[Bug 128849] Re: flashplugin-nonfree won't install; please update flashplugin-nonfree with MD5 sum of latest Adobe Flash package

[Bug 128849] Re: flashplugin-nonfree won't install; please update flashplugin-nonfree with MD5 sum of latest Adobe Flash package
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 125986 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/125986 I also can confirm this on a laptop that previously worked fine with flash, but I tried gnash and after I went back to flash-nonfree this issue came up. :( And although both synaptic and the firefox auto plugin installer say that flash is installed.. it isn't. As workaround: Running the flashplayer-installer manually (taken from /var/cache/flashplugin-nonfree/install_flash_player_9_linux.tar.gz) and entering the installation directory "/usr/lib/firefox" seems to install it correctly for Firefox. -- flashplugin-nonfree won't install; please update flashplugin-nonfree with MD5 sum of latest Adobe Flash package https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/128849 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Backporters, which is a subscriber of a duplicate bug (via bug 125986). -- ubuntu-backports mailing list ubuntu-backports@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-backports
[Bug 128849] Re: flashplugin-nonfree won't install; please update flashplugin-nonfree with MD5 sum of latest Adobe Flash package
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 125986 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/125986 jorno, it happens because of Adobe licensing restrictions and uploading conventions. Also, the design of the flashplugin-nonfree-installer is perhaps overtly cautious; when it no longer gets the download it expected, it will refuse to continue. If we could convince Adobe to not reuse the same file name when uploading a new version, this approach would have more merit (albeit result in an older version of the player being installed, even if a newer version with security fixes were available). However, this old, closed bug report is not the place to discuss such things. Note also that this bug is marked as a duplicate, but in any event, you are commenting on the problem as it was in Feisty. If you are installing on a fresh system, I would assume you are installing Gutsy. For the record, the current open bug report for this issue in Gutsy seems to be bug 173890; however, that bug should only be used to discuss possible solutions at this point. It does contain some hints regarding workarounds if you urgently need one. -- flashplugin-nonfree won't install; please update flashplugin-nonfree with MD5 sum of latest Adobe Flash package https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/128849 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Backporters, which is a subscriber of a duplicate bug (via bug 125986). -- ubuntu-backports mailing list ubuntu-backports@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-backports
[Bug 128849] Re: flashplugin-nonfree won't install; please update flashplugin-nonfree with MD5 sum of latest Adobe Flash package
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 125986 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/125986 I can confirm this. I had this exact same problem a month back or so - but fixed it using a _ugly_ (imho) hack. Now I reinstalled another computer, and the same problem occurs. Download done. md5sum mismatch install_flash_player_9_linux.tar.gz The Flash plugin is NOT installed. This is a SERIOUS bug, and if this is the same problem as I experienced a month ago, then this is really serious. IF, on the other hand, this is a new bug of the exact same kind as last time - then there are something really wrong. How can this happen? And why does it happen, without beeing fixed right away? Ubuntu needs to sort things like these out, before expecting less experienced users to enjoy Ubuntu. For me, this is a huge pain in the ASS now.
