Re: ppc images too big
During daily builds it is not uncommon for iso's to be over sized as they are automatically built each day. I noticed last night that xubuntu also commented that their daily had gone over size, so I think it is a generic thing. On the subject of over-sized images and booting from usb, they are both covered in the FAQ section [1]. GRUB version 1.99 and 12.10
Hi, http://i46.tinypic.com/345fybs.jpg I'm done with Lubuntu 12.10 32-bit installation (the daily build - 18-9-2012). Installation done on /dev/sda7. GRUB was installed on sda7 NOT the MBR of sda. This is an Asus F3F Laptop, Intel Due @1.86GHz with 512MB RAM. My guess is GRUB version 2 has different codes/scripts and the old one (GRUB 1.99) is still not familiar with it. I'm not sure which entry shall I choose? there are 3 entries instead of 2: *Ubuntu' --class ubuntu --class gun-linux --class gnu --class os etc **Ubuntu, with Linux 3.5.0-15-generic' --class ubuntu --class gnu-linux --class gnu --class os etc **Ubuntu, with Linux 3.5.0-15-generic (recovery mode )' --class ubuntu --class gnu-linux --class gnu --class os etc * The two entries in RED, if I'm not wrong, they both give me the same result and lead to the same road. I login to the desktop and everything is ok. So, why there are two? it should be one. I know we can edit the GRUB menu either manually or by another application (GRUB Customizer) but, by default, usually, there are two entries. Any idea what is exactly going on? Thanks! P.S. Perhaps I need to find another machine or maybe an USB Drive so I can test the new GRUB too where I can install GRUB version 2 to the MBR. -- *Best Regards, amjjawad* Lubuntu Support Team Co-ordinator Lubuntu Communication Team Administrator Lubuntu Social Networks (Fb G+) Pages and Groups Administrator LXDE Forum Site Administrator Lubuntu One Stop Thread http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1844755 My Wiki Page https://wiki.ubuntu.com/amjjawad | My Launchpadhttps://launchpad.net/%7Eamjjawad| My Ubuntu Forum Profile http://ubuntuforums.org/member.php?u=941822 ** -- Ubuntu-qa mailing list Ubuntu-qa@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-qa

Hi there David, Could you please specify whether you have upgraded from another graphics card to this one or is this a new build. Could you please specify your other components to are using, especially the motherboard. I have linux 12. 04 running on an ati 6670. I have also found that at first it refused to install the drivers for the gpu. I ended up reinstalling 12.04 with an alternative cd ( needed to use lvm). Could you try a live cd of normal 12. 04 ( with persistency) and see whether the driver installs. virtualbox
Hello, I am running Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit as the main OS. I have installed virtual box using software centre and checked all the additions during setup e.g. 32 bit kernel support and network ethernet driver. At the end of a virtualbox install I have just rebooted the machine to make sure everything is in its place. Then after the boot I have createda new machine in the virtualbox and I am currently trying to boot a daily live 32 bit image of ubuntu 12:10 inside it. The virtual machine launches I am even getting informative messages regarding direct mouse and keyboard capture but I am not getting that usual drum sounds coming from the guest OS. Is my install of virtualbox screwed or ubuntu 12.10 has changed something in this regard? I have also waited some 10 minutes in case and pressed ctrl+s without any audible difference. In the virtual machine settings window I have audio turned on and set to pulse. Any possible hints? Is anyone running 12.04 in virtualbox with sound output? oh btw on the host OS I can see vbox channel while looking into the pulseaudio volume control. hello, yes I have had problems with 12.10 in virtualbox for sound, https://launchpad.net/bugs/1016969 it is possible to get to the pulse audio dialog and change the device to one of the two LFE devices, I can try it again later and provide the exact key sequence to do so. I didn't tag that bug as an a11y bug because it is an audio totally broken for everyone bug rather than orca specific issue even though it does mean that Quantal is basically untestable in virtualbox for blind users. It does boot OK when testing on real hardware and you get the drums and ctrl+s starts orca as normal. Ubiquity has changed a bit but I can get all the way through it without cheating and turning my monitor on, I will do a full keystroke guide and audio/video at some point pre-release. Alan. Re: virtualbox
hello, yes I have had problems with 12.10 in virtualbox for sound, https://launchpad.net/bugs/1016969 it is possible to get to the pulse audio dialog and change the device to one of the two LFE devices, I can try it again later and provide the exact key sequence to do so. Alan. 12.10 Documentation String Freeze -- Sept. 25, 2012
Dear Documentation and Translation teams, Given some of the VERY late landing code with key features that impacts the IDEs for 12.10, holding to a documentation string freeze date [1] of 9/20 just doesn't make sense. To give enough window for getting the latest features in screen shots and documented, we'll be resetting the documentation deadline to next Tuesday 9/25 [3]. This is going to unfortunately cut down on the time available for translations [2]. To keep everyone efficient, David will send out an email tomorrow summarizing what is unlikely to change, and what translations should not start on until after the Documentation String Freeze[1] occurs. Thanks for your cooperation and patience as we work through this. Kate [1] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DocumentationStringFreeze [2] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/TranslationDeadline [3] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QuantalQuetzal/ReleaseSchedule -- ubuntu-translators mailing list ubuntu-translators@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-translators
breaking freezes and last minute-itus
