[Bug 1624381] [NEW] add additional shortcut support for zoom/unzoom in US keyboards

2016-09-16 Thread Bill Filler
Public bug reported:

On US keyboards, the "+" (plus) key is in shifted position, and the "-"
(minus) is not. All the other browsers (chrome, chromium, firefox)
support the following shortcuts for zoom/unzoom and we should do the
same, so user does not have to press ctrl+shift as that is not expected.

zoom in:
ctrl+plus
ctrl+equals

zoom out:
ctrl+underscore
ctrl+minus

[Bug 1623147] [NEW] A "JEDIT" icon overlays the "X" icon on whatever other package is active.

2016-09-13 Thread Bill Turner, wb4alm
Public bug reported:

1. Start JEDIT
2. Start any other application.
Whatever application happens to be positioned in the left hand upper corner of
the screen (i.e. second line, under the "task" bar) will have it's close icon
(the "X") overlaid by a JEDIT icon, preventing you from closing the second
application.

This "JE" icon background is a "light gray" with the standard orange
"JE".

In the task bar, there are several other "JEDIT" icons, all colored the same -
orange "JE" on a black background, one each for the internal JEDIT processes
currently active.

There does not appear to be any useful function provided by this icon, as
clicking on it does nothing.
- - -

I am running UBUNTU 16.04.1 with GNOME 3.20
JEDIT 5.3.0
JAVA 1.8.0_91

the following JEDIT plugins are available, but are not active (ie. "loaded")
BufferTabs 1.2.4
Character Map 1.3.3
Column Ruler 1.0.5
Common Controls 1.7.4
JDIFF Plugin 3.3.0

- - -

I also have two monitors on a single NVIDIA card. It does not matter on which
screen JEDIT is started, nor does it matter if the JEDIT window is moved to the
other screen. This jedit icon
is always positioned at the start of line 2 on the primary monitor, and it
ALWAYS overlays the exit icon of any screen positioned there.

To close the secondary application, it is necessary to move the window
down or to the right so that the "X" icon is displayed. You can then
click on it to close the second application.

Clicking on this "extra" JEDIT icon does nothing...

This is NOT a misplaced JEDIT application icon for any of JEDIT's
internal processes, as each of those has its own "JE" icon in the upper
"task" bar, all of which properly identify themselves with a mouse-over.

- - -
I am using JEDIT as my primary text editor, because GEDIT cannot
be resized by grabbing one of the edges or corners, and because the work
enhancing icons previously available in the now missing toolbar have been
changed to menus and submenus coupled with right and left clicks and... The
modifications made to GEDIT are now causing extreme slowdowns in the work that
I do with my computer.

that removes depends on telepathy-ofono. That work is in silo

with build and test issues, hope to have it resolved in the next day or
so.

The steps for me are to make sure dialer is not running, and lock the
phone and press "Emergency Calls" and that makes it crash just about
every time.

[Bug 1615297] Re: lubuntu 16.04.1 desktop fails to install cups

2016-08-25 Thread Bill Who
As mentioned... ONLY lubuntu 16.04 desktop cups is missing.

Previous and Next versions have cups in the installer:

lubuntu 14.04 desktop has cups
lubuntu 15.04 desktop has cups
lubuntu 15.10 desktop has cups
lubuntu yakkety desktop has cups
--and--
lubuntu 16.04 alternate has cups

Surely this is a defect (regression, bug) that has been CORRECTED in
yakkety. It is certainly unexpected behaviour!

[Bug 1616509] [NEW] notification with screen locked shows undesireable results on tablet

2016-08-24 Thread Bill Filler
Public bug reported:

running rc-proposed on m10 tablet, have security setup for passcode. The
problem is whenever my screen is locked and I get a notification (i.e.
new gmail message), the screen turns on and I see the OSK taking up
half of the screen and the password field focus. This is really
distracting and looks bad, as I'm not trying to login.

Would be better to just show the notification with no osk. Seems an easy
fix would be to make sure the passcode field is not focused when the
screen is locked (or turned on) which would make the osk not appear.

