If you click on a checkbox and it doesn't get selected, some sort of popup should appear saying this item cannot be selected for this and that reason. [Bug 930938] [NEW] Kinetic 2-finger scrolling no longer works after upgrade to 12.04
Public bug reported: I upgraded to 12.04 yesterday and just realised that kinetic 2-finger scrolling no longer works with my touchpad. Steps to reproduce: 1. Go to System Setting / Mouse and Touchpad 2. Click on the Touchpad tab 3. Set scrolling to Two Finger Scrolling 4. Close the settings 5. Open a document that requires scrolling (e.g. long web page in Firefox, long text file in Gedit, etc) 6. Scroll through the document using two fingers on the touchpad Expected behaviour When scrolling, the page should keep scrolling up or down when the fingers are taken off the touchpad and stop on its own. Actual behaviour Scrolling stops dead as soon as fingers are taken off the touchpad, making it quite cumbersome to scroll through long documents. Alternative expected behaviour Have an option to enable kinetic scrolling in the touchpad settings. Update on Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric) Hi there, just a quick update on screen brightness issue status, for the Vaio Y series. The problem seems related to gnome-power-manager intel 915 driver... Kamal Mostafa has released a path that should be already present in Ubuntu 11.10. I don't know if this due to the Kamal patch (but I think so), but now it is possible to control our (sony Y) brightness through: /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness Anyway, the gnome-power-manager links to /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/ in order to read/set backlight. Unfortunately, this control is completely void and does not produce any effect. A suggested workaround is to start linux with boot parameter: acpi_backlight=vendor This produce the desired effect: /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/ disappears, BUT the sony_laptop module, as does not found acpi support to brightness, takes in care brightness management creating its own sony brightness device... and yes, gnome-power-manager prefers it than our beloved intel_backlight. Unfortunately, we NEED sony_laptop module, because takes care of the fn keys bindings. So, two ways are available: 1) modify and recompile sony_laptop module in order to ignore brightness control + acpi_backlight=vendor on boot 2) The old and still pretty good acpi event management through custom scripts Solution 2 is easier and less intrusive, so I have updated the brightness scripts, in order to adopt the new brightness control interface and sync with the void acpi_video0 control when pressing brightness up and down keys. The install script is now a little smarter, doing checks in order to prevent installation where not needed. [Bug 930940] [NEW] Content of the report text area needs more vertical space
Public bug reported: When reporting a bug, the Apport window has a Content of the report text area that is not shown by default but can be opened. When opening this text area, the vertical space used is very small meaning that only two lines of text are visible at a time. This makes it difficult to read the content, let alone scroll through it. Steps to reproduce 1. Start Apport by typing ubuntu-bug some package or other in a terminal 2. When the Apport window appears, click on the triangle next to the Content of the report label to expand the box Expected behaviour When opening the text box, the box should expand vertically (and hence force the window to expand vertically too) so that more lines are visible at a time and scrolling within the text area is not impaired. Actual behaviour The text area opens with a very sort height meaning that it is very difficult to read the content and scroll through it. See the attached screenshot. You are right, /tmp was mounted as noexec and removing it fixes the problem. However I still think this is bug or at least new unwanted feature. [Bug 930942] [NEW] pulseaudio does not recognize my built in analog stereo and only finds hdmi audio stub
Public bug reported: pulseaudio issue regarding Ubuntu precise (development branch) i have to remove the .pulse folder and restart pulseaudio completely or it won't show my normal sound card. i have to repeat this procedure to get sound working. so it detects my soundcard but only if i reset it manually. [Bug 930947] [NEW] UI repreatedly not visible
Public bug reported: UI repreatedly not visible. Occurs on random log ins to Ubuntu. Despite closing and restarting the application, the UI will fail to appear until system is rebooted. It often works pefrectly, but sometimes on a ubuntu session, it simply wont appear :( I initially had it set as a startup application and thought that perhaps it was not showing the UI on boot, so i disabled the startup command, choosing to manually start the application as required - same issue. I also face this issue. I would expect the file chooser dialog to allow me to access network bookmarks (including mounting them if they are not mounted already). It's very annoying when you want to save a file on a network share from Firefox or Thunderbird : you have to save it locally, then transfer it with nautilus. I found the following workarounds : - mount permanently the network locations in /etc/fstab : it works, but is not adapted to all situations. In my case, the server that hosts the network share is a standard PC, not a 24/7 server. So, if this PC is not up at startup time, the share is not mounted - add a bookmark for ~/.gvfs directory, as suggested by smonff : it appears in the file chooser, but is empty if the share is not mounted. So you have to mount it before - add a bookmark for ~/.gvfs AND install/configure the package gigolo : this software can automatically mount network shares. If you declare it as a startup application, it will try to connect every minute. See http://www.borpin.co.uk/2011/03/29/map-network-drive-in-ubuntu-again/ . It's still a workaround but it's the best I found so far. In any case, it would be much much easier to be able to open/save directly in a network bookmark.
