As long as you have kept all your Ubuntu network settings default it should pick it up. However, how you set up the new connection in Ubuntu will be completely different as it's a different type of connection that what you've previously used. Have you used an ethernet (cable) network with that computer successfully before? If so, I would check to make sure you haven't changed a bunch of the default settings. If not, it will likely either be related to network manager settings or related to the driver for your ethernet port. The main reason LoCos exist is to promote Ubuntu within the LOcal COmunity (hence the name - LoCo). Some ways of doing this that pop to mind are: * working with local LUGs (or other clubs/groups) to promote, distribute and educate members and the public about Ubuntu * organising regular local catch ups (often referred to as "Ubuntu Hours") * organising a release party * arranging to get tables at events and conferences to share Ubuntu * setting up an installation festival to help new users set up Ubuntu on their device * holding an event to get a group of Ubuntu contributors together locally to do some bug squashing, documentation, localisation, etc. Most of these types of events have been run in the past within the Ubuntu-AU team so if you're not sure about them feel free to ask, someone will no doubt pipe up. The LoCo has the resources to help publicise the event but each event has generally been thought of, organised and run by an individual or small group of volunteers in a particular area. So if you're interested in doing one of these things start having a think about it and let the team know and gauge interest, you might even find someone else to pitch in and help out. For those who would like further information or inspiration I'd recommend reading the following links: http://loco.ubuntu.com/events/ https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LoCoTeamHowto#Things_your_LoCo_can_do https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LoCoTeamKnowledgeBase#LoCo_Activities Regards, Jared Norris -- ubuntu-au mailing list ubuntu-au@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-au

Re-verification
Good evening all, I have been advised this week that we as a team are up for re-verification shortly. However based upon my view I do not think we as a team would meet the requirements [1] to be a verified LoCo. There was a lot of discussion on the list last time this came up so wanted to put this out to the team before accepting this fate. Essentially while I see we have the solid background and resources our actual activity has dropped significantly over the last several cycles. While I believe there are significant numbers of Australians contributing greatly to the Ubuntu project in various ways I don't believe there is much advocacy work being carried out, which is what the LoCo is primarily used for [2]. If we are to accept that we will not be a verified team there would be no significant change to what we have done in the past. We will still have this mailing list, we will still have a website [3], we will still have the Launchpad team [4] and we will still have the IRC channel [5]. As described on the wiki page linked [1] the only benefit of being a verified team is an auto allocation of CDs and the ability to more easily obtain larger conference packs. While we have used these in the past I haven't had a request for either over the last 2 cycles so cannot see this greatly impacting on our team. So if anyone would like to seek re-verification please let us all know, if I don't hear anything in the next week I will assume the team is happy to let verification slip. As always, if anyone is interested in running some local events the team and I are here to support you, just shoot the list an email. To: Jared Norris Hello Jared (Ubuntu Aust.), Pine Rivers Computer Club had a presentation night of Open Source systems after much research over past months trying to ready Members for the Windows XP support closure by Microsoft. MS has been a hard nut to crack owing to the contentment of MS products that many Members had not thought further in their minds that one day product support would alternatively change one's thinking. Club President Mike Dodds pointed out that Microsoft was not leaving 'us' but changing their support basis of products to Tablet and more of Mobile Phone development, plus their recent software development like Window 8, of which some Club Members were experimenting with. Mike demonstrated Ubuntu and Linux Mint 16. A Member mentioned how he was happy to be using Linux Mint 15 along side his Windows Xp. Some Members have expressed interest of obtaining Ubuntu and other Open Source programs for evaluation. (Jared, your donated Ubuntu product is now finding more acceptance as a result of Club Night.) So, Jared and Matthew, we think we may have 'cracked the nut' in changing Members perceptions about a wider range of IT products. In some way, you both have played a part in this and for that I thank you. I certainly have learnt much from our contact! Our Workshop Sunday Apr.27 will feature demo of Ubuntu product and Linux open Source systems as well as sorting out more Window problems that Members seem to keep for such a Workshop day. Meeting Team Verification
Good evening all, Just a brief wrap of the meeting from Sunday, essentially we discussed the awesome event Joel ran at UQ recently where he had 50+ students keen to hear about Ubuntu and also linked up with some of the local LUG members who helped out. I also wanted to let people know that I went ahead and submitted what we had for the team verification as per the discussion at the meeting. The main feedback at the moment is that it's a little bare of photos so if anyone has any team photos from the last 2 years if they can add them to the team flickr group or the page itself that would be great. I will do a proper write up of the verification when I have a little more time, if anyone has any specific questions please feel free. The application is purely the wiki page, nothing secret. I believe Joel is going to do a little write up of his event so I look forward to reading it. -- Regards, Jared Norris https://wiki.ubuntu.com/JaredNorris -- ubuntu-au mailing list ubuntu-au@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-au

