I,m using a dial-up connection using land line
I created the dialer by providing the ISP name and dial number in the
network connection wizard of Windows. That created the dialer. Now iI simply
open the dialer and clik connect. It asks for username and password (which
was also provided during making the connection). Providind that and clicking
does the job.

The ISO file on my HDD shows the size to be 715,592 KB.

Dear Friends

I couldn't yet solve the problem of creating a dialer in Ubuntu 8.04. Coulld
anyone help?

I have managed to download Ubuntu 8.10 using Windows XP. It is an ISO file.
Since it is too large for 1CD I transferred it to my external hard disk. How
do I install it? What will happen to an older version which is already
installed?

But please!  The fact remains that I couldn't even install Ubuntu from
the DVD I got from the Hardy Heron Party. It shows the first page
which says to chose and reboot. After reboot the original desktop is
back! I checked my DVD drive with another DVD and it works alright. My
PC's configuration:

Pentium IV  2.26 GHz  ! MB RAM
Present OS: Windows XP
Free Space in C: drive   7.47 GB

Can you please help?

আমার পক্ষ থেকেও সবাইকে ধন্যবাদ। কিন্তু দুঃখের বিষয় যে DVD টা পার্টি থেকে
নিয়ে এসেছিলাম সেটা থেকে উবুন্তু ইন্সটল করতে পারলাম না। ওটা কোনোভাবেই বুট
হয়না। আমি অন্য DVD চালিয়ে দেখেছি আমার ড্রাইভ ঠিক আছে। কেউ কি সাহায্য করতে
পারেন?

I'd request you and all other Ubuntu BD members to simply ignore such mails.
if you can guess it from the title simply delete it from there. Otherwise do
it as soon as you recognize the type. Even discussing such thing means
recognizing them which we definitely don't want to do.. If we maintain a
total silece on the matter,their 'enthusiasm' will eventually die out. In
German language this is called 'tot schweigen'  i.e. to let a matter die by
maintaining a total silence about it.

Please think on the matter.

I followed the instructions from Tarin.  But now I get  the message "An
error has occured". Clicking the "Detail" arrow shows the text "connect:

I edited the /etc/wvdial.conf file as per Omi's instruction. Closing the
file does not allow me to use the terminal again. So I saved and quit the
window. Typing wvdial gives the information that the modem is intialized but
then put three lines stating that the configuration file does not specify a
valid phone number, nor a valid username nor a valid password. I tried by
deleting the default <> signs around these info and also by including them
in quotes, always with the same result. I opened the /etc/wvdial.conf file
and found that the information are there alright. So where lies the problem
?

create a Dialer to connect to Agni Systems Ltd. for connecting to Internet
via a modem (US Robotics 52 kbps) ? Someone told me that it can't be done
from Gnome  I must use KDE. If that's so, how can I shift to KDE and what 's
the proceedure from there ?
