[Bug 1906617] Re: Anacron prevents shutdown while a job is running. Some packages install long-running jobs.
Some more research shows that the reason 90 seconds is no longer enough is https://salsa.debian.org/debian/anacron/-/commit/e83000966d446830ad93eef7af2c5ea62efe01db, which has set TimeoutStopSec=infinity for anacron. This decision was made in https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=915379, and they seem to find it appropriate for desktops... I tend to disagree, for the ssame reasons as the original bug reporter. ** Bug watch added: Debian Bug tracker #915379 https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=915379 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1906617 Title: Anacron prevents shutdown while a job is running. [Bug 1959527] Re: Behringer UMC22 lost capture support
Workaround: Comment out the following line: ATTRS{idVendor}=="08bb", ATTRS{idProduct}=="2902", ENV{ACP_PROFILE_SET}="behringer-umc22.conf" ...wherever it appears in /lib/udev/rules.d. [Bug 1959527] [NEW] Behringer UMC22 lost capture support
Public bug reported: Ubuntu release: 21.10 alsa-base version: 1.0.25+dfsg-0ubuntu7 Kernel version: 5.13.0-27-generic #29-Ubuntu SMP Wed Jan 12 17:36:47 UTC 2022 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux I have a Behringer U-Phoria UMC22 USB audio device, which in previous versions of Ubuntu correctly supports both output and capture. Upon upgrading to 21.10, it has lost capture support. The hardware itself still captures correctly, verified on a ChromeOS device. The result of running alsa-info is here: http://alsa- project.org/db/?f=29a30af604267a2dc591610d06fce3175b379b86 The relevant device is "USB Audio CODEC" (this is how it was identified in previous versions of Ubuntu as well, as well as ChromeOS). Indeed, under "Mixer controls for card CODEC", there is no capture channel. Indeed, Settings->Sound doesn't show this device as an input option. It works fine as an output option. I would expect this to show up as an input option, as it did with previous versions of ubuntu. [Bug 1945871] [NEW] Right-clicking in Chrome's "Save As" dialog crashes xdg-desktop-portal-gtk
Public bug reported: Ubuntu version: Ubuntu 21.04 xdg-desktop-portal-gtk version: 1.8.0-1 google-chrome-stable version: 94.0.4606.61-1 Reproduction: 1. Open Google Chrome - this has been occurring for several months, so different versions, but currently the one I have installed is: 94.0.4606.61 (Official Build) (64-bit) 2. Right-click on any page, click "Save As" (or download a file, which opens the same dialog) Expected behavior: A context menu with items such as "Open With File Manager", "Rename", etc. Actual behavior: "Save As" dialog is closed, and apport is triggered for /usr/libexec/xdg-desktop-portal-gtk (I *think* I attached a stack trace here). Other apps (firefox, gedit) work as expected here, the problem appears specific to Chrome - but Chrome isn't crashing - xdg-desktop-portal-gtk is. Therefore I'm starting by filing a bug report here. Unfortunately Chrome isn't reporting anything to stdout/stderr about this (only some unrelated messages about bluetooth). Note: I've attached /var/crash/_usr_libexec_xdg-desktop-portal- gtk.1000.crash. However, /var/crash/_usr_libexec_xdg-desktop-portal- gtk.1000.uploaded exists, with contents 68511cc2-2374-11ec-b3f5-fa163e6cac46. I don't see that this actually opened a bug anywhere though. [Bug 1025388] Re: Internal mic stops working when plugging in headphones
I've run the apport command because the bug seemed abandoned, but I exhibit the exact same symptoms. This is a Lenovo E490, my headphones use a TRS plug, but the system detects it as TRRS (i.e. believes it also has a microphone). To confirm, I've also checked: * Headphones with a TRRS cable behave correctly on this machine (their microphone is used) * My same TRS headphones (no microphone), on a Chromebook, have the plug detected correctly as TRS, and the Chromebook uses its internal microphone while sending audio to the headphones. There does not appear to be a way, in Linux, to configure the system to use the internal microphone while anything is plugged into the headphone jack. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1025388 Title: Internal mic stops working when plugging in headphones To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1025388/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1872001] Re: 5.3.0-46-generic - i915 - frequent GPU hangs / resets rcs0
FWIW, I'm experiencing very similar symptoms on the same kernel (5.3.0-46-generic), but on different hardware: This is a Lenovo ThinkPad E490. One thing that makes it *much* more frequent is running jackd with realtime priority. Running with ardour and jack, during the freezes audio proceeds normally (even MIDI events and synths work fine), but keyboard, mouse and monitor freeze. This occurs about once a minute! [Bug 1234458] Re: Indicator stuck on mouse icon, along with estimating...