Fwd: Re-Energizing LoCo Teams
. This is not to suggest our existing and previous LoCo Councils has and have not been doing great work; I am tremendously thankful for their remarkable contributions. I just think we need to amp up our game, in much of the same way we have been amping up the Ubuntu platform. Now is our opportunity and we need to grasp it with both hands. This is a tremendous opportunity for great leaders to have a real world-changing impact on Ubuntu and Free Software in general. If you are excited about the opportunity of re-energizing LoCo Teams, bringing leadership, and challenging the norm, I strongly encourage you to apply. Please share your ideas for leadership and change in your application. I am doggedly committed to helping to make our LoCo Teams successful and I have some ideas around how we do this when the new council is formed. I am looking forward to working with our new generation of leaders to help our LoCo Teams to do incredible world-changing work with an incredible world-changing platform. Fwd: New Local communities health check process
Good morning all, I also thought I should forward on the message below as it relates to re-approval which is now known as verification. If anyone wants to champion the creation of the verification health check please let me know and we can get started. We are actually due for a health check this cycle so this change will affect us shortly. -- Forwarded message -- From: Bhavani Shankar R bh...@ubuntu.com Date: 26 August 2013 00:09 Subject: New Local communities health check process To: Ubuntu local community team (LoCo) contacts loco-conta...@lists.ubuntu.com Cc: community-annou...@lists.ubuntu.com, Submit and discuss any Ubuntu related news stories ubuntu-n...@lists.ubuntu.com, Submit and discuss any Ubuntu related news stories ubuntu-news-t...@lists.ubuntu.com Dear All, As the subject says, this process will be the new process, aiming to replace the current re approval process. It aims to be less formal, more interactive and above all still keep people motivated to be involved in the Ubuntu community. Every team shall be known as a LoCoteam, teams that were previously known as an “Approved LoCoteam” shall be known as a “Verified LoCoteam”. New teams shall be a LoCoteam, teams do not have to be verified. The term Verified means that a Launchpad team has been created, the team name conforms to the correct naming standard and the team contact has signed the Code of Conduct. Every two years a team will present itself for a HealthCheck - This is still beneficial to everyone involved, it gives the team a chance to show how they are doing and also the council can catch up with the team. What is needed for a HealthCheck? Create a Wiki with the activities of the period - Name the wiki page with Name of your team plus the YEAR example - LoCoTeamVerificationApplication20XX with the below details: Name of team How many people are in the team Link to your wiki page / Launchpad group page Social Networks (if they have any of them). Link to loco team portal page, Events page, Paste events page - this is a good reason to encourage teams to use the team portal as all of the information is there and saves duplication. Photo Galleries of past events Tell us about your team, what you do, if you have Ubuntu members in your team, your current projects. Guideline of what you plan on doing in the future And any meeting logs if available. Teams will still remain verified this is just to check in and see how things are doing, If you can’t make a meeting, it can be done over email/Bugs. Lindsay -- ubuntu-au mailing list ubuntu-au@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-au Good afternoon, Sorry to hear about the problems your friend is having. I personally am not able to offer technical support either, I just don't have enough time to make that work. However I do have a suggestion that may involve no money to at least see if it's going to work for her though. If you have a quick look at http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/create-a-usb-stick-on-ubuntu it will show a method to create a USB drive that your friend can boot off and try it out. If you look at step 6 in that how to you will also see a slider bar for how much information to store, my suggestion is to move that as far to the right as it allows. This means if your friend uses this they can store a little bit of data and it will be there when they reboot as well. That way it sort of feels a bit more like a normal computer rather than a Live USB. If you're keen on having someone come out for money my only real suggestion is to ask on the mailing list as I really don't know anyone in particular that would be perfect for it but a lot that might be able to do what you're looking for. Re: Ubuntu-AU - Team Meeting
