[ubuntu-art] New member/ Gutsy wallpaper observation.
Hi all. I joined because I was not sure if the ubuntu art team was aware of the commotion regarding the gutsy default wallpaper. The main complaints are: -It's too dark -Grainy -Looks too much like Vista http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=555477 For fun I stuck it on gnomelook to see how it would be rated. It's only been on the site for ~1hr and it's rated very low. http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Gutsy+Default?content=66683 When comparing what was posted at ubuntuforums and the original design on the wiki page it seems to have gotten darker. Maybe we should consider going with the original brightness and a higher quality (less grainy) picture. I'd really like to become an active part of this team. I made a mistake as well. All the references are using name. Only test utilities in hildon-desktop use file path directly. So it should be using icons in icons folder. So no issue here. As pointed out above, icons in theme folder are a copy of those in icons folder. So icons in icon folder should be able to be removed. I made a test today and it seems work fine. But I'm not sure 100% because current flash UI desktop doesn't use those icons at all. 2. Who knows how to set background on the fly in current hildon-desktop? Currently, the background pic and accompanying desktop file are stored in /usr/share/background. But I don't know how to set it on the fly. There's a dbus method for it and I believe hildon-desktop knows how to, so you could grep through the source there. Thanks. I'll try after vacation. [...] 4. In the normal desktop, gnome-settings-daemon is responsible for applying the settings, so you could take a look at exactly how it is doing it? Do it after vacation. [ubuntu-in] unable to install ubunt 7.04 on my system
Hello everyone , Iam unable to install ubunt 7.04 on my system @ home. System configuration: P4, 256MB RAM, 1.7GHz I was able to install only ubuntu 5.10 which does not use the live CD for installation. It is explicitly an installation CD. When i boot from ubuntu 7.04 CD, it takes a very long time to reach the screen where i can find an icon which can be double clicked to install ubuntu. But when i double click on that and wait for more than 10 minutes, the next screen will not appear. *Please let me know if there is any other way by which i can install ubuntu (With out actually doubleclicking that icon).* ** *Iam very much interested to install ubuntu ,,,... Hi, Is anyone using the latest version of ubuntu. If so, did you have a problem with the root account after getting yesterdays updates. I notice I can no longer login as root after getting those updates. Hi, I had someone look at the screen. After getting yesterdays updates, it nows says administrator can't login from this screen. They must have changed something. I use orca in the root account at times. Does anyone know how to login as root now that things have changed. X-Antivirus: avast! root problem solved.
Hi, incase anyone else has this problem, here is what I found. I had someone look at the login window, and there was a box to check for admin login. Every time I try to use the login window settings it locks up. I must have unchecked that box. Anyway the root account works, just timing that the problem started when it did. oi Paulinho, posso estar atrapalhando mais do que ajudando mas: quando um arquivo é criado ele recebe como dono (chown) o usuário corrente e como grupo (chgrp) o grupo preferencial deste usuário: certifique que PAULO e JOAO têm INFORMATICA como grupo preferencial No GNome: Sistemas-Administração-Usuários e Grupos 1) Escolha Joao: Propriedades-Pasta Avançado-Grupo Principal 2) Escolha Paulo: Propriedades-Pasta Avançado-Grupo Principal também acho que o tal umask pode ajudar. aqui: # umask 0022 (não sei o que o 1o zero significa, o resto é Read.Write.Execute) então os arquivos criados recebem a permissão 644 (666 AND (NOT 022)) com o usuário atual e seu GRUPO PREFERENCIAL. talvez o umask esteja correto mas como os grupos preferenciais dos usuários JOAO e PAULO podem ser os grupos JOAO e PAULO, um não consegue escrever no arquivo do outro. Abraço do Anderson Não há, em regra, método fácil para fazer com que os arquivos sejam salvos automaticamente em uma certa permissão. Visto, ainda, que os arquivos são salvos, em padrão, pelo grupo do usuário, ao menos que o grupo padrão para ambos seja o mesmo. O único hack que me vem à mente para contornar o problema seria criar um arquivo /usr/sbin/script.sh com comandos para alterar permissões de arquivos em uma determinada pasta e colocá-lo no crontab para ser periodicamente (talvez de 60 em 60 segundos) executado. e ae Anderson, eu estou pensando em migrar para o 7.04 por ter ser mostrado bem estável em meu desktop e resolver alguns problemas com a emulação via wine do remote do microsiga, visto que o remote pra linux só funciona em conectiva, mandriva e redhat. O meu maior problema é conseguir copiar todas as contas com senhas, pastas, etc sem ter que recriar tudo. Qualquer evolução eu comunico. Tirando o problema de segurança, procure por setuid/setguid que