তবুও যা ভালো মনে করেন তা করেন। তাহলে আসেন আজকে একটা সময়ে আমরা বসি IRC তে, 
কে কি লিখব ঠিক করি।

হ্যালো সবাই,

OMGUbuntu.co.uk উবুন্টু বেজড বিশের সবচেয়ে জনপ্রিয় সাইট, এইটা কি বাংলায় করা 
যায? মানে রিভিউ, হ্যাক , টিপস কালেকশন সাথে সুন্দর একটা ডিজাইন এমন কিছু। সাইট 
তৈরী এবং মেন্টেন করা বিষয় না, আমি আছি, মাসনুন ভাই আছে। অন্য অনেকেই কাজটা 
পারবে। প্রধান কথা হল রাইটার পাওয়া। এমন না যে, সেইটাকে ফ্রী ই হতে হবে। আর্স 
টেকনিকার মত পেইড কিছু সুবিধা দেওয়া যায়, আবার বিজ্ঞাপন থেকেও টাকা পাওয়া 
যাবে, লেখককে টাকা দেয়া যেতে পারে। (কারণ, ফ্রী হলে কেউ ইনিশিয়েটিভ পাবে না) 
। প্রথমে না হয় আমরা সবাই চাঁদা তুলে কিছু জমা করে রাখলাম প্রতি পোস্টের ভিত্তিতে 
পোস্টার পাবে।


যাই হোক, মতামত জানাবেন।

I believe everyone heard the name of Hotot. It's one of the most beautiful
twitter client for Linux. Now Hotot needs to be translated to Bangla. I'm
really bad with translation , so my translation quality will not be good.

[Ubuntu-BD] Can't install bootloader

Hi,

I can't install ubuntu 12.04 on a lenovo G430 laptop (Core i5, 6GB RAM, 
AMD 5700M GPU) . I'm trying to install on 60 GB "/" without any swap.


It gets installed okay. But it can't install bootloader . It always 
fails with an warning "Can't install bootloader" . What to do?

I didn't know what it is. Just learnt it. It shifts the bits. For example
(in python shell):

আধরা প্রজেক্টগুলো বেশ বিশাল বিশাল ছিল, কিন্তু টিউটোরিয়াল লেখার কাজটা খুব
একটা বিশাল কিছু না। বরং হরহামেশা সবাই টিউটোরিয়াল লেখে। ফলে এই কাজটা সম্পন্ন
করা তুলনামূলকভাবে সহজ বলেই আমার ধারণা। তাছাড়া

ভিডিও টিউটোরিয়ালের বিষয়টা ভাল, এ নিয়ে এগুনো যায়। স্ক্রীণশটের দায়িত্ব একজন
নিলেই হবে। একই রকম স্ক্রীণশট নেয়া সম্ভব হবে তাহলে। একসময় ম্যাভেরিকের
টিউটোরিয়াল তৈরীর দায়িত্ব নিয়েছিলাম আমরা অনেকে, সেটি আলোর মুখ দেখেনি। এবারো
এমন কিছু হবে না তার নিশ্চয়তা কি ? কাজে নামলে তা শেষ করার বাসনা নিয়ে নামতে
হবে।

ব্যাপার হল, অনেকেই নতুন এবং আগেও কিছু জিনিষে এসেছে। একই জিনিষ বার বার শুনতে 
তো কারো ভালো লাগে না। লিস্ট, কমিউনিটিতে মানুষকে আগ্রহী করে তুলতে হলে এই 
পুরানো কথা বাদ দিয়ে নতুন ইনিশিয়েটিভ নিতে হবে যাতে সবাই আগ্রহী হয়।


আজ থেকে প্রায় ৩ বছর আগে বন্টু মিন্টুর আড্ডাতে (ভুল হতে পারে, ২ বছর মনে হয়) কি 
অসাধারণ দর্শক সমাগম হয়েছিল মনে আছে, পরে আর এমন হয় নাই কারণ ঐখানে মানুষ নতুন 
কিছু পেয়েছিল, পরে যেখানেই গিয়েছে তাতে একই জিনিষ বার বার দেখছে। আর কতদিন 
মানুষ এক জিনিষ ঘুরায় ফিরায় দেখবে?


