I should have checked the archives.

2010 = 13
All-time-high = 81

I read this post a couple of times and it seems to me that you are
complaining that there aren't enough people actively involved in the process
and then blaming the people who are bothered to get involved in the process
for being lazy?

You might want to rethink your position.

isn't that the standard outcome of the democratic process? (little
progress and lots of opinion.)

I don't understand the negative attitude to the meritocracy concept in
this group. Do something. If done well people will help and follow. If
done badly it will die or fork - in which case the process starts
again.

If I recall correctly, the number of members in 2010 quoted in the
notification that the AU-LoCo was not "re-endorsed" was something like
14. The all time high was what? 64?

64 people should be able to resolve the situation where there is a
single spokesperson and people who are doing good stuff can continue
to do good stuff. 18 people to represent 14 is kingdom building gone
mad.

How long do we want to hold up decisions. Are we just going to sit
here complaining about a voting system into the next year and have 0%
productivity or are we going to do something. I have noticed the
active participants are voting and the active members are the ones
that get the choice. If you are not an active member or you do not
wish to vote you will simply not be counted since you are not
participating. It is your choice.

Re: Team Appointment Process - Poll

2010-06-10 Thread Daniel Sobey
Hello Andrew,

We had a long discussion in the meeting on how we should move forward
and what we want.
If you were not able to attend the meeting the logs are available at
http://www.novarata.net/mootbot/ubuntu-au.log.20100608_0600.html

There was a fair bit of discussion on how to move forward.
We want to be democratic and allow everyone to have their say.
How best do you think we should do this?

I would not consider the poll that was created in the meeting as the
final and only decision, it is a step in the process. I would expect us
to decide on the direction with this poll and the further refine it
later on once we have a better idea on what everyone wants.
We need to build a consensus on what we want, so first decide on a model
and then work out details.

We do not know what the best way of collecting the popularity of each
model. I do not know how popular the results will be by next meeting.
I would encourage you to express your opinion and vote in the poll.

Hi All,

I have just compared the 2 polls, the official[1] that was opened
after the meeting last night and the new one started by Andrew
Gaydon[2].

My first question is why the 4 votes that on the poll created by
Andrew[2] have not voted on the official poll[1]? Starting a new poll
does not make you look very responsible and team players.

This looks to me as 'I am going to throw a patty and start my own poll
cause things are not going my way' and hence my question above.

I too am not voting on this poll as it already covered in the other
poll. And suggest to others to vote in the other poll[1] that was
talked about and cover in the last IRC meeting.

Re: Team Appointment Process - Poll

2010-06-10 Thread Andre Mangan
All these polls, whether they are for governance structures or IRC meeting
times are totally valueless unless the main body of Ubuntu users in
Australia come out of their hiding places and declare their wishes.

The current poll on governance registers the opinions of 18 Ubuntu users.
Hardly a representative sample and certainly not a valid nor acceptable vote
(as was the vote on IRC meeting times).

Reading the minutes of the last IRC meeting, I noticed the brave mention of
"should we revisit the time set aside for these meetings". There is no
point in asking the converted, you need to ask the 200+ registered ubuntu-au
members.

Elect a representative, a governor if the term pleases you, and let this
person drive the push to rejuvenating Ubuntu-au and ultimately
re-accreditation.

To those who seek refuge behind the voluntary nature of ubuntu-au and
therefore claim that they cannot exercise any authority, I would remind them
that many ubuntu-au users have signed the code of conduct and thereby have
placed themselves under the jurisdiction of the requirements of Launchpad
and Ubuntu.

"Laissez-faire" is just another term for administrative laziness.

Andre

This poll wasn't discussed or suggested at the meeting, therefore I'm
calling it "Andrew's personal poll" and ignoring it.
