it's built in Import wizard by selecting the "Import Single File"
option, and pointing to your "Inbox" file within your Thunderbird profile.

Thunderbird Win to Evolution Ubuntu?

2009-06-02 Thread The Wassermans
I have Thunderbird (ver 2.0.0.14 for Windows) on an old PC. I want to
transfer all of that mail to Evolution (Ubuntu 8.04) on my present PC.

There is no apparent export function in T/Bird. (The Internet has some
suggestions but I can't get any of them to work!)

Where and what directories/files can I copy to the new PC in order to
have Evolution import the mail?

(If need be, I could tolerate importing them in T/Bird Ubuntu as they
are generally reference mails anyway.)

Would suggest "Ogg Convert" - you can find this in Add/Remove programs.

I just tried one, and it seems to have worked okay ...

If you're not anti-non-free codecs, consider the Medibuntu project:

http://www.medibuntu.org/

Guides are on the site to add the repositories to your software update
sources, and from there install new files for
non-free/proprietary/binary-only codecs.

Other useful tools for converting video include AVIDemux, mencoder,
transcode and VLC. All are available in the default repos.

Thanks all for your help I am using ubuntu 9.04 and "network
connections" for configurations. I have tried *21#,#21# and *99# ,a
pop up top right of screen comes down and says "GSM network
disconnected" then goes away. Well this looks like my phone is not
happy with ubuntu any suggestion on phones that like ubuntu (except
nokia) as this one is due for replacment anyway. This does not mean
that I give in, there might be people in the same boat so any tricks
to get it going are welcome

Have you tried dragging them into a Kdenlive project? You can use
Kdenlive's output renderer to convert them, or edit them together and
use Kdenlive's DVD authoring function to chuck them onto a DVD.

DeVeDe will let you convert anything mplayer can play to DVD.

It's in the repos. Awesome program.

Converting .MOV files

2009-06-02 Thread opm595
G'day All,
I have some old video files that are in .MOV. I can of course play them
with Ubuntu, but can anyone tell me if there's a way to convert .MOV
files to say .MPEG, .OGG or, even better, straight to DVD format so I
can watch them on my telly using my DVD player (plays just about
everything except .mov files)?
Cheers,
Rob

I chased this up last year and had to register at the zte forum

The forum is next to useless for linux related info for the 156 and
basically says no possible connection even for contacts, calender no
mention of data connection.

Later I found this about connecting a ZTE modem
.
It may give a hint, I didn't chase it up.

The 156 worked as a modem in WinXP but only with the ZTE application
so it should be possible.

Good luck, please let us know if you get it working.  I noticed a
number of trolls on forums claiming success but asking for a direct
e-mail to them - I think that is BS.