তাই আর কি, নতুনভাবে চিন্তা করা যায়। ফেইল করতে পারে, তবে তাতেই বা কি? 
পরিবর্তন সবসময়েই একটু কঠিন।

আচ্ছা , ওয়ার্কশপ , মিটিং, জ্যাম, সমাবেশ সবেতেই একই জিনিষ বারবার হয়ে যাচ্ছে 
না? পেয়ার প্রোগ্রামিং বা লিনাক্সে কেমন করে জিসিসি / জিডিবি/ জিপ্লাসপ্লাস 
ব্যবহার করা যায় এইটা দেখানো যায় না ? অথবা বাগ ফিক্সিং ফেস্ট করা যায়। সবাই 
এক হয়ে বসে কোন একটা অ্যাপ্লিকেশন এর বাগ ফিক্স করা যায়।


অথবা সবাই মিলে কোলাবোরেশন করে একটা প্রোগ্রাম তৈরীর কাজে হাত দেয়া যায়। 
আইডিয়াটা হল, মানুষকে বুঝানো যে লিনাক্সে কেমন করে প্রোগ্রামিং শুরু করতে হবে।


আমার মনে হয় কাজটা করা গেলে ভালো হবে।

In ruby, we use various test over debugging. Cucumber, Shoulda, 
Test::Unit etc. I've never really used any debugger at all :(

DDD is a good frontend for gdb. http://www.gnu.org/software/ddd/

OT: SublimeText2 is not released yet, and it is a closed source
project. It'll also cost money when it is released. I hope it will not
die like textmate. TextMate is a great example of why closed-source
projects are risky to use. It only lived a couple of years, while vim,
emacs are there for forever, improving every now and then.


Textmate 2 is in development AFAIK. And Sublime 2 dev is VERY active 
releasing 13~15 builds per month.

Yes that's why I don't want to use IDE. After I learn a language, I 
might want to shift to an IDE to get a productivity boost, but not 
before that.

I use sublime text (Textmate clone ) and seem to really love it. The 
idea is to sticking to a text editor and utilize the debugging facility, 
in a crisp way :)


I don't code in C/CPP . Varsity projects are too small to code on an 
IDE  IMO :-)


How is visual studio 2010 , just asking.

উবুন্টু গ্লোবাল জ্যাম একটি কমিউনিটিকে ছুটির দিনে একত্রিকরনের একটি
প্রচেষ্টা। এটি সমগ্র বিশ্বে একই সাথে পালন করা হয়। যা এবার ২রা মার্চ থেকে
৪ঠা মার্চ পর্যন্ত সমগ্র পৃথিবীতে একযোগে পালন করা হবে উদ্দেশ্য উবুন্টু কে
আরও সমৃদ্ধ করা।  এই লক্ষে উবুন্টু কমিউনটি থেকে কিছু টপিক দেওয়া হয়েছে।

যেমন:

- *Bugs* - finding, triaging and fixing bugs.
- *Testing* - testing the new release and reporting your feedback.
- *Upgrade* -oneiric→precise and lucid→precise reporting your upgrade
experience.
- *Documentation* - writing documentation about how to use Ubuntu and
how to join the community.
- *Translations* - translating Ubuntu and helping to make it available
in everyone's local language.
- *Packaging* - work on Ubuntu packages and improve them.
- *Other* - other types of contribution such as marketing, packaging,
advocacy etc.

আমার চিন্তা হল ২রা মার্চ শুক্র সবাই মিলে বসে নতুন আলফা টেস্ট করা। ৩রা
মার্চ যারা যারা পারি বসে গাইড লেখা এবং অনুবাদ করা (অবশ্য সবাই একসাথে




I wish I could debug some application in the meantime. But 
unfortunately, I have my mid term beginning from 4th March. So, I won't

Sorry for the late reply. Was busy.

