[Bug 1757180] Re: nvidia-prime can't switch off the discrete GPU
Hi. I do not know if I am currently being affected by the same Bug. My system is: intel i7 3770 (HD4000 igpu) nvidia GTX 960 I have Kubuntu 18.04 updated to date. I was using 390.48 nvidia proprietary driver correctly. I decided to try nvidia-prime in Kubuntu 18.04, so from the BIOS I enabled iGPU as the primary display. I opened nvidia-settings GUI and from Prime options I chose Intel. After entering user password, it took about a minute for the message to appear that the change had been successful. So I rebooted the system and it worked correctly, the system was using intel iGPU. But then when trying to return to nvidia something went wrong. After rebooting the system, PRIME options of nvidia-settings GUI disappeared. nvidia-settings GUI is only shown in the minimal version, only items from Application Profiles and nvidia-settings Configuration is displayed. If I select my nvidia as a Primary Display from BIOS, the system enters in graphic mode but it apparently is not using nvidia driver, system and graphics work very slow and take time to refresh. nvidia-settings GUI just keeps showing minimal interface with almost no options. All this despite the fact that from the terminal, PRIME is informed that nvidia is selected: $ sudo prime-select query nvidia I have tried to purge all nvidia package and reinstalling the driver from driver manager, but everything remains the same. Since troubleshooting nvidia problems is more difficult with new packaging system: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1011589/what-has-changed-in-nvidia-proprietary-driver-packaging-in-18-04-bionic I do not know if I did it right. These are the packages that I currently have installed: http://pasteall.org/915940 Just a question to see if I can reverse PRIME changes. Which configuration file is modified when you select nvidia or intel from PRIME options in nvidia-setings GUI (after entering user key)? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1757180 Title: nvidia-prime can't switch off the discrete GPU To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-prime/+bug/1757180/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1444226] [NEW] [Kubuntu 15.04 beta] can't connect to wifi with Ralink RT2561/RT61 and NetworkManager
Public bug reported: Hello. I have a Ralink with RT2561/RT61 chip: $ lspci | grep -i network 05:00.0 Network controller: Ralink corp. RT2561/RT61 802.11g PCI In Kubuntu 15.04 my connection is very unstable using NetworkManager. Most of the time the connection is not established. And very few times the connection is established but after a few seconds the connection drops. But with Wicd my connection is stable. I installed Wicd from Kubuntu 14.04 using chroot. Unfortunately in this new Kubuntu version if you try to uninstall network-manager then plasma-desktop is requested to be uninstalled (apparently because of plasma-nm). So I do the following to use Wicd: 1- Start the system and try not use Network Manager 2- kill network manager $ sudo pkill -9 NetworkManager 3- Start wicd from menu internet And I can connect to WiFi and the connection is stable. By the way, it's a bad thing that you can not uninstall network-manager to use another manager in Kubuntu. So, at least there should be an option from the systemsettings to can choose the default network manager. [Bug 1442908] Re: Realtek RTL8723BE wireless card drops connection in Linux kernel 3.19.0-13
Hello. I have a Ralink with RT2561/RT61 chip. In Kubuntu 15.04 my connection is very unstable using NetworkManager, but with Wicd my connection is stable. Could you try Wicd? The problem is that in Kubuntu 15.04 is not possible uninstall network-manager because it also uninstalled plasma-desktop. To test you should do: $ sudo apt-get install wicd wicd-gtk During installation it will ask you to add your user to the group netdev. $ sudo pkill -9 NetworkManager Start wicd from menu internet. If it does not start, you do: $ sudo rm /var/run/wicd/wicd.pid and try again. You note that Wicd does not automatically detect the encryption mode for your network. You must choose the password type from propierties. Probabily if you use WEP you should choose Wep (Passphrase), or if it Wpa you choose WPA 1/2 (Hex [0-9/A-F]). [Bug 1436891] Re: Cannot connect to any WiFi access point which runs wireless-N
Could the problem be related to kwalletmanager and password management system? When I try to connect to wifi then KWallet insists on being used. I select Cancel and the wifi network is not connected. I've noticed that KWallet takes the control of the system. In previous versions of Kubuntu, I could disable KWallet from systemsettings, but now I can't find this entry. After launching KWallet from the menu and from KWallet settings, I can disable it. But KWallet gets worse, it continues requesting to be used, and if I try to open it from the menu, KWallet freezes. In the end I decided to use it and set a password. The wifi connection was established but the connection falls at few seconds. From LiveDVD I can not connect to wifi too, but KWallet is not open asking to be used in LiveDVD, but I do not know, maybe kwallet is intervening in the background too. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1436891 Title: Cannot connect to any WiFi access point which runs wireless-N To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1436891/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1375333] [NEW] [wishlist] Blender 3D needs more attention from Ubuntu
