Yes, the problem still remains with the latest kernel in 8.04 (2.6.24-16-generic). The fan does not work after resuming from hibernate. For now, I just have to remember to toggle the AC power every time I resume. I'm open to any suggestions to help identify the source of the bug. I see this happening too, since I started tracking hardy which has made the switch to the pm-utils infrastructure. I have to resort to restarting powernowd every time after I resume. Looking at /var/log/pm- suspend.log, it appears that all the resume hooks are running, which includes /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/94cpufreq. [Bug 175744] Re: Hardy freezes when using compiz
I can confirm this bug too. Trying to switch to a window by clicking on it in the window list plugin causes the display to freeze (not always, but often enough that I'm now wary of using the window list to switch and use Alt-Tab exclusively). The mouse moves, but the X display is frozen and unresponsive otherwise. The other instance when the system hangs like this is at times when I click on a visible window title bar to select and bring it to the foreground. This seems to happen more often if that window is a fullscreen window. After a freeze, I have to use the Alt-SysRq+K to kill the X server, and after I login back again, running top shows a compiz.real process hogging all the CPU time, and I have to kill it. I don't see any message added to syslog when a freeze occurs. [Bug 164187] Unsafe permissions on configuration directory
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: checkgmail Checkgmail stores its configuration in the ~/.checkgmail directory. Since one has the option of saving the Gmail password, it would be a good idea to make this directory accessible only by its owner. Maybe a feature release of Ubuntu can now incorporate this fix into the kernel package, so that one doesn't have to manually set the registers? -- Ricoh R5C822 - MMC cards not detected in built-in memory card reader https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/111089 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 114312] Re: Lenovo 3000 N100 overheats when running 2.6.20-15-generic
I second that, that is not really a fix. and leaving the fan issue aside, hibernate does otherwise work fine on this laptop. Also, as I said earlier in my bug report, it is possible to 'kickstart' the fan again after resuming from hibernate, by disconnecting and reconnecting AC power. Maybe a fix could be implemented that would emulate these ACPI events in software? -- Lenovo 3000 N100 overheats when running 2.6.20-15-generic https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/114312 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 150596] Resume fails if suspending while on battery power
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.22-13-generic I've found a new problem that has cropped up on my Lenovo 3000 N100 notebook after some kernel upgrade in gutsy. I can suspend and resume the system normally while the system is running on AC power. However, if the system is running on battery power when I suspend, there is a major problem. When the system tries to resume, it starts to emit a *very* loud screeching beep, accompanied by a constant clicking sound (I'm not sure what it is, but could be the hard disk). The hard disk activity LED stays on, and the system is unable to resume. I have to turn off the system quickly by holding the power button, because the beep is extremely loud. This behaviour is triggered only when the system is running on battery power while _suspending_ , the system power state when resuming does not make a difference, as this table explains: Suspending | Resuming | Able to resume? AC| AC Yes AC| Battery Yes Battery| ACNo Battery| Battery No I don't think this is a hardware issue with my laptop. I tried booting back into the old feisty kernel, suspending and resuming worked fine with it. Something has changed during one of the kernel updates. I'll be glad to provide any relevant debugging information. ** Affects: linux-source-2.6.22 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Resume fails if suspending while on battery power https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/150596 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 139887] Volume up keyboard hotkey unmutes channel, while volume down doesn't
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center In the Gnome Sound Preferences dialog box, one can choose which audio channel will be controlled by the keyboard volume control hotkeys. I've noticed a peculiar behaviour with my notebook's sound card (Intel HDA). I'm controlling the 'front' channel with the hotkeys. Normally, when I plug in the headphones, the front channel gets automatically muted. With the front channel muted, no sound comes through the system speakers, but the volume level still controls the audio volume of the headphones. Manually unmuting the front channel while the headphone is connected enables audio output from both the headphones and speakers (which I would not want in normal circumstances). The problem I'm seeing is that when I'm using the hotkeys to control the front channel: 1. Pressing the volume down key reduces the volume while keeping the muted channel muted. 2. Pressing the volume up key raises the volume, but also unmutes the channel if it is muted. So, if I'm listening via the headphones, I can safely reduce the volume from the keyboard, but if I try to increase the volume, audio starts playing from both the headphones and speakers! I have to mute the front channel manually then to keep the sound playing through the headphones only. I don't understand why the behaviour of the volume up and down keys is asymmetric... the volume up key should also simply adjust the volume level, and not disable the mute flag. ** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Volume up keyboard hotkey unmutes channel, while volume down doesn't https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/139887 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 139935] Improper rendering with compiz enabled
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: djview4 I'm using Djview4 on gutsy with compiz enabled. Djview does not render pages correctly, e.g. the text on the pages is translucent, and allows the desktop and background windows to show through. When I disable the compositing manager, normal page rendering is restored, so there appears to be a problem with Djview and compiz running together. [Bug 138065] Notebook CPU fan stays off after resuming from hibernate
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: acpi-support I have a Lenovo 3000 N100 (model 0768AQ1). The system seems to hibernate fine, but I have noticed that when the system resumes after hibernation, the CPU cooling fan no longer works, and the CPU temperature keeps on rising. This can be quite serious, as the CPU may easily overheat. I have found a way to reset normal operation of the fan though, by disconnecting the AC power. The fan immediately kicks in when I do that, and then I can reconnect the AC power, and normal fan operation continues thereafter. The other thing I've tried is to unload the 'fan' and 'thermal' modules and then reload them, but that seems to have no effect. I am attaching a log from dmesg, after I have hibernated and resumed the system (I probably had also suspended and resumed before hibernating, but the fan problem is just related to hibernate). If there is any information I can provide to help debug the problem, please let me know. I don't know how many laptop models face this issue, but it really needs to be fixed. ** Affects: acpi-support (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: acpi fan thermal -- Notebook CPU fan stays off after resuming from hibernate https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/138065 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 57786] Re: Totem does not update ID3 tag data on streaming radio stations
I can confirm the bug too. I don't know why Totem seems to work fine for Sebastian, but I've never seen Totem change the track name when a stream is playing. It picks up the name of the currently playing track when starting, and sticks with it throughout, even after it's finished playing. Other players I've tried, like rhythmbox and gxine, do correctly change track titles. I'm currently using the latest totem-gstreamer from gutsy.
