[ubuntu-in] wine and network

2009-04-29 Thread Amit Sarda
Dear All

i have just purchased Tally ERP.

i have loaded it on a windows XP and made it the server.

i am trying to connect to it via LAN on ubuntu 9.04 via wine.

i am able to see the tally file in network.

i am also able to activate tally by entering the IP address of the
comp (when i gave //computer1 ... it did not take. but when i gave the
IP address as 192.168.x.x it took)

the data is kept in a place called //comp1/Tally.ERP9/Data

but how do u connect to it.

i read somewhere that if u map the drive in wine, it will work.

but unfortunately, i could not understand the steps required.

can some1 please guide me.

Re: [ubuntu-in] multiple lan problem

2009-04-25 Thread Amit Sarda
Dear Al
thanks for your suggestions.
please note that the best data was in
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Internet/ConnectionSharing.
what is understand is that you have to have different default subnet
mask for both the network.
i tried 255.255.0.0 for one network and 255.255.255.0 for the other.
it worked like a charm.
thanks for your help.

2009-04-08 Thread Amit Sarda
dear all
this is not of an information.

i was planning to install a USB wireless adaptor for ubuntu 8.10

i bought a dlink DAW 110 (for a mere Rs. 1100/-).

i just connected it and it worked like a charm.

i didnt have to install anything.

i even use a WAP2 passkey protection for my wireless.

but it worked perfectly.

if any of u are planning to get USB wireless adaptor, use d-link.

hope this information is useful.

[ubuntu-in] windows network on dosenu or dosbox

2008-11-12 Thread Amit Sarda
Dear All

i have a primitive accounting software written on DOS with fox as a
database.

The software is running on a windows 98/ xp PC.

I want to connect to the software using dos.

I understand that the two best DOS versions available are dosemu and dosbox.

My problem is how do I connect to the windows network from ubuntu?

I have tried loading SAMBA and I can access the windows network from ubuntu.
But how do I configure dosemu?

In windows, we map the drive as x:

Then we go to the desired folder say x:/data1 and execute our files.

Kindly advice if anyone has used something similar.

With regards

Amit Sarda

[ubuntu-in] controller web access

2008-10-17 Thread Amit Sarda
Dear All
thanks for the number of replies to my earlier query for firewall.

it seems i am mistaken and asking the wrong question.

let me rephrase my question so that i get the required answer.

i have an office in which there is a network of 5 PC's. i am planning to
give them access to the internet.

i would like to stop the missuse of the net and hence allow access to only a
few website.

these rules should apply to only those 5 PC.

my computer which is connected to the same router should access to an
unrestricted web.

i hope my question is clear.

please help.
