Eddie: First of all, I hope my message didn't sound like a personal attack or anything like that, as that wasn't my intention - it's great that you are contributing to bug triaging, and of course everyone can make mistakes :). I used the word banning for closing the bug (although you did not close it, but mark it Incomplete, but that still gets the bug out of developer's overview), I guess it wasn't the most appropriate term. I wasn't aware of those instructions, but they do not mention changing the status of the bug - please do not do this for other cases like this unless you are sure that the report is not relevant here. The blog entry to which I referred you mentions a set of Greasemonkey plugins, at https://launchpad.net/launchpad-gm-scripts, which can do stuff like adding team icons next to the names of people; this can be very useful to identify developers and the like. I'd suggest having giving it a try. Eddie: Thank you for attempting to triage this bug and helping improving Ubuntu, but you action on this one wasn't correct. Please note that ideas should not necessarily be banned, Launchpad has an importance called Wishlist specifically for them (and Brainstorm is, rather, a place to get feedback on ideas and where people who don't know how to work on something can ask others to do it, but some ideas from there actually end up being handled as wishlist bug reports). Even more, this report looks more like an usability bug than a request for a new feature, and looking at the profile of the person who reported it you can see that he is unlikely to file a wrong report (Ubuntu Core Developer, Canonical employee, over 100.000 karma, etc); in fact, being a Core Developer he is one of the people responsible for the collective maintenance of this package (as it resides in main). Call for feedback: REVU header and notifications
Heya, Just two quick questions... First of all, I've been thinking for a while about changing REVU's subtitle from «A Review Tool for MOTUs» to the more descriptive «Collaborative Ubuntu Packages Reviewing»; if you have better ideas let me hear, and if you think we shouldn't change it too (this shouldn't really make a difference, but I was asked to get feedback on this ML first as that line has been there forever). Unrelated to this, Nathan Handler has asked that in the e-mail notifications send out by REVU the subscribers should not be listed in a To: field but instead as Bcc: to hide their e-mails. Personally I disagree with this, as I like being able to quickly check who else is interested in a package or know if some interested party has also got a notification, and it also avoids having to go to Launchpad to find the e-mail address of someone if you want to contact them privately. I do not see privacy being a concern here as people contributing to Ubuntu should be contactable and not be hiding their e-mail address, it is available on Launchpad anyway (I'm not sure if notifications are working for people who have set their email to not be displayed) and if someone wants to harvest e-mails there are way more efficient ways than subscribing to REVU packages (like looking at the changelogs). However, I wanted to hear what other people think about this. Cheers, -- Siegfried-Angel Gevatter Pujals (RainCT) Ubuntu Developer. [Bug 333902] Re: Please sync webboard 0.2.2.2-1 from Debian unstable to Jaunty
Alright. Waiting for the package to go through NEW... ** Summary changed: - Please upgrade webboard to version 0.2.2 + Please sync webboard 0.2.2.2-1 from Debian unstable to Jaunty ** Description changed: - Binary package hint: webboard + Please sync webboard 0.2.2.-1 from Debian unstable to Jaunty. + + A Feature Freeze exception has been granted for 0.2.2 (see below); + 0.2.2.1 only adds a bug fix. + + I am filing this work-flow bug to request a Feature Freeze Exception for WebBoard. WebBoard is a graphical interface for pastebin services which can work either as a standalone application or as an applet from gnome- panel. Jaunty currently includes version 0.2.1+bzr20090119, a snapshot I took from upstream's bzr branch (which was taken over by a new maintainer after two years of inactivity) which changed the default pastebin server from the now unavailable paste.ubuntu-nl.org to paste.debian.net, and yesterday the first release by the new maintainer, 0.2.2, which brings us several benefits, was released. The improvements it gives is that that bug #332666, which made WebBoard fail from submitting the paste with the default selection (Plain Text) and bug #329563 (adding a manpage for the standalone application and moving the executable for the applet out of the path) are now fixed. Additionally, the reason why I am requesting this exception is that it now let's the user change the name with which the paste will be send (a quite desirable, new, feature), and changing the text box to a GtkSourceView (with nice syntax highlighting!). The new version also fixes copyright headers and the like... I'm attaching a diff with the changes between the new release and the snapshot currently in Ubuntu. Note that it was generated with bzr, as several files were moved and a normal diff can not handle this properly. ** Description changed: Please sync webboard 0.2.2.-1 from Debian unstable to Jaunty. [Bug 334848] Re: [Jaunty] pbuilder-dist does not recognize any distributions at all
You are missing package «debootstrap». Perhaps it should be added to ubuntu-dev-tools as a Suggests? 2009/2/26 Rolf Leggewie launchpad@rolf.leggewie.biz: Why is it not an option? The semantics are that of a Depends, unless pbuilder-dist is packaged separately. It is not solely a Recommends. [Bug 292923] Re: CVE-2008-4796: missing input sanitising