Good afternoon all, Just to let everyone know I've added an agenda item to the meeting regarding re-approval. It will be coming up in the Saucy cycle so we need to start thinking about if we want to see re-approval or not. At our current level of activity I'd suggest we are unlikely to obtain re-approval. But I believe by mentioning it now if there are people who want to drive some local activity they can turn this around before the re-approval date. While that in itself doesn't help you, I did find that the main reason this happened was the the KVM device itself wouldn't always pass through the correct information for the peripherals to the computer systems. So the first thing I'd check is that the KVM is actually passing through the correct EDID information about the monitor to the Ubuntu system. There are plenty of guides out there to check and edit the EDID if needed, I did a quick search for Ubuntu EDID and got heaps of relevant results on the first page. For whatever reason some drivers are really heavily dependant on using this data to set up the screens correctly so that's probably where I'd start. The other thing to check is the model of the KVM itself, someone else out there on google may have already found a solution or work around. On 28 September 2012 18:04, Geoffrey Wilfred Combes gcomb...@bigpond.com wrote: As of today I am connecting successfully to 12.04 LTS via the new Telstra modem a Sierra AirCard 320U. The key to getting there was Jared Noriss's advice to obtain and install the latest Sierra driver for Ubuntu. He provided the website. The procedure I used to install the driver was given in my mailing dated 4 September. Hopefully this driver will be valid for future Ubuntu versions at least for some time. I had further problems (preventing connection) related to registering the modem. These were: 1. To register one must install the software provided on the modem in a Windows OS. Installation my old XP crashed halfway through the process preventing me from using the Windows connection manager. 2. The software was successfully installed on a Windows 7 laptop but registration could not be completed because the modem oscillated between search and ready to connect. This is not uncommon and it is thought that the modem is trying more than one band (it has three). 3. It is not possible to register using the previous user name (as I was doing). All of these problems were resolved by the Telstra (technical) consultant in the local Telstra shop. He carried out the registration on his laptop and, importantly at my request, kept my previous user name and so preserved my email address. The upside is that the new modem and its link to Telstra is much faster than my old modem. Fwd: Quantal- Ubuntu 12.10 Release party
Good evening all, It's that time in the cycle again, that's right, Release Time! As usual, if anyone is contemplating holding a release party now is the time to speak up so we can help you prepare for it if necessary. I've forwarded on the notice that was sent to the loco-contacts mailing list for your information. The basics are: * pick a time * pick a place * document it on the loco portal * email the list * attend and have fun with other local Ubuntu users It's that simple. I think we should aim to see if we can get one in all the major cities this release if we can, that would be awesome. As always, sing out if you have any questions. I will not be directly organising one myself this release to allow someone else to come along and have a turn up here in Brisbane while I am furiously studying. I'll do my best to come along as long as it's not on an assessment day. -- Forwarded message -- From: Laura Czajkowski la...@lczajkowski.com Date: 27 September 2012 19:23 Subject: Quantal- Ubuntu 12.10 Release party To: Ubuntu local community team (LoCo) contacts loco-conta...@lists.ubuntu.com The 12.10 release party event has been added to the loco team portal - If you'd like to add your team there that would be great! Telstra have told me that they have used Ubuntu but without clarification. Colin: the lsusb command in Terminal lists the modem as 'ID 0f3d:68aa Airprime, Incorporated'. One of the objections we may come across from time regarding getting people to migrate full time to Ubuntu is the inability of Word to open open source formats like ODT. A user that I helped with Ubuntu told me about this because a University system they were using actually prompted them if they wanted to open an odt document in word, and the conversion seemed to work perfectly. Good news, because odt documents should now be accessible to those with up to date Office 2007 and only a few clicks away for those with Office 2003. As far as a date for the event, would it be better to line up with school holidays again or something else? In Brisbane I was thinking we should alternate north and south side like the release parties. If we line up with the release parties then we should organise this on the north side. Is there anyone on the northside familiar with the Chermside library (http://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/facilities-recreation/libraries/opening-hours-locations/chermside-library/index.htm) that would be willing to check it out and possibly book the meeting room? Mid-Cycle Events
Good evening all, In January the Brisbane members got together for an InstallFest during the middle of the cycle for the 11.10 release cycle. We discussed that we would probably like to make this a regular occasion as an addition to the release parties. We also decided that the name InstallFest was a bit misleading and discouraged other users from attending. Therefore I propose we change the name to Ubuntu-AU Workshop, Ubuntu-AU Open Day or something similar and market it as something people can come to for help installing, general problems or just curious. I would also like to suggest that other locations join in on the action and create their own local events. So from what I can tell we need to do the following: * Decide what to call it * Organise co-ordinators and volunteers for each location wanting to participate * Create loco.u.c events * Organise a venue (we found public libraries had free meeting rooms that were great, we also decided to pick them as close to free parking and public transport as possible). * Market the events * Hold the events Thoughts, comments or questions anyone? -- Regards, Jared Norris JP(Qual) BBehSc(Psych) https://wiki.ubuntu.com/JaredNorris -- ubuntu-au mailing list ubuntu-au@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-au

Is there any need to optimise an install on SD or USB?