[Bug 1616296] [NEW] package nemo (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite '/usr/share/polkit-1/actions/org.nemo.root.policy', which is also in package nemo-data 3.0.6-1~xenial0

2016-08-23 Thread Bill Turner, wb4alm
Public bug reported:

was running ubuntu 14.04.1, with gnome (cinnamon installed over gnome about
year and half ago)
graphics card is Nvidia Corp GF108 [GeForce GT620] rev a1 with the nvidia 304
driver

Responded to upgrade manager prompt to upgrade to ubuntu 16/04.1

After checking found that most folks with Nvidia problems had them in June/July
2016,
so figured problems had been resolved. (Boy, was I wrong!)

Have spent the the last 5-days 8-10 hours a day, trying to recover from
this badly packaged upgrade. It took two days to get "past" the
inability to logon at all, and was finally able to make use of ctl-
alt-F3 to get a terminal session during the logon loop problem of
lightdm and Nvidia video drivers after trying damn near every NVIDIA
video driver since 304.

This was done using ppa:graphics-drivers and always doing a "sudo apt-
get-purge nvida-*" before the "sudo apt-get install nvidia-xxx".
Initially I tried nvidia-367 and it did not work. Eventually, however,
the nvidia 367.35 did work with gdm3, but not with lightdm.

I do not understand why Nemo is "not installed" as that was the software
package that I used the most (other then "apt-get" and "dpkg") during my
tty debugging sessions, once I could actually establish a tty session.

Amongst many other changes that was made while trying to resolve the entire
upgrade to Ubuntu 16.04.1 Gnome, was that I installed cinnamon 3 and then
uninstalled it...
...this eliminated a lot of wierd error messages. (Sorry, don't remember what
they were.)

Eventually I installed gnome 3.20 using its special ppa and when that
did not work, I did a new install of "gnome" and "gnome-shell". After I
did yet another "sudo dpkg-reconfigure gdm3" and for the first time in
5-days I was able to logon with a Graphics Manager.

Upon login, I received a message that the "nemo 2.8.6-2" installation
had failed, and thus this ticket...

If anybody wants to try and figure out what the original root cause for the
ubuntu 16.04.1 gnome installation failure really was, please list what command
output and or logs you would like to see and I will be glad to attach them to
this ticket. While I am knowledgable and comfortable with Linux, I am not an
expert. (I retired 10-years ago from a lifetime of supporting very large IBM
Mainframes at multiple locations and networking them with many, many different
minicomputer and microcomputer hardware systems and their respective operating
systems in both workstation and server configurations.)

[Bug 1445755] Re: Provide a way to hide images from a particular location

2016-08-23 Thread Bill Filler
I'm having a hard time reproducing this and don't know what I'm doing
wrong. I copy a bunch of music from my desktop to ~/Music of phone. I
see the album art in the Music app but don't see the album art in the
gallery-app. Repeat the same steps but copy music from desktop to sd
card then insert the sd in phone. Same thing - I correctly see album art
in Music player and My Music scope but not in gallery. Doing find for
AlbumArtSmall.jpg and Folder.jpg yields nothing. What am I doing wrong?

[Bug 1611497] [NEW] New kernel 4.4.0-34 kills xfce4-power-manager

2016-08-09 Thread Bill Miller
Public bug reported:

I use 64 bit Ubuntu but run LXDE as my desktop environment. I installed
xfce4-power-manager to show the status of my UPS. It worked great until
I installed the 4.4.0-34 kernel. Now the power icons don't show, and if
I try to start the program manually, I get a popup saying that
communication can't be established.

Rolling back to 4.4.0-31 fixed it, so staying there for now.

[Bug 1610400] Re: No remote video to call initiator

Another wrinkle: Above description is for the sip protocol. When I

[Bug 1610400] [NEW] No remote video to call initiator

2016-08-05 Thread Bill Miller
Public bug reported:

This is completely symmetric. The caller gets no remote video, the call
recipient gets remote and local video, picture-in-picture works. If the
call is terminated and the original recipient calls the original caller,
now the new caller gets no remote video.

In summary

[Bug 1574851] Re: libgl not found on nvidia machines (so far)

2016-08-02 Thread Bill Filler
I can also confirm with snapd 2.0.10 that I get the same gl errors so this is
not fixed.
Also tried the workaround, copy all files from /usr/lib/nvidia-xxx to
/var/lib/snapd/lib/gl/ and restarted snapd and now things are working.