I've updated the bug tasks. The main one is now Fix released as Jaunty has the new version with the security fix, and I've added a task for Intrepid and one for Hardy as they both have the same affected version. I guess the revision for Intrepid can also be uploaded to Hardy, as the only difference between both right now is that Intrepid has a new revision adding a debian/watch file. Vincenzo: Please don't modify the latest changelog entry, but add a new one («dch -i -D intrepid-security») with a version number according to point 4. in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SecurityUpdateProcedures, which in this case would be 1.2.4-1ubuntu0.8.10. However, as Jaunty has version 1.2.4-1, which is lower than 1.2.4-1ubuntu0.8.10 («dpkg --compare- versions 1.2.4-1 gt 1.2.4-1ubuntu0.8.10; echo $?»), I think in this case 1.2.4-0ubuntu0.8.10 should be used. Here's the upstream changelog (after removing some not relevant entries): Important Improvements: - Added support for media questions (that is, with sound or images). - Added support for questions with more than one correct and two incorrect answers (three of them are randomly chosen at runtime), and for questions with only two (one correct and one incorrect) answers. - When a location is indicated with --database, the default categories are still loaded in addition to the indicated ones. - There is now support for categories in different languages. Other Improvements: - Freevial does now work with Python version 2.4, in addition to 2.5. - Decreased the time it takes for the wheel to switch to a question when the game is muted. - Added an option (--preload) to load everything at startup. - Added an option (--max-fps) to change the FPS limit. - All .xml files are now validated using a XSD schema when they are loaded. - Forced line breaks in XML files are now represented by br/ (LP: 179621). - All error messages are now written to stderr. Bug Fixes: - Fixed a bug in the wheel which could cause it to return to the team selection screen instead of showing a question. - User requested end of the game (e key) works correctly now (LP: #184420). - Now mouse and joystick events count as activity and delay the in-game help. ** Affects: intrepid-backports Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Please backport Freevial 1.3-1 from Jaunty to Intrepid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/332693 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Backporters, which is the registrant for Intrepid Ibex Backports. -- ubuntu-backports mailing list ubuntu-backports@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-backports

Re: REVU: Filtering and Tags
Updated: 2009/2/14 Siegfried Gevatter (RainCT) rai...@ubuntu.com: I guess you get the idea... There are updated and archived which can be true/false/both, and there is tag. As I've already said, more options will come in the future. Now there are more options :). You can, in addition to the previous possibilities, search for names containing a certain character sequence, packages where a certain user commented one (you can list multiple users, and it will look for packages where ANY -and not ALL- of them has commented) and an exclusive tag search. Also, you can get all this without manually messing with the URL: just click the little Search / Filter link at the top right of any REVU page! :) -- Siegfried-Angel Gevatter Pujals (RainCT) Ubuntu Developer. REVU: Filtering and Tags
Hey, I've finally added support for tagging source packages on REVU. Tags can be formed by alphanumeric characters and dashes (-), and both Reviewers (ie, MOTUs) and Moderators can change the tags assigned to source packages. Any name can be used as a tag, but the idea is that there will be a few official ones used as part of the normal workflow. They are displayed at the bottom of the details page (just above the subscribers list). If you are a Moderator or Reviewer you'll see an [edit] link next to them, which will allow you to change them using an inline form (Ajax powered); to enumerate several tags, separate them with spaces or commas. Another place where you can see tags is in the Tags Cloud, at http://revu.ubuntuwire.com/tags. Clicking the name of any tag will show all (new and updated) unarchived packages which have that tag set. Another new feature is that I've reworked a bit the logic in the index page so that you can now use customized filters (I guess I'll add some more useful stuff and a search form within the next weeks/months :)). Some examples: - http://revu.ubuntuwire.com/?updated=truearchived=both See all updated (not new) packages, both unarchived and archived ones. - http://revu.ubuntuwire.com/?updated=both See both, new and updated, packages (only unarchived). - http://revu.ubuntuwire.com/?updated=bothtag=sample Same as above but only showing packages tagged sample. I guess you get the idea... There are updated and archived which can be true/false/both, and there is tag. As I've already said, more options will come in the future. - And now, it's your turn. What are we going to use tags for? Discuss! :) -- Siegfried-Angel Gevatter Pujals (RainCT) Ubuntu Developer. Debian Contributor. P.S.: In case someone feels the URLs above would be nice to use in some script, please don't! [Bug 311389] Re: gnome-backgrounds should be installed by default
I agree that having more wallpapers by default would be great. When I tried KDE4 one of the first impressions I had was wow, those wallpapers are nice, with Ubuntu I can't say the same (it's not that the default one is ugly, but it is the only one available and gives a rather poor experience). -- gnome-backgrounds should be installed by default https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/311389 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 151135] Re: scribes doesn't honor the GNOME toolbar settings.
