[Bug 565613] Re: Linksys WUSB54G wireless adapter not working in Ubuntu 10.04
Hello Carlos. How fresh was your first fresh installation? If it was an upgrade from Karmic it could have been using the Karmic drivers which Adrien reports worked very well. It your experience truly did show that it worked from the installation kernel and failed with the installed kernel that might be an important clue in narrowing down this bug. I sometimes have troubles with wifi of my own hardware and others who I help at user groups from time to time so I know how frustrating it can be to see it work with Windows and not work with Linux. This is one of those nasty cases that can use all the help it can get so a fix can be found for all possible cases of slightly different hardware. I talked to Adrien Lamothe on Sunday at a LUG meeting. I insisted we try plugging his USB adapter into my Lucid laptop running linux- image-2.6.32-23-generic (2.6.32-23.37) kernel that has the linux- firmware-nonfree 1.8 installed on it already. It failed to recognize or show up with sudo lsusb -v for some reason. My guess is this was due to several suspend and resume events. I have no problems with other USB devices on this laptop but without the hardware here I can't troubleshoot further. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linksys says that only v.4 WUSB54G adapters use the Ralink 2500 chipset. As I recall Adrien said his uses a different one. I hope he responds with more details about how it appears to the kernel under 9.10. I believe the WUSB54G is a widely sold Linksys adapter model that has been manufactured using several different chipsets over time, each needing different firmware. When looking closely at Adrien's this weekend we found no minor revision number on the hardware. Serial numbers might be needed to help track down this bug if linux-firmware-nonfree still doesn't fix it in all cases. Since Adrien has now downgraded back to 9.10 in part because of this 10.04 bug it would be helpful if other people can take the time to provide the details that Brian and Jeremy need to help isolate this bug. -- Linksys WUSB54G wireless adapter not working in Ubuntu 10.04 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/565613 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 562913] Re: NFS4 acl ops do not work with standard kernel
I've been struggling with this issue for a couple of months as well. I used to solve it by patching and recompiling the kernel. See here for more details: http://linux-nfs.org/pipermail/nfsv4/2009-November/011643.html The issue has been fixed in vanilla kernel from 2.6.33.2. [Bug 576001] Re: kernel 2.6.32-32 makes machine hang during boot
I did a clean install using the x64 version of Lucid, kernel 2.6.32-31. The only thing I did before upgrading to the new kernel (2.6.32-32) was build the drivers for my RAID card (Highpoint Technologies RocketRAID 2640x1) and added an entry to fstab to mount the array on boot. It's now sitting at the same thing it was in the original bug report: fsck /dev/sda1 clean... I booted into the previous kernel and commented out the fstab entry for my RAID array and rebooted into the new kernel. I was met with a logon prompt, as expected. I hooked up an external USB hard drive to the machine, added an entry to fstab and rebooted. It came up fine. Disconnected the USB drive and rebooted, it hung again. I tried rebooting into the previous kernel with the drive disconnected and it hung at fsck /dev/sda1 clean.. until I hit s then it continued to boot and came up as normal. Booted into the new kernel and hit s even though it was just sitting at a blinking cursor, and arrived at a logon prompt. Did the same after uncommenting the RAID volume, same thing happened. After hitting s, I got skipping /array at user's request that device is set to be mounted on /array in fstab. My guess is that it's not showing the press s to skip, etc if is cannot find a device listed in fstab. It sounds like there is something causing the OS to not display if there is an entry in fstab, but the disk doesn't exist. There was a thread about a similar thing happening on Ubuntu desktop, except they were prompted to hit s or m http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1520413 Also, I just wanted to note: I went thru many, kernel upgrades on Karmic without having to comment out the fstab entry in order for the machine to boot. All I needed to do was build the drivers after I booted into the new kernel and then reboot and all was well. I hope this helps; it sounds like the -server kernel handles mounting fstab differently somehow. [Bug 600087] [NEW] NetHack QT leaves /var/games/nethack/perm_lock around