Good evening all, I'm going to be installing 12.04 on either an SD card or USB drive for use with a laptop, it has an inbuilt card reader so the SD card sounds pretty easy to carry around right about now. I have done a bunch of research on seeing if I need to optimise the install in any way, for example moving read/write intensive or swap partitions to the ram. Unfortunately a lot of the data I'm finding is all in the 2007- 2009 range and the only recent data I can find is arguments over if it's still required or not. So has anyone had any experience or seen information that would help deciding if and if so what optimisations are still needed to be carried out? -- Regards, Jared Norris JP(Qual) BBehSc(Psych) https://wiki.ubuntu.com/JaredNorris -- ubuntu-au mailing list ubuntu-au@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-au

Fwd: Congrats to Egypt LoCo
Good morning all, I just came across an email to the loco-contacts mailing list that I thought I would like to share with you all. The Egyptian team have a real focus on getting real world events going and have created a very nicely laid out and easy to follow wiki application. I thought if people were trying to think of events to run, how to run them or just some general inspiration it might help to read over what they have accomplished. I believe our team does online events (meetings, Ubuntu User Days, Global Jams, etc) well but our next evolutionary step is to carry this into real world events to include more than just release parties (which are great, sign up some more!). Brisbane Release Party - Location?
Good evening, At the meeting last week we decided it was about time to start planning the release parties and the first point of business is the booking of a date, time venue. The main criteria for a successful venue are: * Fairly central * Accessible via public transport * Able to site 10 - 20 people comfortably * Accessible to minors The venue suggested at the meeting was the Kedron Park Hotel ( http://www.kedronparkhotel.com.au/index.html ) as it's fairly centrally located. There was a question of if this will be accessible to minors or not so I posed the question to the venue and their response was: We allow minors in the restaurant area so long as they are accompanied by a responsible adult ie a parent or guardian figure and not an older partner or sibling. The minor isn’t allowed to enter any area of the hotel that partakes in gaming, cannot approach the bar and naturally cannot consume alcohol. So long as there is a reasonable ratio of adult : minor there shouldn’t be an issue with licensing. Please let us know if there is any more information you require at this stage, or if you would like to make a booking. So I guess the next question - is it accessible for public transport? If you are thinking of attending and you usually use public transport please provide some feedback on how difficult this location would be to get to on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. -- Regards, Jared Norris JP(Qual) BBehSc(Psych) https://wiki.ubuntu.com/JaredNorris -- ubuntu-au mailing list ubuntu-au@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-au

Then upgraded to 11.10 and I really don't like Unity at all. I then switched to Kubuntu 11.10 and the interface while better than Unity, is still not as good as Ubuntu 10.04 What are my complaints ?? The philosophy that the computer should be a functional working tool - easy to use, fast in operation and requiring minimal resources. These ideals seem to be being abandoned and the 'graphic arty types' are taking over. Flashy interfaces ( which of course must be 'original' ) seem to be the go, causing bloat, slows down operations and demands more RAM and CPU power. For my part, I am not at all impressed by fancy interfaces - I want a machine which is minimal in presentation, quick in operation, easy to use, in other words totally utilitarian in design and presentation. The ideal interface in my opinion is that used by Apple; lots of drop down menus; icons which can be placed on the Desktop if required AND the tool bar with the sliding magnifier - truly brilliant !! Does any know of a simple window manager like that of Apple's which can be used to replace Unity - especially the sliding magnifier tool bar I would be quite happy to stay with 10.04 window manger but that will be phased out in the future. Does anyone else out there feel this ? Hope that this does not put too many noses out of joint. Cheers David Bowskill -- ubuntu-au mailing list ubuntu-au@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-au I'm sorry you don't like Unity, it seems to be very much a polarising topic. People either love it or hate it and it seems very evenly split. I personally like the Unity interface on any machine that can run it. The thing I like most about Ubuntu and other open source software in general is that there is a plethora of choice out there for you. As far as more gnome 2 like interfaces I would personally suggest Xubuntu or Lubuntu. Xubuntu is more a drop in gnome 2 look alike where as Lubuntu is more aimed at a really cut down interface and application set. For example if you have a P4 or older I'd highly recommend giving Lubuntu a try. I actually had a 1.6Ghz P4 Celeron M Laptop with 512MB ram as the main server for the installfest on the weekend in Brisbane. It started out as a Lubuntu laptop that I added the server packages to but anyone that was there could see that despite running the server applications on top of the desktop applications it was really snappy still. So my suggestion is to have a play with some of the other mature desktops and see what you like, let us know how it goes. -- Regards, Jared Norris JP(Qual) BBehSc(Psych) https://wiki.ubuntu.com/JaredNorris -- ubuntu-au mailing list ubuntu-au@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-au

