[Bug 1861230] Re: _sasl_plugin_load failed
In trying to recreate the issue this afternoon, it looks as though installs based on all of the updated / most recent packages are succeeding again (i.e., this may no longer be an issue). In our dpkg logs, we noticed that an update came through today for libc- bin (2.27-3ubuntu1), and wonder if this update may have been part of what resolved the issue. If that is not part of why this is working, then I will bury my head / beg your forgiveness and try to figure out if there was some other cause. Please understand that this stopped working the same day that we got the libsasl2 package updates, and that reverting the libsasl2 updates allowed us to get our installs working, so that is why we filed a bug against this package. Before I continue - I want to say thanks for your response to this report. I appreciate your effort and help. As for the issue, when I say, "If I only install the latest packages" I mean a fully up-to-date system at the time of install, including sssd version 1.16.1-1ubuntu1.4. As part of my testing, I always used sssd version 1.16.1-1ubuntu1.4 (even when I downgraded / upgraded the referenced libsasl packages (libsasl2-2, libsasl2-modules-db, libsasl2-modules, libsasl2-modules-gssapi-mit). If I only install the latest packages (without the earlier versions of these packages being installed previously) (i.e., if I do a clean install of the most current packages when deploying a new host), it does not work. If I downgrade the packages to the prior versions, and then upgrade the packages to their latest versions, it does work. [Bug 1861230] Re: _sasl_plugin_load failed
After allowing the packages to be upgraded to their newer versions, the problem does _not_ persist. We see expected / desired results. [Bug 1861230] Re: _sasl_plugin_load failed
I will try updating the packages to their current-released versions and see if the problem persists. We ran into this issue across several 18.04 deployments yesterday, though. [Bug 1861230] Re: _sasl_plugin_load failed
When downgrading to the prior package, we do not see this problem. We've taken the following steps as a work-around: - apt-get -y --allow-downgrades install libsasl2-2=2.1.26.dfsg1-14build1 - apt-get -y --allow-downgrades install libsasl2-modules-db=2.1.26.dfsg1-14build1 - apt-get -y --allow-downgrades install libsasl2-modules=2.1.26.dfsg1-14build1 - apt-get -y --allow-downgrades install libsasl2-modules-gssapi-mit=2.1.26.dfsg1-14build1 Then we've used apt-pinning to pin those versions: Package: libsasl2-2 Pin: release o=Ubuntu version 2.1.26.dfsg1-14build1 Pin-Priority: 999 Package: libsasl2-modules Pin: release o=Ubuntu version 2.1.26.dfsg1-14build1 Pin-Priority: 999 Package: libsasl2-modules-db Pin: release o=Ubuntu version 2.1.26.dfsg1-14build1 Pin-Priority: 999 Package: libsasl2-modules-gssapi-mit Pin: release o=Ubuntu version 2.1.26.dfsg1-14build1 Pin-Priority: 999 And we've used a hold to (temporarily) keep them from being upgraded: echo hold | sudo dpkg --set-selections ... We've done that for each of the four above packages. Adding test case here: 1) Install patches / patched package 2) Confirm that the 'geoip url' is set to a correct 'https' value, and that this value is set as the default: `$ gsettings get com.ubuntu.geoip geoip-url` should display `https://geoip.ubuntu.com/lookup` `$ gsettings reset com.ubuntu.geoip geoip-url && gsettings get com.ubuntu.geoip geoip-url` should continue to display `https://geoip.ubuntu.com/lookup` (this will confirm that the `https` value is set as the default. 3) Confirm that the the correct location is being retrieved by the Ubuntu geoip service: apt install geoclue-examples and then geoclue-test-gui . . . should show correct location information. [Bug 1735493] Re: Please update to 1.16.0 for bionic
I'm looking forward to some fixes that will arrive in SSSD 1.16.1, and am hopeful that it will be released in time to be included in Bionic. 1) I know that the Debian sync deadline for 18.04 is March 1st. If 1.16.1 is released prior to that, is it likely that 1.16.1 could be included in the initial 18.04 release? 2) If we can only get 1.16.0 into the initial 18.04 release, would the 1.16.1 point release qualify for an SRU? If so, I would be willing to assist with that SRU process. 3) If SSSD 1.16.1 would be eligible for an SRU, approximately how long would that process take before such an upgrade makes its way to Ubuntu? [Bug 475864] Re: Unable to kickstart with LVM partition scheme.
