Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make

[Bug 376128] Re: ftdi_sio doesnt work propertly

2009-09-03 Thread tz
The selective update portion in the wiki apparently doesn't quite work - I
entered the information as it said and started aptitude. I also set a tic-mark
on the box in the main section.
Ah - the preferences text in the selective part doesn't work, at least not if
I just do a cut-paste and will prevent the tic box in the software sources not
to work.

I'm upgrading now and will report back after the update.

Thanks!

[Bug 423802] [NEW] recognition of daap shares after suspend

2009-09-03 Thread Boondoklife
Public bug reported:

I am running 9.04 and seem to have a problem getting banshee and other
apps to see daap shares after the laptop wakes up from a suspend. The
area affected seems to the auto connect portion as if I use rhythmbox to
manually connect it works fine but it can not auto detect the server
after a suspend.

Again The apps work fine untill I suspend and wake the laptop. When I do
that I have to reboot before it will see the shares automatically again.

I have tried the current release along with 1.5 and see the issue in
both, it is also prevalent when you use rhythmbox so I am not sure where
the issue is comming from.

[Bug 415424] Re: libcairo2-dbg CRC doesn't match symbol (I suspect this is more widespread)

2009-09-03 Thread Alex Bennee
Two cases:

1. Built from source (with pkg-create-dbgsyms installed). Installed my
locally built package with the locally built dbgsym ddeb:

sudo dpkg -i libcairo2-dbgsym_1.6.0-0ubuntu2_amd64.ddeb
libcairo2_1.6.0-0ubuntu2_amd64.deb

The CRCs didn't match leading me to raise #423748.

2. Installed from apt repo, with the libcairo2-dbgsym from the ddeb repo
and it worked fine.

As far as this bug is concerned I think it's fine with the ddeb provided
dbgsym packages (which I shall use in future). Once I have written a
script to check the debug images I'll see if there is a more general
problem and append that info to #423748.

[Bug 411723] Re: apport should let me save a report for later if the upload fails, or at least let me reuse a crash

2009-09-03 Thread Noel J. Bergman
John,

 unplugging the modem crashes linux

Was certainly broken in 2.6.31-5, but should be fixed by now. Is for

As for the 3G issues, I've had similar if not the same ones. We're
collaborating on #nm to resolve them. At the moment, and using the
NetworkManager trunk PPA, I can get past that ppp problem if I turn off
auto-connect.

Let's not re-purpose this closed apport bug for your networking issues.
I just want to let you know that the problem is being addressed, and

[Bug 423775] Re: Installer does not check if password is strong enough

2009-09-03 Thread Colin Watson
FWIW the security team said they were OK with this for the time being;
the problem is essentially that (a) very few utilities are available at
the point when we need to check this, e.g. not things like cracklib, (b)
in the graphical installer, UI constraints require that the password
strength be checked on the fly so it needs to be quick. Thus we ended up
with the current compromise.

[Bug 416333] Re: Invalid problem report contains cryptic error

Indeed, that's not intended; thanks for spotting.

Do you still know on which crash report you encountered this situation?
Unfortunately you didn't use ubuntu-bug to report this bug, this would

automatically).

It looks like some corrupted compressed core dump or something like
that. Would be nice to get a broken .crash file which reproduces this
behavior.

Thanks!

[Bug 296784] Re: NM 0.7 nm-applet crash when connecting to Enterprise WiFi

2009-09-03 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch
nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on
the crash report you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-
file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where
_my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

This is getting really frustrating.

again. (needless to say I use the analog ones. So no sound for me again :( )

Keep in mind this is _after_ I used a Windows notebook to find out how to
manually fix this.

I believe the root of the problem to be the fact Karmic does not see the SATA

The BIOS sees the 250GB drive as the first and bootable drive. This is the way
it is cabled, there is no tweaking happening in the BIOS to change order.
FreeDOS was installed along with a large FAT-32 extended partition to act as a
transfer drive. Karmic book partition is also on that very same drive along
with the swap partition.

[Bug 349229] Re: [RV350] system freeze randomly unless XAA used

2009-09-03 Thread MyName
Hi,

I tested the suggested package from xorg-edgers PPA:

xserver-xorg-video-ati - 1:6.12.99+git20090902.794ae743-0ubuntu0tormod

System freezes after seconds.

