Re: [testcases] Creation of Ubuntu Studio specific testcase

2012-09-30 Thread Ho Wan Chan
OK my thought about it.

There shall be two testsuites: Installation and upgrade (per regulations).

1. Installation
Testcases:
1a. Live session (copied from the normal Ubuntu live testcase, don't need
much) Importance: Mandatory
1b. Install (ubiquity) (Integrating the existing three testcases into one)
Importance: Mandatory
1c. Post-installation (Copied from Wiki page) Importance: Run once

2. Upgrade
Testcases:
2a. Upgrade testcase (copied from existing upgrade testcase in vanilla
Ubuntu)
2b. Post-installation (same as 1c)

I will work on it today evening and tonight to get a preview out of it.

BTW you guys may not understand why on Earth are there three partitioning
options. Actually Nicholas Skaggs (Canonical Community QA Manager) forced
me to change it because he wanted to use the testcases that were originally
in testcases.qa.ubutnu.com to those which are in the ISO QA Tracker. So
er.. Anyway I will integrate the three partitioning options into one
testcase so don't worry:P

We already have too many test cases... I don't think we need to
differentiate different partitioning types. I don't think it matters if it
is a whole disk, partition resize or manual as these things are well
tested in vanilla and not different in any way for Studio from vanilla. If
they are separated for record keeping as one of three (or more) But not
all three tests mandatory. We just don't have the people to test these
things and that part of things is _no_different_ than vanilla. All that
matters is that there was a successful install. So if there is going to be
an upgrade case, (means two installs as far as I can tell, 12.04 then
upgrade) then some of these others need to go. Personally, for our
purposes we do not need to test the resize option at all and as we are
most likely doing it on a machine we use for other things too, the manual
partitioning option is the safest IMO. and should be the only test case we
 worry about.

So at most we should have live, install and upgrade test cases. Whatever
the partitioning style used the install partition should be formated. I
think that was why we were using the whole disk option before. If the disk
is not going to be formated then it is an upgrade.

I've given up on using Thunar as the default FM. tumblerd seems to hang or
quit on mounting USB sticks and I have to kill it so I can dismount the
 stick. Nautilus works fine.

[Ubuntu-BR] Atualização PPA

2012-09-30 Thread Wilson Costa Marinho Filho

- language detection library - data files
  da versão 3.2.0-1 ubuntu1~oneiric1 para
  3.3.1-2~oneiric1

Já desmarquei na lista de atualizações e mandei verificar. Tudo OK.
Aí voltei a marcar e mandei verificar. Aparece novamente do mesmo jeito.

Alguém já teve problema semelhante?

Toda e qualquer ajuda é bem vinda!!

Um abraço,

Wilson

 hi all,

Just a quick notice. I went to pick up the Tshirts from Bram's place in
Antwerp and brought them to my parents place.
Since Antwerp is the city and the rest of Belgium is parking space, the
shirts are on the parking now.. :D

I'm not sure how many there are and I'm kind of really busy at the
 moment.

 Therefor:
If you want one, drop me a line in which you tell me what size you'd
 like.
 Next week I'll check availability.
If you're lucky and we have shirts left in your size, I'll take them to
Hasselt where I will prep them for sending.

 Wouter

PS: I took 1 medium shirt out for the guy who's supplying the new
 computers..

Hello,

Here is a link to the latest ubuntu-be iso.

http://ubuntuone.com/6T4F6KSJPrQZdDoNQGlDBx

Extra installed apps :
- restricted : codecs,java,flash,..
- vlc
- gimp
- inkscape
- official be-eid reader software
- tuxpaint
- myunity
- for now dutch language installed by default
- configured for Azerty keyboard
- custom wallpaper in live-session and default ubuntu-precise wallpaper
when installed
- Dutch and English manuals of ubuntu 12.04LTS in a folder on the
desktop in live and installed session.

It is 1,2gb big and designed for use with our usb-sticks with multiple

I've made a _new image_ of our ubuntu-stick and wil see how to make it
public, it's 4gb.
We can copy the image with DD to our usb-drives or use the script Wouter
made for copying multiple disks at once.