Hi :) I think before making a request people need to consider whether their request is really so vital that it's worth delaying the release of the 12.10, and creating a lot more work for everyone. It's good to see people have such passion for their work that they are prepared to argue so strongly for their part in the huge project. However, would it really hurt for some of them to stand down for a month or so and then get their change into the 11.04? If they could wait a little then the quality of the way it's handled by subsequent processes would be increased. Consider how many news articles you read that are full of speculation about what might happen. Compare against the number of news articles that grab your attention about what happened a long time ago. Fro example, with film releases. Magazines have endless articles BEFORE a release giving tantalising glimpses of what might be in the film and the livesloves of actresses, actors and others involved in the film. After the film the articles drop-off fast and relate to boring stats about hoiw much money it made (or didn't) and how many people went to see it on opening night. Try finding an article in a new magazine about a film released say 1 or 2 months ago. No-one cares after the fact. At least not in a positive way. By rushing in at the last minute (or even later) you consign your work to the no-one cares anymore category before they have even seen it. MUCH better to deliberately hold back. LET articles slate how 'badly' you did your work in this release (chances are it wasn't erally sooo bad and might even appear quite good to people that haven't seen you new version). Then push your request at the beginning of the next cycle to let people work on showing it off. Make a press-release about it. Get people writing articles that talk about it or at least mention it. Write to anyone that you noticed grumbling so they have an excuse to get a new article published talking about the remarkable turn-around. It might seem exciting to you to get it in at the last minute but to everyone else it's a Pita and a bore. If your work is boring then sure, push it at the last minute instead of waiting for the next cycle. The questions for each person making a request (imo) are 1. is it worth delaying the release of Ubuntu and are you willing to help all the subsequent teams deal with side-issues such as checking translations in hundreds of languages? 2. is it so important that you don't care if no-one out in the world (outside the ubuntu teams) ever really notices the changes?
Hey guys, I'd like to have an IRC meeting to get an overview about everything, dipro's are starting again, and summer vacation is over. I probably won't be able to get there tomorrow, but if someone else wants to lead the meeting that doesn't have to be such a problem. If not, I propose we have one friday evening. What do you guys think of that? Keeping the meeting short I propose we just touch everything to see where the hickups are, we can then prioritize what we'll be talking about in depth in 14 days. Re: Samsung scx 340x
[Bug 1050492] [NEW] MAAS uses the 'guest' account to communicate with RabbitMQ
You have been subscribed to a public bug: None of the BROKER_* settings are defined in celeryconfig; that means that the 'guest' account is used by MAAS to send messages through RabbitMQ. [Bug 1052664] Re: hostname intermittently contains comment from cloud-init
This seems racey. Ben and I both report having sen this on server build of 20120919, but only intermittently. To add to the oddness, on 20120919 desktop (where it seems to reproduce more frequently), I moved /bin/hostname to /bin/hostname.real, then: $ cat /bin/hostname #!/bin/sh if [ $# -ne 0 ]; then { echo == pid=$$ ppid=$PPID JOB=$UPSTART_JOB: $* == cat /proc/$PPID/cmdline echo } /run/hostname.log 21 fi exec /bin/hostname.real $@ $ cat /run/hostname.log == pid=212 ppid=1 JOB=hostname: -b -F /etc/hostname == /sbin/init so during boot the only thing that called /bin/hostname was the upstart job 'hostname'. However, just running 'sudo hostname -b -F /etc/hostname' behaves correctly. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to cloud-init in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1052664 Title: hostname intermittently contains comment from cloud-init To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cloud-init/+bug/1052664/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1053020] [NEW] SRU: fix 1042758
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1042758 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1042758 Public bug reported: This is a SRU request for cloud-init to be updated in precise. Bug #1042758 prevents people using cloud-init and Landscape to automatically register instances: the configuration will be updated, but Landscape won't start, thus forcing people to either write additional code or manually go the instances. To reproduce the problem, create a cloud-init configuration with Landscape credentials: #cloud-config landscape: - account_name: $host_account - computer_title: Test instance - cloud: true Using the released version, the configuration will be written, but the client won't start and the instance won't register. With the fixed version, the client will start and register to Landscape hosted. The change is minimal and only impact the Landscape portion of the code. https://code.launchpad.net/~therve/cloud-init/fix-landscape- config/+merge/122870 contains the relevant changeset. ** Affects: cloud-init (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to cloud-init in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1053020 Title: SRU: fix 1042758 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cloud-init/+bug/1053020/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 706706] Re: Can't use Norton Ghost under Ubuntu KVM
** Description changed: Binary package hint: qemu-kvm Hi, I can't use Norton Ghost under Ubuntu KVM, whereas the same version of kvm under Debian launches Norton Ghost just fine. I've tried many times and I've also tried both Norton Ghost 2003 and Norton Ghost 8.3. Same symptom. Actual command used is, - kvm -m 1024 -smp 2 -usbdevice tablet -hda hda -cdrom /path/to + kvm -m 1024 -smp 2 -usbdevice tablet -hda hda -cdrom /path/to /NortonGhost-Version.iso -boot d The same command, using the same hda cdrom, works just fine under Debian. Please investigate Thanks PS. if you don't have a Norton Ghost iso file, you can try Hiren.BootCD.8.6.iso. Works the same.