-

After restart I saved the Xorg.log. I think the log process was interrupted by
the freeze. The saved Xorg.log is NOT complete, but I will attach it too.

Re: [Bug 420363] Re: [eee 901][karmic]system freeze when toggling wifi while bluetooth disabled

2009-09-03 Thread El Toozero
apt-cache policy indicates I already have gnome-bluetooth, and that it is
the newest version. Hitting about on the bluetooth properties screen gives
me the matching version number as the gnome-bluetooth package, so I must
have assigned this bug incorrectly to bluez-gnome, can you please move it to
gnome-bluetooth?

Status in “bluez-gnome” package in Ubuntu: New

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: bluez-gnome

 $ lsb_release -rd
 Description:Ubuntu karmic (development branch)
 Release:9.10

 $ apt-cache policy bluez-gnome
 bluez-gnome:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 1.8-1ubuntu1
  Version table:
 1.8-1ubuntu1 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com karmic/universe Packages

bluetooth should detect adapter status correctly, wifi toggling should not
 freeze the system.

 Steps to reproduce:
With bluetooth enabled, disable, adapter goes down, status icon shows x,
 says disabled. OK
With bluetooth disabled, enable using gui, adapter goes up, status icon
still shows x, says unkown. NOT OK
While in unknown but functional status, use fn-f2 rfkill hotkey. OK
full system freeze, blank screen, only cursor shows, alt REISUB does
nothing, only holding power. NOT OK

bluetooth status when adapter is re-enabled is borked.

toggling rfkill while adapter is in borked state halts the system.

 please advise how to assist.

[Bug 415908] Re: Please merge pidgin 2.6.1-2 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2009-09-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package pidgin - 1:2.6.1-2ubuntu1

---
pidgin (1:2.6.1-2ubuntu1) karmic; urgency=low

  * Merge with Debian unstable (LP: #415908), remaining changes:
+ debian/prefs.xml: Update to set the notify plugin prefs
  /plugins/gtk/X11/notify/*, set /pidgin/plugins/loaded to load
the notify plugin and enable the standard logging options by default
+ 02_lpi.patch for LP integration. Add liblaunchpad-integration-dev to
  build-deps for this
+ 04_let_crasher_for_apport.patch to stop catching the SIGSEGV signal
  and let apport handle it
+ 05_default_to_irc_ubuntu_com.patch to set the default IRC
  server to irc.ubuntu.com
+ 10_docklet_default_off.patch for default behavior to have no
  notification area icon.
+ 11_buddy_list_really_show.patch to make it so that the buddy
list tries harder to appear. This fixes some issues with it
  not appearing.
+ 13_sounds_and_timers.patch which adjusts the time out for sounds
to be 15 seconds, which helps get fewer spurious login
  notifications on slow connections.
+ 60_1024x600_gtk*.c.patch: Add scrollbars into preferences and
  pounce dialogs
+ debian/libpurple0.symbols: Add epochs
+ Drop libpurple0 dependency from libpurple-bin
+ Drop pidgin-data dependency from libpurple0
  * Refresh 13_sounds_and_timers.patch: partly applied upstream
  * Update 60_1024x600_gtkprefs.c.patch: add scrollbars to additional tabs
  * Drop 60_1024x600_gtkaccount.c.patch, 99_autoreconf.patch:
not needed anymore
  * Drop 73_upstream_change_fix_high_dpi_status_msg.patch: applied upstream
  * Remove libgnt symbols from debian/libpurple0.symbols

As for the 3G issues, I've had similar if not the same ones. We're
collaborating on #nm to resolve them. At the moment, and using the
NetworkManager trunk PPA, I can get past that ppp problem if I turn off
 auto-connect.

Let's not re-purpose this closed apport bug for your networking issues.
I just want to let you know that the problem is being addressed, and
invite you to participate if you still have the problem.

thank you, I appreciate it. My report was a bit of a rant :)

ubuntu-bug was _trying_ to upload the crash when I pointed it at
/var/crash/whateveritwas, but failing. I now assume it was because of
a corrupted crash file, due to concurrent kernel issues at the time of
trying to report the bug.

I got another oops last night with my modem, but no crash report. I'll
follow up in the appropriate place when/if I get something new...

Again, thanks.