No I checked those. Doesn't work. What is more strange is, now the 
problem is in my windows as well. I fixed that via using a soft called 
"MyCam" there (it's a virtual cam. You can orient the video and then 
display video through it)


But there is no MyCam like thing for linux :(

Hello,

I'm using an A4 Tech HU-800 headphone (USB) and it integrates with the 
ubuntu system very well. Only problem is, whenever I'm trying to play 
anything on youtube/vimeo the sound is coming through the laptop 
speaker. Not through USB.


Any fix on that? And yes, it's ubuntu 11.10 32 bit GNOME.

[Ubuntu-BD] Brightness issue

Hello,

On an Asus K40IJ , I can't adjust the brightness with "fn" keys. Have to 
do that using "sudo setpci -s 00:02.0 F4.B=xx" command. Using Ubuntu 
11.10 32 bit.


 Anyway to get the brightness control functioning properly?

Yes you're talking about Binary Blob. This is somewhat necessary to 
ensure the out-of-the-box experience the users seek. They care less 
about free and open source which doesn't get any real work done (most of 
the typical users have athreos wlan on their laptop whose driver is not 
open source). Several variants of BSD (OpenBSD is the one that I'm 
recalling ATM, but I'm pretty sure there are others) removes all sort of 
blobs , but this cost greatly on the hardware efficiency.

I'm using ubuntu 11.10 on Asus - K40IJ . I guess the problem has been 
discussed several times but I failed to come up with a solution.


The problem is pretty common. I'm hearing sound from both mic and laptop 
speaker. Any solution?

আপনি nVidia এর গ্রাফিকস কার্ড ড্রাইভার দিয়ে কোনদিনই Intel এর গ্রাফিকস চিপসেট 
চালাইতে পারবেন না। এর জন্য দোকানে গিয়ে একটা nVidia এর গ্রাফিকস কার্ড আগে কিনে 
আনতে হবে।

হয়েছে। না, আপগ্রেড করা লাগে নাই। এখানে লিখে দিচ্ছি, -

/etc/X11 এ গিয়ে xorg.conf , xorg.conf.backup আর xorg.conf.filesafe তিনটি ফাইল

একেবারেই অশোভন, শিষ্টাচারের লংঘন এবং স্বাভাবিক ভদ্রতা জ্ঞানের অভাব।

অনিরুদ্ধকে তোমার কাছে বাচ্চা মনে হতেই পারে। তবে সেটা জনসম্মুখে এভাবে লিখিত
আকারে প্রকাশ করলে সেটা তাচ্ছিল্য করার শামিল। আর সেক্ষেত্রে তোমার নিজের
বয়েসটাও বিবেচনা করে দেখতে হবে। এবং তুমি যেখানে আমার কথা/আচরনের সাথে ওকে
তুলনায় বসাচ্ছো সেটার ঠিক মিড লেভেলে বা মধ্যবর্তী বয়েসসারীতে তুমি ও পড়ে যাবে।

একটু কষ্ট করে স্প্রিন্টের ওয়েবসাইট থেকে ওই চিপসেটে তৈরী ওদের মডেমগুলোর
ড্রাইভার দেখে নাও তাহলেই আমার কথার রেফারেন্স পেয়ে যাবে। আর অনিরুদ্ধ
স্প্রিন্টের একই চিপসেট ব্যবহার বিষয়ের তথ্যটুকু ঠিকই বলেছে, তবে ও চিপসেট
ম্যানুফ্যাকচারার কর্তৃক চিপসেটটার লিনাক্স ড্রাইভার কেন তৈরী করা হয়নি বা

তুমি আমার আগের মেইলটাতে সময় করে ভালোভাবে চোখ বুলিয়ে নাও, বুঝে যাবে। নতুন
কোম্পানী সব প্লাটফর্মে সাপোর্ট করে এমন ডিভাইস মার্কেটে আনবে আর বর্তমান
বাজারে থাকা এই কোম্পানীগুলো কি তখন নিজের ব্যবসা বাঁচাবার পথ না খুঁজে ঐ
কোম্পানীর বাজার দখল করা শুধুই চেয়ে চেয়ে দেখবে?