I will let you know when it's online.

[Bug 1058987] [NEW] dnsmasq-base causes the root filesystem to not cleanly unmount at shutdown or reboot

2012-09-30 Thread Kevin Keijzer
Public bug reported:

Ever since some update in the Quantal pre-releases, having dnsmasq-base
installed will cause the root filesystem to not be properly unmounted on
shutdown and reboot. In case the Plymouth splash screen is disabled, the
message 'mount: / is busy' will be shown, but otherwise the user will
not even be aware of this problem.

After rebooting, the root filesystem needs recovery, as shown in dmesg:

kevin@vbox-xubuntu-quantal:~$ dmesg | grep EXT4
[1.022746] EXT4-fs (sda2): INFO: recovery required on readonly filesystem
[1.022750] EXT4-fs (sda2): write access will be enabled during recovery
[1.248294] EXT4-fs (sda2): recovery complete
[1.248661] EXT4-fs (sda2): mounted filesystem with ordered data mode. Opts:
(null)
[1.456315] EXT4-fs (sda2): re-mounted. Opts: errors=remount-ro

Yet again, the user will not be aware of this until it is too late. The
only way to avoid this from happening (or at least what I've found) is
running 'sudo apt-get purge dnsmasq-base'. Sadly, this also removes
network-manager and network-manager-gnome, so it isn't really a viable
solution.

Another problem that might be related is that having an active
connection with the Network Manager prior to shutting down or rebooting,
will cause the process to hang for a few seconds, after which the
message about / being busy is shown. Stopping the network service (sudo
service networking stop) will solve the hanging, but not the unclean
unmount. So far, only purging dnsmasq-base seems to do that, which
obviously also solves the other problem, as Network Manager will then
also be removed.

Although I haven't experienced it yet, this could cause potential data
loss; especially for users without a seperate /home partition.

[Bug 1059272] [NEW] php5-fpm init.d script does not return when php5-fpm is started or stopped

2012-09-30 Thread Thomas Ward
Public bug reported:

Apport information is missing, because I am reporting this on a non-
networked location. I will pull apport information after I get the
system onto a networked area (installation was via a local repository on
a secured subnet of this area).

php5-fpm when using /etc/init.d/php5-fpm stop or /etc/init.d/php5-fpm
start, as well as when using 'service' similarly, does not report that
the php process was started or stopped. This makes server
administration a tad confusing. `pidof php5-fpm` shows it is running,
but there's no notification thereof that it was started or stopped (from
the start/stop script).

Update: The 'restart' command does give output similar to this:

[orion]# service php5-fpm restart

I'd expect similar stuff for 'stop' and 'start' as well, saying Starting or
Stopping accordingly.

[Bug 1058540] Re: compiz crashes soon after startup

2012-09-30 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the
crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

It works ok if you use sudo gnome-menus-blacklist so not a bug.

It is because /usr/share/gnome/applications is not user writeable as

[Bug 1058227] Re: Top menu bar flips to blue (background colour)

2012-09-30 Thread sampo555
I'm quite sure this problem was caused by the latest SRU as it contained
some backported fixes from Quantal where similar problems have been
observed (bug 1042024). And those problems have now started to occur in
Precise too.

Could you downgrade Unity to 5.14 and test if the problem was caused by
the Unity 5.16 SRU few weeks back?

To downgrade, download following packages:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/5.14.0-0ubuntu1/+build/3676768/+files/libunity-core-5.0-5_5.14.0-0ubuntu1_i386.deb
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/5.14.0-0ubuntu1/+build/3676768/+files/unity-common_5.14.0-0ubuntu1_all.deb
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/5.14.0-0ubuntu1/+build/3676768/+files/unity-services_5.14.0-0ubuntu1_i386.deb
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/5.14.0-0ubuntu1/+build/3676768/+files/unity_5.14.0-0ubuntu1_i386.deb

Open terminal and go to the directory you downloaded those packages to (for
example if you put them to Downloads run following):
cd Downloads

Then run
sudo dpkg -i *unity*.deb
unity --replace

If the problem is gone, it's definitely caused by the latest SRU.