I'm still seeing this on 16.04.3. The 'expert_recipe' partitioning string is being skipped / ignored. i.e., anything that looks like this: --- preseed partman-auto/expert_recipe string \ boot-root :: \ 500 500 500 ext4\ $primary{ } \ $bootable{ }\ method{ format }\ format{ } \ use_filesystem{ } \ filesystem{ ext4 } \ mountpoint{ /boot } \ . \ --- Doesn't seem to work. I was very careful, and tried a wide range of options - working on it for several hours with repeated attempts - and it always got skipped. As a result (for me), the automated partitioning stopped at the point where it would clear partitions (as seen in /var/syslog). I used an approach similar to that provided by Mick Pollard (see above), and it worked as desired. As an additional note, I used this line to automatically skip a warning about having no swap partition: preseed --owner partman-basicfilesystems partman- basicfilesystems/no_swap boolean false -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/475864 Title: Unable to kickstart with LVM partition scheme. Hi Dylan, thanks for the bug report. I see what you mean with regards to the unity-shell.png and unity.png files. You are correct in that they were taken from different desktops. Hello Mattias, Thank you for installing Ubuntu. I'm sorry that you had difficulty with Unity, or that you did not like it. You can use the Gnome 2-style interface (the old, as you refer to it). To use the previous-style interface, you will need to select the Ubuntu Classic interface when you are logging in to Ubuntu. When the login screen comes up, select your user name, and then change the session from Ubuntu to Ubuntu Classic. The session chooser is in the bottom panel on the login screen. Remember that the session chooser will only appear after you have selected your username. After you have changed the session, then enter your password, and press Enter. Re: [Bug 753072] Re: yelp docs not about ubuntu natty
It raises the question: is content being driven by the toolchain (Gnome 3 Yelp uses Mallard, whereas Maverick Ubuntu Help Center uses docbook)? I agree with Matthew here. We chose this toolchain (Mallard + Yelp) because it provided a better user experience (at least in the on-disk context) than DocBook, and it is easier to write and extend than DocBook. Besides, the people who were working on Gnome docs are pretty much the same people who are working on Ubuntu docs. Phil Bull, myself, Tiffany Antopolski, Natalia Ruz . . . we all helped shape Gnome 3 help and we all use Ubuntu. (Or at least we use Ubuntu as our primary desktops...). I'm entirely open to using different tools in the sense that I would be willing to write for content that goes on the desktop or web, but I'm not a web developer, and don't have the time and inclination to develop a doc CMS and get it integrated into the Canonical infrastructure. If Canonical has a need for a more web-based help system, I think it would be a good area for them to invest more resources. (Ubuntu Docs in Maverick was well translated into many languages, and translation of Gnome 3 topics + new Ubuntu Topics is at best uncertain.) Another approach would be to ask: What do Ubuntu Natty users need for content (on-disk/online)? Then let content development flow from that (with due consideration of delivery formats and localization). I agree that the even the help we are working on now may need to be re-architected a bit. The online portion remains a bit of an open question. Again, I'm open to other (online) approaches. A related question is: how important is it that content be independent from the display application (yelp)? Ryan Lortie and Shaun McCance talked about some additional ideas at the doc hackfest in Toronto, even talking about getting some help-specific features into GTK itself. Shaun would be the person to talk to about that stuff. Late-cycle UI changes and Documentation
Hi All, I'm working on system docs for 11.04, and am noticing some late UI changes. For example, with today's updates, I noticed that you can display the Launcher just by pressing your mouse against the far left side of the screen. Previously, I had to move my mouse the top corner. Other UI changes might not be as easy for me to notice, though. Is it feasible for the docs team to be notified of such changes? With GNOME, the docs team is notified of all post-ui-freeze UI changes (actually, two release managers and someone from the docs team needs to sign-off on the changes after a certain point). It makes it much easier to keep track of what is changing, and what needs to be updated in the docs. Thanks for your consideration, Jim PS. At some time, upstream proposed to remove the current code, and instead call some functions from the power manager to do that (this would've ensured one single area of configuration and a common behavior), but I don't think it was achieved for 4.8. Anyway, these buttons are only hidden, so I can put them back if you want, e.g. if someone tested them and can confirm that the screen is locked when suspending/hibernating. Thanks, Lionel. I tried using the menu buttons to go into suspend and hibertnate modes, and (after I turned the computer back on) the screen was not locked in either case. I also tried using the settings of the power manager to control things, and the same issue was present. This is all on Xfce 4.6, though. I haven't tried the 4.8 setup yet. If we don't enable those buttons by default, we can at least document what to do, and the risks (security) involved in doing so. Thanks for reporting the bug, Dan. On Tue, Dec 21, 2010 at 9:48 AM, Charlie Kravetz charlie- t...@ubuntu.comwrote: Thanks for reporting this bug and any supporting documentation. Since this bug has enough information provided for a developer to begin work, I'm going to mark it as confirmed and let them handle it from here. I can confirm this issue. Looks like the link got sidetracked somehow. It probably should be pointing at the Synaptic Package Manger in yelp instead. Thanks for taking the time to make Ubuntu better! ** Changed in: xubuntu-docs (Ubuntu) Status: New = Triaged This is a situation that we face pretty frequently - how to link to documentation that is in yelp? I've previously linked out to the html pages for that help (these would be the pages on the gnome website.) This would take the user out of the Xubuntu user help, though. Thoughts? But xfce4-power-manager provides these features anyway (right-click on the tray icon, and it can also set what action to do on a lid close, power button press, etc.). I'm not so sure that hiding these options from the user is the best way to go, though. Is there a reason for why the suspend / hibernate buttons were hidden for 10.10? I think most users would look for those buttons, and wouldn't think to just configure the options via the power manager. Dano, if the option isn't re-enabled, we should document the various options to either re-enable the suspend and hibernate buttons (they can click a few buttons to do that), or to use the power-manager to set the desired behaviors.