তদুপরি আমার জানা মতে অনিরুদ্ধ আর মিনহাজুল হক শাওন এই দুইজন মিলে, বর্তমানে
সময়েই লিনাক্স ২.৬.৩৮ সংস্করনের পরবর্তী প্রায় কার্নেলেই বাংলালায়নের ইউএসবি
স্টিক মডেমটাকে কানেক্ট করাবার একটা সফল ব্যবস্থা করে রেখেছে। আর তারপরেও
বুঝতে অসুবিধা হলে একটু কষ্ট করে অনিরুদ্ধ/শাওনের সাথে এই বিষয়টা নিয়ে বিশদ
জানবার অভিপ্রায়ে যোগাযোগ করে নিয়ো।

একটা কথা মনে রেখো -- "জ্ঞানপিপাসু জিজ্ঞাসা করে আর বোকারা যুঝে পড়ে তর্কে।"

আপনার ইংরেজি জ্ঞান যে বড়ই সীমিত তা আর বলার অপেক্ষা থাকে না। Kid doesn't 
yap much কথাটিতে Kid শব্দটা veneration হিসাবে ব্যবহার হয়েছে , Derogation 
না। unlike you অবশ্য Derogatory , কারণ এইটা আর কোন গোপন কথা না যে আপনার 
কাজকর্ম আমাদের (আমার এবং সমমনা সকলের) হাসির উদ্রেক করে। আর কোথায় বলা আছে 
জনাব যে এই লিস্টে বাংলায় লিখতে হবে? আপনি যখন লিস্টে আপনার হাস্যকর বচন নিয়ে 
আসেন নাই, তখনও আমরা ইংরেজিই ব্যবহার করতাম এবং এতে আমরা কেউ ই ভাষা ভুলে যাই 
নাই। দয়া করে সব যায়গায় নিজের গৎ আউড়াবেন না।



তো জনাব জ্ঞানপিপাসু, আমি নাদান মানুষ, খুঁজে বের করতে সফল হতে পারি নাই। দয়া 
করে খুঁজে দিবেন কি আপনার অবসোলেট কথাটার রেফারেন্স? ও আরেকটা ব্যাপার, তারা তো 
ব্যবস্থা করেই রেখেছে, তাহলে অতিশীঘ্রই দূরীভুত হবে বললেন কেন? হয়ে তো গেছেই।

ভাই আমি তো php এর সাথে mysql ইউজ করতেছি না। আমার apache2 এর ও দরকার নাই। 
আমি রুবি, রেইলস এর সাথে webricks সার্ভার দিয়ে mysql ইউজ করছি। সবই ঠিক আছে। 
শুধু সিস্টেম স্টার্ট করার সময় আমাকে service mysqld start দিতে হচ্ছে। আমি চাচ্ছি 
কোন পদ্ধতি যাতে এই কমান্ড টা না দিতে হয়।



আশা করি বুঝতে পেরেছেন।

I installed myslq package on my distribution. And no , it is not 
starting on boot. I'm not dealing with xamp . I'm working with , 
webricks, rails & mysql

আশা করি সকলে ভালো আছেন। দেশে ধীরে ধীরে উবুন্টু এবং লিনাক্স মিন্ট
ব্যবহারকারীর সংখ্যা বেড়েই চলেছে। কিন্তু অত্যন্ত দুর্ভাগ্য হলেও সত্য

অনেকেই

উবুন্টু এবং এর কমিউনিটি নিয়ে কিছুই জানে না। তাই চিন্তা করছি কমিউনিটিতে
কন্ট্রিবিউশন নিয়ে নতুন ব্যবহারকারীদের জন্য কিছু করব। আপনারা কি বলেন?