deve ser a solução do seu problema. Deu um problema parecido comigo quando atualizei pra gutsy e depois quis instalar o compiz-fusion pelo apt-get update. No Gutsy, o compiz vem por padrão, e eu estava seguindo uns tutoriais pela net que indicavam a inserção de novos repositórios no sources.list. Só tirei esses repositórios e tudo funcionou. Olá, Quando tento mudar as preferências para a fonte do sistema no GNOME (no Feisty), percebo que não consigo mudar o tamanho da fonte na opção Fontes de aplicações. Isso é válido para meu usuário atual, embora não seja para o root. Qualquer aplicação aberta como rood (via sudo, por exemplo) funciona com todas a configuração de fonte que especifiquei. Alguém sabe o que acontece? Acontece com mais alguém? O problema foi resolvido logo após o envio deste e-mail. A razão era que um arquivo de configuração ~/.gtkrc-2.0 gerado pelo KDE, da época em que eu o usava, ainda estava presente com outras configurações para fontes, fazendo com que as do GNOME fossem sobrescritas. Abraço do Anderson Não há, em regra, método fácil para fazer com que os arquivos sejam salvos automaticamente em uma certa permissão. Visto, ainda, que os arquivos são salvos, em padrão, pelo grupo do usuário, ao menos que o grupo padrão para ambos seja o mesmo. O único hack que me vem à mente para contornar o problema seria criar um arquivo /usr/sbin/script.sh com comandos para alterar permissões de arquivos em uma determinada pasta e colocá-lo no crontab para ser periodicamente (talvez de 60 em 60 segundos) executado. E ele vem com compiz instalado por default, e são os repositórios do Treviño pelo que me lembro. Quanto aos drivers de audio/video/DVD, vá em Aplicações – Adicionar/Remover – Outros – Ubuntu restricted extras, ele deve instalar os codecs que você precisa. Ferrou tudo e tive q reinstalar o ubuntu (fui pelo cd de instalacao do ascii, a 1a. vez era a versao desktop). Desisti dessa etapa e agora estou tentando configurar o Modem (Motorola 56bps). Peguei uns 2 pacotes... segui todo um How to de um site de linux baixei os pacotes descompactei... na hora de dar o make e makeinstal.. nao funcionou... editei os MAKEfiles... coloquei o caminho certo do diretorio pedido , e nada deram 2 erros ... Ja tentei ir pelo pppconfig (ou algo assim) e nao funcionou tb... a configuraçao do modem na aba de redes... tao pouco No muito o que consegui foi executar o sudo pon e ele nao fez nada aparentemente... Bom agora eu preciso doo modem pra poder fazer as demais atualizações pois estou sem speed, ou qq lan adsl , e bom ja viram. [Ubuntu-BR] Problemas na instalação do K3B
Saudações, Utilizo Ubuntu Feisty Fawn e Gnome. Instalei o k3b pelo gerenciador de pacotes Synaptic. No entanto ao abrir o k3b aparece a seguinte mensagem que indica um problema na instalação: O plugin Mp3 Audio Decoder não foi encontrado. O K3b não pôde carregar ou encontrar o plugin de decodificação de Mp3. Isto significa que você não será capaz de criar CDs de Áudio à partir de arquivos Mp3. Muitas distribuições Linux não incluem suporte a Mp3 por razões legais. Solução: Para habilitar o suporte a Mp3, por favor instale a biblioteca MAD para decodificação de Mp3 assim como o plugin do K3b MAD para decodificação de Mp3 (que já pode estar instalado mas desabilitado devido a falta da libmad). Pessoas, Utilizo meu Notebok Pavillion ZV5000 com 2 partições. 1 com Ubuntu e outra com RuwindowsXP. Tenho um roteadr wireless que comanda a festa. No Ruwindows o sinal chega fraquim (sempre very low ou low), mas chega... e funfa bunitim, já no Ubunto, necas necas. Ele não aceita o sinal fraco. E agora? [Ubuntu-BR] problema com internet parando
Olá a todos, estou com um problema muito chato no meu ubuntu! Praticamente todo download que eu faco, com firefox, wget, ou de atualizacao, o download para do nada, eh realmente chato e nao sei o que fazer! Por exemplo, pra instalar o amarok eu tive que dar um apt-get, dae ele baixava uns 20% e parava, dava o comando de novo, e mais uns 20% e parava! Pensei que poderia ser algum problema da minha net, mas descartei isso pq o pc do meu irmao com windows, isso nao ocorre, nem no meu quando eu uso o win (tenho instalado para trabalhar com c#) Se alguem soubesse como resolver isso, ou como achar o erro, seria de muita ajuda, pois é muito desagradavel! Hi everybody! I have been quiet for a long while and I am not quite back yet. Since April 2007, I have been in the process of buying a house with Bénédicte, my partner in life. The paperwork has been signed in mid-July. We immediately started working inside the house. By the beginning of August, we had moved in (we had to return the keys to our old apartment by then). Since then, we have managed to do a great deal, but work is not over yet. Pretty much all my free time goes into our house. This means I barely touch my computer anymore. To give you an idea of the situation, I have not completely finished unpacking my computer! This also means I am not available enough to organize anything at the moment. I will manage to spare some time to give a hand or participate on occasions, but I just do not have the time and energy to focus long enough on a project to get it moving. I am very sorry to be letting you down a bit like this, but this is a very special time in my life. Claws-mail и subject charset