After a little research, here's what I think is going on: The power level information from Logitech mice (using HID++) has very low resolution, as can be seen in hidpp-device.c from the upower package: Power level will always be reported as one of [5, 20, 55, 90]. Power drain rate (in watts) is not reported, so I assume the power indicator is trying to figure out how long the battery will last just by taking the differential of the power level. Since this never changes (until it drops by a whole level), the estimate is always infinity. The solution should be to modify the estimation algorithm so that if it fails to estimate within 1 minute or so, it just reports the power rate (55% in your case). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1234458 Title: Indicator stuck on mouse icon, along with estimating... Well, History and Bookmarks have been joined together in Firefox 3 - the only difference between a history item and a bookmark seems to be an extra flag on the bookmark. Splitting this functionality would create code duplication. Also, implementing searches engines will probably be very similar as well. Since we copy the sqlite database over (the copy in use by firefox is always locked), splitting into multiple modules means additional overhead as well. If the database doesn't update as often as I assume (fx. maybe only when I actively change something in the bookmarks), then it is not really a problem as I see it. While the DB-copying solution is not optimal (it would be best if Firefox just wouldn't request an exclusive lock - sqlite supports one-writer-many-readers), it's less damaging than you think: The DB is copied only upon searching, when you probably have enough hard-drive activity going on to make reading a 1MB file pretty insignificant. Even then, it only occurs if the DB has changed, so multiple searches in a row should rarely ever copy the DB twice. What does worry me is if the DB becomes large enough to make storage of the duplicate copy a concern (say, on an EEE or XO laptop). Note that this bug is only Fixed for wpasupplicant 0.6 and above, so if we want NM to work with it, wpasupplicant has to be updated. [Bug 159356] System freeze on high memory usage
Public bug reported: I run a batch matlab job server here at my lab, running Dapper 6.06 (for the LTS). One of the users has submitted a very memory-consuming job, which successfully crashes the server. Upon closer inspection, the crash happens like this: 1. I run matlab with the given file (as an ordinary, unpriveleged user) 2. RAM usage quickly fills up 3. Once the RAM meter hits 100%, the system freezes: All SSH connections freeze up, and while switching VTs directly on the machine works, no new processes run - so one can't log in, or do anything if he is logged in. (Sometimes typing doesn't work at all) Note that the swap - while 7 gigs of it are available - is never used. (The machine has 7 gigs of RAM as well) I've tried the same on my Gutsy 32-bit box, and there was no system freezeup - matlab simply notified that the system was out of memory. However, it did this once memory was 100% in use - and still, swap didn't get used at all! (Though it is mounted correctly and shows up in top and free). So first thing's first - I'd like to eliminate the crash issue. I suppose I could switch the server to 32-bit, but I think that would be a performance loss, considering that it does a lot of heavy computation. There is no reason, however, that this should happen on a 64-bit machine anyway. Why does it? The second concerning thing is swap - how come it doesn't get used? ** Affects: linux-meta (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- System freeze on high memory usage https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/159356 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I don't really know... I usually choose 11, but I don't know if there's a standard. I'm not too sure as to which one of them should do it, but I guess it would be better to do it from NM first, as it's easier, and then migrate it over into WPASupplicant if that solution is deemed cleaner. [Bug 112009] NetworkManager does not set channel when creating ad-hoc network
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: network-manager I'm trying to use NetworkManager to create an ad-hoc network with my ipw2200. The following manual method works: sudo iwconfig eth1 essid mynetwork channel 11 mode ad-hoc (That is, the laptop next to me will then see the network) However, when trying to do that with NetworkManager's create wireless network, the laptop next to me will not see the network. Checking iwconfig shows that the essid and mode were set properly - but unfortunately, one can't tell using iwconfig whether a channel was set. However, running sudo iwconfig eth1 channel 11 aftwards fixes the problem. [Bug 108955] No easy way to reconfigure grub
Public bug reported: There is currently no easy way to change the default booted operating system, nor an easy way to change the timeout for this selection. Consider the following UC: Erwin has just installed Ubuntu, as a friend recommended. For now, he intends to keep working with Windows as his primary operating system (perhaps even other members of his family are using Windows). Thus, he wants the default OS booted to be Windows. He asks on the forums, and probably receives the following answer: Hit Alt+F2, type gksudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst, and edit that file - it's mostly self-explanatory. Change the value 'default', the titles are zero-indexed. This is a confusing task, even for an experienced Linux user (mostly counting the titles), and a graphical interface could really help new users with this task. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- No easy way to reconfigure grub https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/108955 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 49876] Re: Clicking Synchronize Now in Time and Date Settings causes ubuntu to stop responding
Confirming this bug. I am running only Openbox, and setting the date even a couple of seconds back instantly causes the described unresponsiveness (mouse moves, applications update the screen normally, but clicks and keys do nothing). There is a way to avoid the power- cycle: Hit Alt+SysRq+R, then Alt+F1. (SysRq is usually the same as PrintScreen, Alt+SysRq+R gives Linux raw control of the keyboard, which takes it away from X) This is a really annoying bug... my system clock changes every time I wake up my computer from sleep (system clock syncs with hardware clock). -- Clicking Synchronize Now in Time and Date Settings causes ubuntu to stop responding https://launchpad.net/bugs/49876 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