Re: Brisbane Install Fest
So on another note, we're starting to get most things covered for this event. As far as I can see there are only a couple of requirements still to be fulfilled and we're set. I'm going to bring enough hardware for the actual network infrastructure (switch, server, wireless access point) but I don't have heaps of spare network cables. I have the ability to make some as I have a box of cat6 but I thought instead of spending an evening making up cables for a one off project that I'll never really have a use for again is there anyone coming along willing to provide 20 or so varying length network cables? They will be returned at the end of the day and I can even organise to pick them up and drop them off if you aren't able to attend the actual event. If anyone has access to USB 3g modems that they don't mind some data use on for the day that would also be useful. I have a telstra home network gateway I can use but it doesn't have a high data cap and I think if we start having a bunch of people use it it will get very slow very quickly. Light refreshments have been provided for by LibertySys (thanks Paul!) but if someone wants to get a bit excited and make some specifically Ubuntu themed cakes or biscuits go nuts. The Canonical conference pack and table cloths and banners have arrived so we'll be well adorned on the day combined with previous posters make up for last year's LCA. I'm pretty sure I can make the server work as a repository using http://popey.com/blog/2006/10/24/Creating_an_Ubuntu_repository_mirror_with_apt-mirror/ but it's the other magic I'm not sure of. -- Regards, Jared Norris JP(Qual) BBehSc(Psych) https://wiki.ubuntu.com/JaredNorris -- ubuntu-au mailing list ubuntu-au@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-au
Re: Brisbane Install Fest
Ok so I'm so exciting I spent new year's eve configuring the laptop. It's now a lamp server with dhcp and bind. I've told bind to steal archive.ubuntu.com and point it at the laptop where I can mount the USB drive and tah dah, it should work without having to tweak any new installs anywhere. In all the fiddling last night ( thought it would be good to resize and move the partition I had on the USB drive but didn't count on tripping over the usb cable and unplugging it mid move) I've somehow blown apart the partitioning on the USB drive to the point I'm going to format and redownload the repository. Should only take a day or two fingers crossed. So is there anything else I'm missing that might be useful on the day to set up? -- Regards, Jared Norris JP(Qual) BBehSc(Psych) https://wiki.ubuntu.com/JaredNorris -- ubuntu-au mailing list ubuntu-au@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-au

On 29 December 2011 08:38, Chris Robinson fabricat...@yahoo.com wrote: I don't know about setting up a local repository, but I'll see if I can work something out. It might be as simple as enabling the local drive as a valid source as you do for the install CD, but this doesn't get around the problem of updating the package lists. I'm not sure how that works. Yeah it sounds like a good idea but I don't know how useful it will actually be. Unfortunately it was someone else's idea, I just happened to implement the download the whole Ubuntu repository and set up a cron job to rsync every day part of it. There's currently over 200Mb of update downloads required for a typical Oneiric install. I do have a procedure for easily putting these on the target drive at install time so it gets around having to actually download them. (It's a script that you can run alongside the installer) This doesn't get around the need to update the package lists either. Even if we can't update the user's computer at the time of install I recommend we put the files on the target machine to improve the user experience when they get it home, with the warning that it's going to take 15 minutes or so to install all the updates which will have a performance hit. Regardless, I recommend installing without updating, or even with an internet connection present. This speeds things up _immensely_ and the updates can be done later even while the user is using the machine. Sounds great! I have a brand new 1.5Gb USB drive that can be used for backing up data if necessary. It's something I'm used to doing for PC customers for re-installs, including the mail files for Outlook, Express etc. Of course we need to ask before backing up, but most people will not have a problem with this. It's important to