Public bug reported: This is a right pain. For some reason (heh :-) both my kids love NetHack, but *boy* do they go ballistic when they click the icon and nothing happens. Investigation shows that it's moaning about /var/games/nethack/perm being locked, but it provides no facility (that I can see) to remove the lock. The user that they are running at *can't* remove the lock, but the whole thing smacks of crappy design. There's a bug somewhere if the file needs to be locked in that way without any way to override it when $WHATEVER happens that they do. I've quizzed themabout how it happens and it doesn't seem like they're doing anything particularly wierd. They just get killed, go through their possessions, and the window closes - but then they can't start the next game in the addiction!!! I'd script something around it for myself, but it seems likely it must also be a complete pain for $JOEPARENT who could not do that. At the very least it would be nice if the lock file could be cleaned out on boot, so that the three-finger-salution could work in such cases. Of course a fix so the lock couldn't get left lying around would be even better :-) Thanks, Andrew McMillan. [Bug 550850] Re: compiz exits with radeon error
I've just found a way to reproduce the issue on my system. I ran evince (the PDF viewer) on a file someone sent me, which produces a very wide window that fills the entire screen. The first time I ran this, compiz immediately died after this window went up. So I investigated. I logged out and back in, tried just running evince on this file. No crash. So logged out and back in, started four terminal windows (my usual), then evince, no crash. So started Firefox with my usual sixty or seventy tabs, then ran evince. No crash. But when I moved that window off the lower right corner of the screen (so that about 40% of it was on the screen, the rest offscreen), bam, compiz failed. I rebooted the system, logged in, started four terminals, checked dmesg (no relocation messages), started Firefox, ran evince on this file. No crash. Used the middle button in the window frame top to move it around and generally offscreen in the lower right corner. No crash. Let it sit there for a few seconds after releasing the middle button. Bam, crash! And there in dmesg were seven messages: [ 525.385000] [drm:radeon_cs_ioctl] *ERROR* Failed to parse relocation -12! [ 525.824032] [drm:radeon_cs_ioctl] *ERROR* Failed to parse relocation -12! [ 526.129675] [drm:radeon_cs_ioctl] *ERROR* Failed to parse relocation -12! I've attached the PDF file that triggers this behavior. This is on an HP dc5750 (AMD dualcore desktop, 5GB RAM, with Radeon graphics attached to 1980x1200 HP LP2465 screen). I'll attach dmesg | egrep drm|radeon output and X log. Sorry, my Fujitsu Lifebook A6110 actually has an Atheros Super AG wireless AR5001. It's using the athk driver. Is there any other information I can provide to help resolve the problem? [Bug 599834] Re: Ubuntu One does not sync
I'm sorry to hear Ubuntu One is not working properly for you. If you would like to help debug the problem that would be greatly appreciated. You can do the following in order to provide important details that will help determine the root cause of this issue. 1) Quit the Ubuntu One client. Open Applications-Accessories-Terminal, then run the command: u1sdtool -q 2) Run the following in the Terminal: mv ~/.cache/ubuntuone/log ~/.cache/ubuntuone/log_old mkdir ~/.cache/ubuntuone/log 3) Run the following in the Terminal to open/create this file: gedit ~/.config/ubuntuone/syncdaemon.conf #Add the following two (2) lines to this file and save: [logging] level = DEBUG 4) Run the following in the Terminal to start the ubuntu one deamon/service: u1sdtool -c 5) Let Ubuntu One run for a while, copy some files into your Ubuntu One Folder. Then attach your ubuntuone logs to this bug. Please zip your $HOME/.cache/ubuntuone/log/ folder and attach the zip here. You can attach logs to this bug report by clicking the 'Add Attachment or patch' button at the bottom of the page. [Bug 531069] Re: Display error when returning from sleep after docking
Alright. Testing locally, I can reproduce (2) with apparently 100% ease. Performing these steps: 1) Boot laptop in docking station, lid closed 2) Remove laptop from docking station 3) Open lid and wakeup laptop 4) Close lid and sleep 5) Place laptop in docking station 6) Wakeup with lid closed I get a turned-on, but blanked display on the external monitor; opening the laptop lid reveals the password prompt. Disabling the xrandr plugin from /apps/gnome_settings_daemon/plugins/xrandr/active removes this behaviour. The laptop wakes up in in clone mode, and the password prompt is visible. -- Display error when returning from sleep after docking https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/531069 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 599774] Re: Please sync bochs 2.4.5-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main).