When done, run following command to install the latest Unity:
sudo apt-get install unity unity-services libunity-core-5.0-5 unity-common

[Bug 1055006] Re: Ubuntu 12.10 beta 1 amd64 installer hanging during boot.

2012-09-30 Thread Ankit Saini
I downloaded the latest daily build as of 30 September and the installer hanged
again while booting.
These were the last three lines printed on the console:

Stopping save kernel messages [Ok]
Starting restore sound card(s') mixer state(s)[Fail]
Starting CUPS printing spooler/server [Ok]

The installer hanger after that.

There doesn't seem to be a way to record the boot log so that I can give
you the log to see.

[Bug 868904] Re: Redshift fails to start with session due to geoclue failure

2012-09-30 Thread Prasanna K
Above mentioned work around works without active internet connection.
i.e, redshift doesn't go looking for geolocations if you use this
workaround.

But if we tuse terminal and use command : $ redshift
(it shows)

** (process:3248): WARNING **: Metadata for error domain geoclue-error-
quark already registered

Started Geoclue provider `Geoclue Master'.
Using provider `geoclue'.
Could not get location (3 retries left): Geoclue master client has no usable
Position providers.
Unable to get location from provider.

But when you type command $ gtk-redshift -l LAT:LONG (Where LAT and LONG
correspond with your coordinates.)
it runs soomthly as send in the above question. Hence forth a startup
application is created using this command.

By the way when you click ApplicationsAccessoriesRedshift it works
through geolocation and needs a active internet connection every time
where as the little workout in http://askubuntu.com/questions/194525
/does-redshift-need-active-internet-connection-to-work/194582#194582
helps the otherway by mannually creating the geolocation.

[Bug 1058927] [NEW] Cannot change keyboard layout in Gnome Shell

2012-09-30 Thread Žygimantas Beručka
Public bug reported:

There is no way to change keyboard layout in GNOME except by going to
System Settings since no keyboard layout indicator is shown in Gnome
Shell.

I saw Jeremy Bicha commenting at
http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=12263229postcount=17 that it's
because the new Ibus thing is missing and is 'very unlikely' to be
shipped with Quantal.

If this is the case, I propose to make it available at least in the
GNOME3 PPA as soon as possible. Without doing that it would severely
damage user experience, as using different languages is one of those
bare basic tasks the user would expect even a Windows 95 capable
computer to let him do. Not to mention that it would negatively impact
the Ubuntu GNOME Remix edition which would fail to deliver a working
GNOME 3.6 from the outset.

[Bug 1058883] Re: start-on conditions in Upstart script prevent aiccu from restarting during resume from suspend

2012-09-30 Thread Jeroen Massar
 aiccu doesn't (re)start

AICCU should just kept on running during a resume, no need to stop it
before and start it after it, nothing is changing for it (except maybe
network, and that it can handle).

2012-09-30 Thread Micah Gersten
Builds fine, sync'd to quantal, requires acceptance by the release team as the
archive is frozen, nothing further needed on your part
Just FYI, I noticed the debian/copyright and debian/control changes without a
corresponding changelog entry, it's usually nice to list any change in the
debian dir in the changelog file

Thanks for keeping Ubuntu up to date!

Well, the debugging output in comment #5 doesn't show any files open for
writing on the root filesystem, except for the debug output itself. It
distinctly does not show plymouth holding any files open for writing.

[Bug 6290] Re: DV capture over Firewire is broken (no rights for /dev/raw1394)

2012-09-30 Thread Eric Wright
Kino isn't the only important one that is broken by a lack of a
thoughtful fix.

VLC is also affected for people like myself that NEED to be able to
stream LIVE video from a professional DV camera over a wireless network,
and finally export it several miles away at a television transmitter
site for our viewers to watch.

This morning I was supposed to broadcast a parade from 5 miles away... I
started on this problem at 4AM and missed the 9AM parade start.

Just because a person CAN kill others with an automobile does not mean
we should all have our cars taken away for everyone else's safety
and along the same lines raw1394 access that WAS working perfect before,
should be allowed back.

