A couple of things: Firstly, Godwins law not withstanding, MS is by no means comparable to the Nazi's. To attempt to do so belittles the horror that was the Nazi regime and only displays your ignorance. Secondly, there is an old saying "Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer". Do you honestly think this is going to be some SLUG/MS love in? That those who attend aren't going to be asking pointed questions about things such as the crap fest that was the OOXML process? Or about the so blatantly FUD force that is the MS claims of patent infringement? If you do, then mate, you are dreaming. -- James Purser <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part -- ubuntu-au mailing list ubuntu-au@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-au

That's the sort of thing the open source and linux communities are trying to foster as I understand it. Look at the licenses and oft you find you are free to repackage and sell the product so long as certain guidelines are met. Your statement smacks of "freedom for all! But not them as I don't like the way they do things!" Either freedom for all, or it's for none ;) James -- ubuntu-au mailing list ubuntu-au@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-au

Wow, Allowing M$ business and tech to be at a FLOSS event because you are trying to be open minded and accepting. I wonder if thats what Hitlers wife had to do. If this is not selling out I don't know what is. Feel free to flame while I feel free to /ignore. Count me out. This is no victory by any stretch of the imagination. At best, it's the beginning of a thawing of relations, but I'm even sceptical of that. That does not mean that we should not try. Openness is our strength - we should be leveraging that more. Interesting (though not surprising) that LUV has been approached as well. Is there anything that SLUG and LUV can do to collaborate on this? Apologies for the cross posting, but this is a topic that affects nearly everyone. Whilst I don't share the LUV President's belief that "..we've won, man, it's game over", I do think that it's interesting that they appear to have decided to hit two LUG's with rep's willing to receive both pointy and (hopefully not very many) pointless question within a short period of time. One of the many LUV ctte reps that are on the LA list can no doubt provide more information on how, what, when and where, but I agree with the rest of Sridhar's post, keep the questions intelligent, insightful and to the point, and try not to stray too far into explaining how you once had to reinstall cause "format c:\" was allowed to work, and why did they allow such a stupid thing in, it could have been fixed with a single change to line 4786 of the file Steve -- ubuntu-au mailing list ubuntu-au@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-au