ask the question about data and backups before doing anything to a user's computer: In my experience people can have things like years of family photos on the hard drive that they've never bothered backing up, or in some cases have little idea of how to do it. Exactly. I have a spare stack of CDRs that I'd be willing to take along for people to burn to and keep just in case. If someone wants Ubuntu installed alongside Windows how are we going to handle this? I haven't done a lot of that, but my recollection is that it can take some time to defrag partitions and move them around, though defragging can speed up the move/resize quite a bit. If time is an issue we might have to be satisfied with a Wubi install, though that can benefit from defragging the Windows partition also. I haven't done anything to do with Windows outside using it at the work office in over 5 years so I'm a bit out of date and practice. I was hoping there'd be someone along who knew more than I but worst case scenario I was going to scour https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WindowsDualBoot for pertinent information. If you rsync the repos you don't have to worry about building the indexes and you can update only the bits which have changed since the initial sync. _ We're trying to update new installs. As far as I'm aware it's necessary to get the software indexes (apt-get update) so that apt-get (or update manage) can get only the required packages and their indexes. Good point though, if the indexes are part of the repositories, and they've been updated fully with rsync, then it might not be necessary to build the index at all - the apt-get system may just be able to use the indexes as is, at the point when they were last rsync'ed. We will just have to give the correct addresses to the various repositories. The command I use to download and subsequently update the repository is: rsync -vtlrh --stats --delete --exclude .~tmp~/ www.mirror.aarnet.edu.au::ubuntu /media/UbuntuAUReposito/Ubuntu/ Of course, I can rename the target directory at any stage if it will make our lives easier. This all sits on a 1tb USB hdd. Jarad? Please enlighten us. ;-) Did you get the indexes along with all those nice .deb packages? No idea, I'm a simple end user who knows enough to get himself into trouble and occasionally back out of it ;) If you've got the repo drives plugged into a network somewhere just add them to the software sources (and maybe turn off the normal main, universe, restricted, and multiverse) and give them a spin. Good morning, With the InstallFest just over 2 weeks away I thought I'd see if anyone had any better ideas about the technical side of it all. I have the ability to provide the following: * 48 port 10/100 cisco switch * home network gateway for internet (I'd probably only really suggest using it to connect to the aarnet mirrors as the library wifi is only for library members). * power cables and power boards * 2 desktop setups for people to come along and plug desktops in to install if they like (I'll bring monitors, keyboard and mice) * Install CDs and USBs * 10 random length network patch cables I also have an external USB hard drive that has a local copy of the entire Ubuntu repository. The only problem is that I haven't had the chance to get in and play with it so I don't have the technical capability of setting it up on a lan as a local repository. Brisbane InstallFest Update
Good morning all, Just a quick update to let you know I've gone ahead and requested some resources from Canonical for the InstallFest in January. We've been given a Conference Pack A as well as being able to secure the Approved LoCo Banner Tablecloth [0]. These resources will allow use to include small gifts for everyone installing Ubuntu on the day. To this end I've revised my poster [1] as well as including some feedback. Unless anyone objects I think we need to move focus from creating these posters to distributing them. Other members have added their own banners to the page [2] so fee free to print out whichever one suits your needs best and let's get promotiing. We don't want to be standing around talking to ourselves on the day so we need to spread the information as far and wide as possible. Looking at the pack my logic would indicate we could probably give out the pin badges to the first 20 people to install Ubuntu on the day and then after that work through the lanyards. I have NO idea how many people we'll have but I'm also proposing we raffle off the tshirts hats included along the lines of first prize of a tshirt and hat, second prize the tshirt, third prize the hat. Raffle entry would be limited to either anyone installing Ubuntu or anyone signing up to the team, I'm open to ideas here. These ideas aren't set in stone so I'm open to other thoughts that might help promote the team and Ubuntu better. I have updated the wiki planning page [3] and I will be sending emails out to the HUMBUG and Linux Australia mailing lists in the next day or two. If you know you're going to be available on the day please add yourself to the roster [4] and if you're bringing along some gear please let us know [5] (add more columns if you need to).