যা চিন্তা করেছি

মেইলিং লিস্টের ব্যবহার,
IRC এর ব্যবহার,
অনুবাদ প্রকল্পতে কাজ করার উপায়

এই তিনটি জিনিশ মাথায় আছে। আর কিছু রাখা যায় কিনা একটু জানাবেন। আর কবে এবং
কোথায় করা যায় তাও জানালে খুশি হব।

আমার ইচ্ছা আগামী মাসের ৩০ তারিখ অর্থাৎ ৩০শে ডিসেম্বর ২০১১ ইং রোজ শুক্রবার
আয়োজনটি করার।
যেহেতু অন্যদের কাজ করা শিখাবো তাই বন্ধ জায়গায় করতে হবে। এজন্য আমার কিছু
জায়গা পছন্দ হয়েছে। এর মধ্যে একটি হল bdnews24 এর সেমিনার রুম। তাছাড়া কোন
ইউনিভার্সিটিতেও করা যায়। এ সম্পর্কে সকলের মতামত এবং সাহায্য কামনা করছি।

Why don't we ever arrange any programming seminar? Or at least 
demonstrate some procedure to get started in core linux development? 
GTK/QT or Kernel Development?


Why just translation, IRC or Documentation? Why not on the real deal? I 
can demonstrate various Ruby technique and why Linux is the best Ruby 
platform on that day (Ruby and Rails are my speciality) but , can't we 
collaborate on a project to introduce people with Linux development?

Masnun Bhai,

Well, if you can run Windows then you should be able to run Ubuntu. No matter 
what, Ubuntu is not heavier than windows. And give Fedora 16 (when it comes 
out) an honest go and see where it takes you to.

Netbeans is essential. But you can also develop with Vim (hehe, pun intended).

Anyway, KDE is bloated too these days. IMO 3.5 of KDE was better than 4.7. Who 
knows how KDE 5 will look like.

Hello,

 

I’ve woke up from the long hiatus. Decided to contribute here as much as I can 
just like the old time. In fact, posting something rather than ranting or short 
opinion after like 18 months. 

 

How do you like Ubuntu 11.10? What’s the thing you like most about it? What you 
seem not to ? How is it’s performance on your machine? Let’s discuss it . But 
mine first:

 

I run AMD Phoenome II X4 2.8 Ghz and ATI 6870 HD graphics. Setup Ubuntu 11.10 
on an OCZ Vertex 2 SSD and it boots on 4 sec. I’m not happy with the unity 
though. Looks like a mess.

 

What’s about you?

Opensuse's main strength lies within its IRC channel. And Mandriva is equally 
good. Not as vast as Ubuntu but you don't need to count a noob as the community 
member. 

 

At the end of the day, you will get benefited by the experienced ones. Speaking 
of experienced persons, both distros have them equally.

Actually I am planning to spend my money on windows 8. Windows 7 is already 2 
years old. Btw, thanks for the dreamspark suggestion. I shall look onto it. On 
a side note, do you own multiple copies of windows 7?

I had Fedora 15 but unfortunately my ATI 6870's Linux support is horrid. 
Oneiric runs it fine, so waiting for Fedora 16 to arrive for tasting Linux 
again.

Hmm,

 First of all, it is not possible for any alien process to access a
browser's saved password. Not at least if you do not use any homebrew
browser. Then , I think the malware phishes a user to login to an identical
website or get read & write permission. 

After all, we don't always read all those jargon about permission and try to
skip. It can happen mostly from porn site (Speaking from experience :P). 

Lastly, we'll never fully realize a virus mechanics. The moment we do, the
author will change the algorithm to keep it up to date with latest
loopholes.

Hello everyone,

I have not been very vocal lately. Time has come to break the silence and speak 
up.

Following Mouyoukh and Masnun bhai's mail a thought trickled my mind. I was 
wondering what might be the reasons behind the ranting (Yes I am not saying 
that one party attacks blindly when the other party just sits idle. Clap needs 
two hands to make a sound). Beside Masnun bhai's well constructed reasons, I 
find some more reasons which **might** have something to do with these constant 
flaming that's happening lately.


The issues being :

1. Dubious language. Really, no-one here is reluctant enough not to understand 
the shortcomings and cons of Linux that needs blatant praise by outlandish 
language. The blind outlandish language that often gets used is annoying enough 
let alone the tone. Often unreasoned allegory being brought up too (Someone 
brought up caretaker govt issue in this very topic).


2.Lack of tolerance is one of the main reasons this is happening. When we start 
something groundbreaking (namely, getting involved with FOSS here) we should be 
rational.


