I'm using intrepid without scim installed and as of today I have the

The most irritating thing is the open/save dialogs. If I want to save a

appear as .jpg in my filesystem.

Re: [Bug 205287] Re: unable to upgrade package via gui distribution upgrade; error message package not in workable state, consider sending a bug report for it

2008-10-17 Thread Justen
Thank you for following up on this bug. Kudos to the developer in you.
Seriously, I don't think it's an issue anymore. I changed the
installation to an Ubuntu and also tried Xubuntu. Package upgrading
and dist-upgrade seems to work fine, though not sure if system wide
upgrade (via Synaptic) would bring the bug back (that was what I was
trying to do then). I sorta use the command line now anyway (apt-get
dist-upgrade etc.) but I think it works either way. As a point of
argument, I was transitioning between Xubuntu 7.10 and 8.04 then (when
8.04 just came out of RC/beta). Probably should be cleared up by
now... Anyways, thanks very much for asking.

Regards,
Justen Wong

[Bug 277709] Re: [Intrepid] Intel graphics card only runs with NoDRI option

2008-10-17 Thread Salze
Shall the missing debug symbols be reported as a bug on their own?

1.) Made sure apport is set to enabled
2.) Made sure NoTrapSignals is in xorg.conf
3.) Rebooted
4.) Reproduced crash
5.) No new file in /var/crash

I follow climatewarriors position that this bug should have a higher
importance set - and I think it maybe should even be set to complete,
since everything possible under the given circumstances has been done in
terms of providing information/logfiles.

Many users have this graphics card - and apparently it's not only one
model that is affected. The only chance of getting the install to run is
to use textmode. The only chance to log in after installation as a new
user is by editing a textfile two levels inside the hidden .kde
directory. I think this is not quite the Ubuntu way.

This is a big regression from having everything running flawless in
Hardy.

If it's not possible to get the bug fixed upstream then at least a
workaround for new user-installations/upgrades is needed, IMHO.

2008-10-17 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi daan-is-here,

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with
the latest development release of Ubuntu? (ISOs are available from
cdimage.ubuntu.com)

If it remains an issue, could you also attach a new /var/log/Xorg.0.log?
Thanks in advance.

The output of lspci -vvnn would also be worth having.

[Bug 284461] Re: After login, blank screen, keyb. not responding, mouse works

2008-10-17 Thread Pajari Räsänen
The black screen after logout is actually not simply black, but has a
sort of minimal flickering texture to it (it is indeed still a
graphical session going on, from which I have to drop into VT in order
to shut down the computer). That is, if you look closely enough.

I hope these descriptions can be of some help. Ubuntu's great, and
Intrepid is really promising in spite of the beta bugs, keep up the good
work!

[Bug 279800] Re: GStreamer update (7-Oct-2008, Intrepid) causes Banshee crash

2008-10-17 Thread Michael B. Trausch
Recently, Mono 2.0 was made available for Intrepid in a PPA, so I
decided to install it to see if I could get any more insight. It would
appear that the SIGABRT problem with Mono 1.9 in Intrepid was fixed,
yielding a far more useful crash output. I don't know if this will be
in any help, but since it just crashed in my terminal window, here is
the output:

Hi lafeuil,

Thanks for including an image to demonstrate the issue. Could you also please

from after reproducing this issue. If you've made any customizations to your
/etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

[Bug 278943] Re: Spellchecking doesn't work in Pidgin and Tomboy with LC_ALL=fr_CH.UTF8

2008-10-17 Thread Jonathan Ernst
Hi François, thanks for getting back to this regression.

After installing your new packages I have new symlinks fr.aff -
fr_FR.aff and fr.dic - fr_FR.dic but it still doesn't work. Maybe you
could rename fr_FR.* into fr.* and then have symlinks from fr_CH.*,
fr_FR.*, fr_LU.*, fr_CA.*, etc. to fr.* ?

[Bug 270467] Re: OpenOffice does not recognise Java VM

2008-10-17 Thread Paul
I think that:

Jaspers description of the bug matches the bug 249352

Chris description applies after the openoffice.org meta package is
installed, which is a work around (in my opinion, others seem to think
this is a solution) for bug 249352.

At least thats the way things worked for me with ubuntu 8.4.