Подскажите, плз, как в клаусе настроить charset для писем, у которых этот самый charset в subject не указан? А то сам-то клаус мне понравился, но я забыл еще лет десять назад, что такое битая кодировка, а тут на тебе - часть писем с крякозябами в теме. В Thunderbird отображает тему в той кодировке, которая установлена по-умолчанию. А такую настройку можно делать для каждой папки отдельно. В клаусе такой настройки я не нашел. приветствую. прошу помощи в настройке компа в качестве беспроводной точки доступа с wpa-psk. вообщем-то непонятно, как настроить карточку (Acorp WPCI-G+ PCI, 802.11b/g, чипсет - atheros), чтоб она понимала, что она master и что к ней должны цепляться, читал про hostap и искал инфу, но что-то не нашел ничего, что помогло бы (про dhcp, nat и т.д. вопросов нет)? Я установил версию Ubuntu 6.06, в которой, к нескрываемой моей радости, оказалась 7-ая версия X-сервера и впервые в истории на моём ПК появились и работали проприетарные драйвера к видеокарте. Но, как известно, аппетит приходит во время еды и я захотел, добавив в свой дистрибутив репозитории от 7.04 и обновить всё, естественно, предварительно заблокировав так нужную мне версию X.Org 7.0. Но меня ждало горькое разочарование, ибо команда sudo apt-get dist-upgrade игнорировала все блокировки и хотела удалить мои проприетарные драйвера и установить новую версию X.Org 7.2. Тогда я провёл небольшую рекогноцировку, и узнал, что в состав версии 6.10 входит версия X-сервера 7.1. 6.10 - это 7.04, но и уже не 6.06, а 7.1 - это не 7.2, поэтому я и решился обновляться до версии 6.10. Сегодня в полночь эта процедура была начата и, примерно, где-то к 15 часам была завершена, о чём меня уведомил значок на панели, напоминающий о том, что надо перезагрузить систему. Я промчал курсор мыши до этого значка быстрее, чем бегает олень, и нажал на него. Какого же было моё удивление, когда я обнаружил, что... X-сервер просто-напросто не запустился. :( Изначально я впал в панику и даже установил консольный браузер Lynx, чтобы с его помощью открыть свой почтовый ящик и проконсультироваться с вами, дорогие друзья. Но потом, немного поразмыслив, я направился в каталог /etc/X11/, где обнаружил файл xorg.conf.original-0, т. е. версия файла xorg.conf на момент установки ОС из коробки. Я заменил текущий файл этим, после чего всё заработало, ибо я сейчас пишу эти строки. :) Но резервную копию, скажем так, конфликтного файла я не забыл сделать, и сейчас, дорогие мои эксперты, я хочу предоставить его на ваше обозрение, чтобы вы могли вынести вердикт, почему всё-таки не загрузился графический сервер с этой версией файла. Не до конца пока, но уже что то работает... Оказалось, что шрифт просто был выбран тот, что не поддерживал utf8, поэтому русские символы отображались как прямоугольники. В .Xresources прописал для emacs использование нормального шрифта с поддержкой данной кодировки и многое встало на свои места. I have exactly the same problem. My setup: Xubuntu Gutsy with latest Updates Athlon 64 1,6 MHz, 1GB RAM /dev/md0 is a Raid5 with 3x250GB disks (2x SATA and 1 PATA) I'm not too experienced with Linux, the only idea I came up with was disabling the Splashscreen with the status bar to see what's going on. It loads some hardware drivers I think and then it's the same as netslayer described, its printing md: array md0 already has disks! over and over again. I'm also using a Dell Inspiron 1501 (AMD Turion 64x2) and have gotten the same problem. X seems to load fine, a brown screen appears, and then it waits. Occasionally, it will drop out to a black screen and flash some errors before repeating the process again. I'll try to reproduce and write the errors down by hand, but they flash by quickly. There are three lines of SQUASHFS Errors and a mention of Exporter.pm did not return a true value (I wasn't able to get the path followed). I'll try to get the rest of the error output. Because it's a new functionnality, it will not be added natively to your Ubuntu version but you'll be easily able to upgrade Ubuntu 7.10 once it's released in final stable version ( October 18th ). Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubiquity In Ubuntu Feisty and Gutsy, if one chooses Advanced options at the end of the install and specifies a partition to install GRUB in (instead of the MBR), GRUB still adds choices for all of the other OSes on the system. This makes little sense, as the primary reason for installing GRUB to a partition (instead of the MBR) is because one is using another bootloader (such as rEFIt in the case of my MacBook). As I am prompted to pick between all of these options on every boot, this can be quite annoying when I just want to install/use pre-release versions of Ubuntu in a separate partition. I'm getting the same problem with Ubuntu 7.10 Sep 20th daily alternative CD install (GUI CD was crashing post partitioning). Its on 0% and says setting the clock, then the system freezes and requires a hard reset. My hardware core2duo 6600 with Asus p5n32 SLI SE latest firmware. 2G RAM, trying to install on SATA.