Instead give users a security panel where they can check a box to
disable raw1394 if they have no use for it, and they can leave it
unchecked if they NEED full access.

I am writing this post because there is little else I can do, but I had
to do SOMETHING My job at a television station depends on my being
able to live stream an 8Mb/s stream from a DV camera any time there is a
parade, breaking news story, or other reason to require high quality
live video to be transmitted from all points across town...

Our station does not have the $300,000 for a microwave truck and
astronomical yearly fees for the satellite link... I am forced to use 2
watt radios on empty 802.11 channels, employing 4 degree beam width mesh
antennas, to avoid disrupting other people's wireless connections.
There's no way our viewers would stand for USB web cam video without
laughing us off the air.

I can technically do it in Windows... but Windows is not stable enough
to trust for parade, rodeo, job fairs, auto racing, and other long
duration live broadcasts.

Please don't break my ability to stream high quality video with VLC
running on a laptop in a backpack for a 20Lb solution that includes the
camera and everything in a portable package

Or I should say, it's already broken... please return the functionality
removed

If the VLC team needs to help work out a suitable driver, please do work
with them... I am pretty sure they are open to assistance making this
work as well.

Thank you for your time,
Eric

[Bug 1045914] Re: Keyboard layout doesn't show in GNOME Shell session

2012-09-30 Thread Žygimantas Beručka
I'd like to object against tagging it's importance as 'Low.' Changing
layouts, you know, it's some UX basics that should 'just work' in the
21st century. I use at least 4 layouts (the current limit on Ubuntu)
daily, switching between them back and forth, and needless to say this
is _very_ inconvenient for me and many other users, I believe. As is the
option to wait another 7 months (!) at the very least until this is
resolved.

I understand that it's late in the cycle, but it's not a LTS release
after all, so something should be done about that.

[Bug 818220] Re: libmotif4 should provide libmotif3 symlinks (libXm.so.3, etc.)

2012-09-30 Thread Graham Inggs
** Description changed:

+ [FFe] Please consider the patch attached to comment #3 of LP: #1026640
+ for a Feature Freeze exception.
+
+ [IMPACT]
+ Libmotif3 has been replaced in the repositories by libmotif4 which is binary
compatible with the older version.
+ However, libmotif4 does not include the required symlinks.
+
+ [Test Cases]
+ The archive attached to comment #4 of LP: #1026640 contains executables
Xmtest-libmotif3-i386, Xmtest-libmotif4-i386, Xmtest-libmotif3-amd64 and
Xmtest-libmotif3-amd64.
+
+ Install package libmotif4 and verify that both Xmtest-libmotif3-* and
+ Xmtest-libmotif4-*, as appropriate for your architecture, are able to be
+ executed.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ Minimal: this change applies to additional library symlinks.
+

+
According to the Open Motif 2.3.3 release notes:

http://www.motifzone.com/files/public_downloads/openmotif/2.3/2.3.3/RELEASE.txt
  New location for release notes:
  http://motif.ics.com/open-motif-233-release-notes

  1.1. Overview of Open Motif

Open Motif 2.3.3 is an updated version of Open Motif 2.3.
Any applications built against a previous 2.x release of Open Motif will be
  binary compatible with this release.

Dependencies should also be revised, currently package libmotif4
  Conflicts: libmotif3
  Replaces: libmotif3

This should be updated to include:
  Provides: libmotif3

And the following symlinks should be created:
  libMrm.so.3 - libMrm.so.4
  libUil.so.3 - libUil.so.4
  libXm.so.3 - libXm.so.4

[Bug 796006] Re: Samsung Galaxy S Android 2.3.4 tethering does not work any longer

2012-09-30 Thread Nabil BOUDERBALA
Hi Herton,
Please propose the patch, as you said above, and I will test it and let you
know the result.
If it is already in -proposed, please inform me about how can I apply it
because this situation is new to me.
Thank you,

PS: I can't upgrade to Precise because I use gretl and other apps which
aren't yet supported in this version, and above all I like natty so
much!
