[Bug 391945] Launchpad advice

2009-06-26 Thread jpcjackson
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 389322 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/389322

Dear Montel,

Thanks for your notes regarding Pidgin connectivity to Yahoo from the
Launchpad site.

You'll have to forgive me, not only am I new to Linux, but I also
don't know the protocol for the Launchpad site, or whether it is okay
to contact a member directly or instead post to the site. Perhaps you
can advise about that as well.

Anyway, I have two messages from you as follows:

1.
> You are not using the newest release of Ubuntu. There is a release fix
> for Pidgin on Jaunty, and others have confirmed that it does work
> after
> the fix.

2.
> Easy Peasy is really Ubuntu 8.10, I am sue that you know that. There

> indeed is worth it

Yes, I did know that Easy Peasy 1.1. is an Ubuntu 8.10 based distro.
My Asus 901 came with Xandros which I really didn't like, and I found
their repositories most unreliable. The two distros that appeared
tailored to the EEE PCs which I test drove via USB and did like were
Easy Peasy and Cruncheee. Both of course are not using the new Ubunbu
9.04. I guess I had assumed that I needed to look for a distro which
was optimized for the EEE. Cruncheee comes with few programs
installed (but an attractive interface). One can always add what you
would really use later, I suppose. Easy Peasy is more fully fleshed
out, but then it does have many things I will never use (games, for
example). Easy Peasy warns against upgrading to 9.04. I don't know
what Crunch Bang says about the issue.

Further confusing to me is that everyone seems to have a later version
of Pidgin than is available to me. Mine is 2.5.2, but the Updater
shows it as the highest available to me on this Distro. A Pidgin
Security patch was just released, and it was after that that I was no
longer able to connect, so I'm not sure where my issue fits into the
larger Yahoo server picture.

From your second note, I gather that you are happy with Xubuntu 9.04,
and that everything seems to work as it is supposed to on an EEE. I
have to admit that I hadn't researched that yet. I'll start to do
that right now. (I have to get my "Linux" friend to help with
installations and all. I am competent of Windows and Macs which I
still own and use, but totally new to Linux.)

OK, It appears that you are running Jaunty so you may want to run the
update manager to check for updates for Pidgin. I have heard for other
users that the bug has been fixed. I do not use Pidgin i use Empathy but
by the mass ammount of comments that says it is fixed in #389322, i
think it is fixed :)

Hi,

Thanks for the notes. Yes, I noted that there is a fix for the new
Ubuntu, but I am currently using Easy Peasy 1.1 Distro which advises
not to upgrade the Ubuntu OS. Further confusing is that everyone
seems to have a later version of Pidgin than is available to me. Mine
is 2.5.2, but the Updater shows it as the highest available to me on
this Distro. A Security patch was just released, and it was after
that that I was no longer able to connect, so I'm not sure where my
issue fits into the larger Yahoo server picture. I am running an
Asus Netbook 901. I also considered the latest Cruncheee as a
potential Distro, although I suppose the same issues would apply.

In the meantime, while I wait until I have time to upgrade Ubuntu,
Pidgin has a link on their site that gives instructions on how to make
Pidgin update through Ubuntu's update packages. The patch must be re-
applied after upgrading Ubuntu, but seems to work just fine.

[Bug 392504] [NEW] Backport openbve 1.0.7.2 from karmic->jaunty

2009-06-26 Thread Paul Sladen
Public bug reported:

Incremental newer version of game/simulator engine with some bug fixes
and various new small features. Just-uploaded versions into karmic are:

  openbve 1.0.7.2-0ubuntu1
  openbve-data 1.0.7.2+dfsg-0ubuntu1

Note: the 'openbve-data' package is purely simulator/GUI engine-data
(translations/icon/etc). It is only a separate package because upstream
distribute it that way.

The actual default, shipped route+train *game data* is provided in other
bve-* packages, which do not have any updates yet.