[Bug 1199774] Re: No calDAV and iCalendar support

2016-08-02 Thread Bill Filler
We've landed multi-calendar google sync for ota13. We're in process of
finishing OwnCloud multi-calendar sync, using the new OwnCloud online
account.

Once this lands, generic calDav support should be easy, just need a generic
CalDav online account and then it will just work.

[Bug 1521173] Re: AER: Corrected error received: id=00e0

2016-07-26 Thread Bill Michaelson
I seem to have this issue too, but related to a different device.
Running 16.04 with 4.4.0-31-generic. New (used) machine so very
concering. It ran fine for about an hour then spontaneously started
spewing this:

Jul 26 13:28:05 twin kernel: [8.837650] pcieport :00:03.0: AER:
Multiple Corrected error received: id=0018

lspci -nn gives me a match against this:

00:03.0 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation Core Processor PCI Express
Root Port 1 [8086:d138] (rev 11)

and booting with pci=noaer suppresses the messages with no apparent ill
effects.

But I don't know what the message is supposed to mean and I fear that I
am suppressing a valid warning and gambling if I use the machine for
serious work. Insights more than welcome. The machine is an ASUS G73Jh
laptop Intel Core i7-720QM @ 1.60GHz / Nehalem 45nm). TIA.

[Bug 1603508] [NEW] filter requesting app from peer picker list if same app

2016-07-15 Thread Bill Filler
Public bug reported:

Peer picker should never display an app that is requesting a content-hub
operation (say export) in the list of apps that can import.

For example, code has been added to Filemanager to register as a
destination for many of the supported types. If you choose a photo in
Filemanager and click it, it displays the peer picker with FileManager
as one of it's choices. This should be filtered out.

[Bug 1580500] Re: No way to share calendar invites/events with calendar-app

2016-07-05 Thread Bill Filler
I think a few things would need to happen on the content-hub and calendar side
first
1) content-hub would need to add a new type ContentHub.Calendar (until proper
mime-type support lands in content-hub). See
https://developer.ubuntu.com/api/apps/qml/sdk-15.04.4/Ubuntu.Content.ContentType/
2) Calendar app would register as content-hub destination for this content-type
3) Calendar app needs implement a content-hub importer for text/calendar files
that would be invoked by content-hub operation. For first cut imported calendar
events would be saved to the default calendar as specified in calendar settings.

[Bug 1597537] [NEW] "the cache has no package" error when wine update is available

2016-06-29 Thread Bill Scales
Public bug reported:

Release:

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
Release:16.04

Pacakge:
$ apt-cache policy update-notifier
update-notifier:
  Installed: 3.168
  Candidate: 3.168
  Version table:
 *** 3.168 500
500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

What should happen:

$/usr/lib/update-notifier$ /usr/lib/update-notifier/apt-check -p
wine-devel-amd64
wine-devel
google-chrome-stable
winehq-devel
wine-devel-i386

What actually happened:

$/usr/lib/update-notifier/apt-check -p
E: Unknown Error: '' ("The cache has no package named
'wine-devel-i386'")

Whats wrong:

apt_check.py line 143:

ignored = ul._is_ignored_phased_update(aptcache[pkg.name])

needs to use a full package name that includes the arch:

ignored =
ul._is_ignored_phased_update(aptcache[pkg.get_fullname(False)])

There are many other reports of this problem - the suggested 'solution' in many
cases is to run package manager/apt to install all the updates which then
'fixes' the problem until the next

[Bug 1375889] Re: reply to message in gmail shows garbled reply view

2016-06-14 Thread Bill Filler
Testing with silo 68 which contains the UA override.
I first delete any cache files in .local/share/webbrowser-app and gmail webapp,
then launch the browser or gmail webapp.

The override works most of the time (you can tell if you see the black
"Updated" footer on the main gmail screen when press the refresh button,
or when replying to a mail if the original message is formatted
correctly.)

Try to close the app and restart it. Do this multiple times and
frequently gmail is rendered without the override as you don't see the
footer and reply messages are not formatted.