I don't agree. If GNOME allows users to choose if he wants text, icons or both, all applications should honour that setting. Re: Needs Packaging bug reports
Only speaking about the Launchpad bugs (I still have to familiarize myself with the complete spec, and personally I'm not really happy with having the needs-packaging bugs on Launchpad like now, but I'll focus about the announcement made at the start of this thread now), perhaps I'm missing something but I think there isn't anything changing from how it has always been. Bugs directly filed against the Ubuntu project, with the needs-packaging tag, importance wishlist, usually containing [needs-packaging] in the subject and, once someone has checked that the request is valid, importance set to confirmed or triaged. This is how it's been since I've got involved with Ubuntu. The script which Brian proposes to run is just going to help with this (actually, some months ago I used to run two scripts myself for some time -after asking on #ubuntu-bugs , where I only got positive answers-, one which added the needs-packaging tag to those bugs whose summary started with [needs-packaging] but didn't have it, and another one which set needs-packaging bugs with no importance set to wishlist, after I got tired of doing that myself on dozens of bugs, so Brian's idea is nothing new). So, is the current/proposed way to handle needs-packaging bugs perfect? Of course not, and we should probably look on how to improve it, but I don't see how that's a reason to not make the current job for triagers more easy until we come up with an improved workflow. -- Siegfried-Angel Gevatter Pujals (RainCT) Ubuntu Developer. [Bug 109289] Re: Naim returns erroneous error messages
Oh, right. I hadn't seen that your .diff.gz also touches the main.c file directly (file naim-scrensessions.diff is unnecessary and may have been added by mistake.. I've deleted it for now). I've uploaded the package now :). And yes, you can make packages for intrepid on hardy, just be sure to test that they build correctly. You have instructions on an easy way to do this here: http://bloc.eurion.net/archives/2009/test-build-debian- packages/ Before someone asks, this new version is now in Jaunty, not in Hardy and no in Intrepid, and it is extremely unlikely that it'll get there (unless it's into the -backports repository, in case the new version has some interesting feature). If you thing this bug is important enough to be fixed in Hardy/Intrepid, the fix will need to be isolated so that we can upload a new version with just the minimal change. [Bug 328066] [NEW] Why is there a tab for MOTD?
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: screen-profiles I think that the current positioning of the MOTD is suboptimal, because of the following reasons: a) You don't see it directly, but instead you have to switch over to it. b) It has its own tab, which takes up space and requires more key presses to switch from one tab to another if you have to go over it. c) Having it there pushes you to want to look at it and distracts you from your workflow. Therefore, I suggest showing the MOTD above the shell prompt, and having the shell tab enabled by default (so that you can see the MOTD and start working right away, without having to switch over to it from the menu which you usually don't need). ** Affects: screen-profiles (Ubuntu) Importance: Wishlist Status: New ** Changed in: screen-profiles (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Wishlist -- Why is there a tab for MOTD? https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/328066 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 109289] Re: Naim returns erroneous error messages
Hi. Here are some more mistakes I've found. You don't need to upload a new .diff.gz (I've already fixed them locally), but I'm explaining them so that you don't repeat them in the future: * Your .diff.gz contained changes which were automatically done by autotools and which aren't necessary there. In the future please check the .diff.gz/.debdiff files you upload in case there is something there which you haven't touched, and if so remove it (and ensure that the the patch still works afterwards). * The syntax for closing a Launchpad bug is LP: #, not Closes:. Also, uploads like this always are for the current development release (which now is jaunty, not hardy). * Recently it was decided that the Maintainer field change doesn't need to be documented in debian/changelog any more. (In case you used the update-maintainer script, newer versions of it don't touch the changelog anymore). And finally the most important one, which is why I haven't uploaded this yet. Instead of modifying main.c, you have included a file called naim- scrensessions.diff and which contains the changes (but that file isn't used for anything). I guess this was a mistake and you wanted to patch main.c instead, but can you please confirm this? Interesting idea. I've uploaded a patched version of xserver-xorg-input-synaptics for Intrepid to my PPA (https://launchpad.net/~rainct/+archive/ppa), where it should be available in some hours.