3.Lack of ubiquity. Back in early 2009 when Bangladeshi Linux groups counts 
only handful of few and knowledge was nurtured and youngsters were brought up, 
everyone had a surreal sense of ubiquity. That is truly and surely, gone. 


4.No moderation at all. I know there had been mishap. But the way moderators 
let go off any rules and regulation is saddening, truth be told. If someone is 
busy, there could be a stop gap solution.


5.Putting up unnecessary data is very **disgusting** . We really do not want to 
know whose language skill is in which level or who is the member of where. That 
looks more like hefty self endorsement than a nifty signature. Churns gets 
included on a cosy mail every now and then in this list that those need not 
mentioning. We all should learn how to deliver concise, sharp speech.


6.Last but not the least, there is acute lack of unified goal. One starts an 
organization , one starts criticizing, one dubbed one as "procrastinator" 
 List goes on.. Where is it ultimately heading? Nowhere. Quite 
simply, in vain. The realization needs to be there that this is not the way our 
oldfather wanted us to be.

Vamoosing , ranting, swearing , cursing gets nobody to nowhere. The unity, 
peace and sense of reliability is crucial for a movement of this magnitude to 
be successful.

Let's discuss honestly what do we want, how can we achieve it and let's be 
unified. Godspeed.

A very well thought email by Shahriar vai.



First of all, I appreciate the events organized by FOSSBD. Something is

better than nothing.

But the events organized by FOSSBD are actually much better than just

"something". They're doing pretty good. The only point they are lacking is

public relations.



I am not against FOSSBD, no one else is. If we were not Linux enthusiasts,

we would not stay subscribed to this mailing list so long. We all are on the

same boat. When an email comes to the group inviting to an event or

summarizing the achievements of an event, questions may come. In fact those

emails are sent to the group to interact with the members of the group. We

shouldn't always expect praise and appreciation. We should accept

**constructive** criticism as well. If you want to promote an event through

a public mailing list, you should have the courtesy as well.



I am probably the person who has written most emails with questions and

criticism. I have been vocal against the price issues, news mismatch,

slogans etc. I have never flamed blindly, I have tried to provide some

alternatives as well. But looks like the criticisms are not being accepted

well. My queries are being replied with offense, being taken as aggressive

gestures. Personal attacks follow. The worst thing I notice is the attitude

-- "I am doing it all, so you can't criticize me or my work". I have

appreciated the installation booth, I have called the revised pricing scheme

fair but people are still not convinced.



Constant flaming has become a regular phenomenon in the mailing list. I have

identified a few reasons :-



-- Personal disliking and disputes



-- Lack of openness (people don't want to admit that they are wrong, I will

never say I made a mistake)



-- Thinking others stupid and less knowledgeable or effective (I have been

told to **study** several times as if I didn't know anything, I have been

blamed inactive once)



-- No explicit guidelines and moderation from Ubuntu BD team. We know Shabab

vai once started an initiative of small signatures, still we see some people

don't give a damn to those.





There are several other issues. But it is obvious that these flamings are

not going to take us anywhere. I am requesting the moderator

You have to manually compile PAE kernel. Extremely buggy  and unstable. Not
worth it IMO.

At the beginning, Apro was the den of many linux enthusiasts. I would rather
it remained on Apro. Add contents to this topic. It's very simple, write a
blog post or something and then notify the Apro mods, they shall add a link.

Khek =)) =)) Rolling on floor, yes literally.


Buying a new PC? Investing 40k? PLEASE invest 5k more. Or go learn some 
programming or artwork designing for applying to MSDN.


And if you can buy a windows 7 for 5k ONLY, then you need nothing more. EVERY , 
I repeat E-V-E-R-Y useful Linux app runs on windows. And usually there are 
windows only freewares which are pretty good.


Consider the 5k as a lifetime investment. And yes, there are bank loan system. 
You might consider getting a micro credit, if U don't have any estate to loan 
against. (Ah, last couple of lines were witty sarcasm. pun intended :P)


Don't just get flooded with literature brav. You have a gray matter, no?