This bug was fixed in the package bochs - 2.4.5-1 --- bochs (2.4.5-1) unstable; urgency=low * New upstream release. - Refresh patches. - debian/patches/patches/14_fix_gdbstubs_FTBFS.patch: Remove. * Do not use obsolete --enable-apic, --enable-cpu-level=6, --enable-x86-64, --enable-fpu, --enable-mmx, --enable-sse=4, --enable-sse-extension, --enable-xsave, --enable-sep, --enable-popcnt and --enable-movbe options. * Do not use incomplete --enable-3dnow option. * Improve tarball.sh to fix wrong permissions from upstream tarballs. * Improve cleanup to fix building twice in a row. * Use system ltdl.h. (Closes: #560884) - Remove all file dependencies on ltdl.h. - Run libtoolize and aclocal in configure target. - Add automake and libtool to Build-Depends. - Remove ltdl.c, ltdl.h, ltdlconf.h, ltmain.sh and aclocal.m4 on clean. - Remove references to ltdlconf.h. - Fix configure.in to use system AC_SYS_LARGEFILE instead of local one. * Fix binary-arch target to not require Build-Depends-Indep packages to be installed. (Closes: #562964) - Disable docbook support in configure so that it does not fail when we only want build-arch or binary-arch. - On build-indep build doc/docbook and pass DOCBOOK2HTML to it (because it's no longer set by configure). - On install-indep install doc/docbook, remove install target dependency, call dh_prep, and populate the debian/tmp directory. * Now using Standards-Version 3.8.4 (no changes needed). * Add a source lintian override for the architecture wildcard used in Build-Depends-Indep to allow cross-building the bios images. -- Bhavani Shankar bh...@ubuntu.com Tue, 08 Jun 2010 20:43:22 +0200 ** Changed in: bochs (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Committed = Fix Released -- Please sync bochs 2.4.5-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main). https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/599774 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 312756] Re: support graphics card hot switch
There is a hack to enable ONLY the discrete video card in ASUS ULXX-VT models, which might be applicable to some similar hardware here; Changing the SATA operation mode in BIOS from enhanced to compatible has the side effect of completely disabling the Intel card, and enabling the nVidia g210m card instead. Unfortunately this setting noticeably slows down times to boot and suspend/resume but hopefully it is a hint towards a solution that could be triggered from userspace I have tried to duplicate this effect, removing the intel device from the PCI bus, by means of the fake PCI hotplug driver: (with nomodeset kernel option) rmmod i915 modprobe fakephpecho 0 /sys/bus/pci/slots/\:00\:02.0/power modprobe nvidia-current Yet that still doesn't seem to allow the nvidia card to be used in X; information in Xorg.0.log looks almost the same as when specifying a BusID for the nvidia card (either approach shows the X server loading the nvidia drivers, but the nvidia card's PCI ID is listed as the Primary Device when it is the only card) Interestingly, the Intel video card comes back when sending a power-on signal to the _SATA controller_!: echo 1 /sys/bus/pci/slots/\:00\:1f.2/power Perhaps someone more familiar with the setpci command could suggest some similar functions to try? I have seen mention that it may be even possible to change the SATA mode via setpci: http://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-pci/msg08942.html -- support graphics card hot switch https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/312756 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