Public bug reported: Blender 3D is an OpenSource jewel, this is one of the best examples of how an OpenSource project can be well led and grow daily in their development. Blender 3D is a complex software, competing on a par with other great softwares of big companies. I can mention you some of the problems discussed in www.blenderartists.org about Blender and Ubuntu: * Blender 3D is outdated in Ubuntu: The development of Blender 3D is very fast incorporating important new features in each release. To date, the stable version of Blender is 2.71, and is close to release the 2.72. In Trusty Blender 2.69 is currently in the repositories. Even in the unreleased Ubuntu Utopic the version is 2.70. * Blender 3D Ubuntu packages do not include the precompiled CUDA Kernel. The GPU acceleration on nVidia cards is very important to the Cycles engine. The official Blender 3D binaries include precompiled CUDA Kernel. But in Ubuntu to compile the kernel you need to install CUDA Toolkit, this means installing a lot of packages for developers that you will never use. According to the next thread: https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/544289/can-applications-to-use- cuda-technology-just-installing-nvidia-driver-on-linux-/ You should need to install only the runtime librerieas, but apparently that does not work in Ubuntu. Perhaps this should be revised in Ubuntu and it would be good to have a metapackage to install corresponding CUDA runtime libraries for Blender, instead to need to install all CUDA Toolkit for developers. * Some Blender HotKeys malfunctions are reported and apparently only occur in Ubuntu / Unity: http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?316258-double-press-key- on-Linux Please, users of the best Linux distribution and the best 3D software will be grateful if you pay attention to these points. [Bug 831768] Re: aptitude cannot handle conflicts with multiarch enabled
I think (maybe) the problem is finally fixed with v0.6.8.1 As you know, ppa-purge used aptitude. I have updated the system with the Xorg Edgers PPA repository. I installed aptitude v0.6.8.1 in Kubuntu 12.04 Precise. Then ppa-purge has been able to resolve dependencies. This is disconcerting. In the bug report some people have nVidia cards - ATI and Intel, and all with the same problem. @Alexei, This bug is not related to that bug. More details about this issue: In Kubuntu (KDE) when I suspend to RAM from KMenuSleep the system always goes into sleep mode correctly. When the system wakes up the mouse problem happens that I had mentioned before. Now in this instance where the mouse is not detected dmesg shows: [ 9109.020745] PM: Finishing wakeup. [ 9109.020746] Restarting tasks ... [ 9109.020899] usb 3-1: USB disconnect, device number 17 [ 9109.042179] done. [ 9112.280061] hub 3-0:1.0: Cannot enable port 1. Maybe the USB cable is bad? [ 9115.368057] hub 3-0:1.0: Cannot enable port 1. Maybe the USB cable is bad? In this instance if I run sudo pm-suspend instead suspend from KMenuSleep, the system tries to go to suspend mode but fails and immediately restarted but this time with the mouse working. Now dmesg shows: [ 9177.792152] PM: resume of devices complete after 7554.485 msecs [ 9177.792340] PM: resume devices took 7.556 seconds [ 9177.792443] PM: Finishing wakeup. Every time I try suspend with sudo pm-suspend the system fails to suspend but the mouse works again. I clarify that the mouse works fine, and I've tried the same USB port with other devices and it has not problem. [Bug 987531] Re: cpufreq si not working properly
I have a problem with CPU over ondemand governor on Kubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin, but I'm not sure if this is related with that report. CPU AMD Athlon X2 4800+ under powernow-k8 driver. Tested with 3.2.0-24-generic Kernel, and 3.3.6 Kernel from this PPA: https://launchpad.net/~upubuntu-com/+archive/kernel The problem is that my CPU constantly running at full speed over ondemand governor (2.50 GHz) even the CPU usage is low , with a consequent increase in temperature. This problem did not occur in Kubuntu 11.10 Oneiric, which under ondemand CPU cores running at 1000 MHz when CPU usage is low and frecuency increased when required. Therefore, the CPU temperature remains lower in Oneiric. I set conservative as governor with cpufreq-set, but CPU is always running at full speed too. [Bug 576555] Re: [x1400] screen flicker (lucid)
@kurt belgrave, I did not have flickers or flashes again in exactly the same conditions in Maverick, ie the login or when changing the display properties. That is, with regard to this bug I think that no longer happens in Maverick, but with desktop effects enabled is a bad performance in general: flicker, screen corruption, poor performance on video playback, etc. You can see my xorg log in this report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kdebase-workspace/+bug/652401 -- [x1400] screen flicker (lucid) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/576555 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 652401] [NEW] [ATI Radeon x1250] KWin Desktop effects not active by default
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace I have installed Kubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat (beta) Updated to date (RC packages I think). My motherboard is ASUS M2A-VM HDMI with integrated video card ATI Radeon x1250. Using free drivers xserver-xorg-video-radeon 1:6.13.1-1ubuntu5, libgl1-mesa-dri 7.9~git20100924-0ubuntu1. Have acceleration: $ glxinfo | grep direct direct rendering: Yes But the desktop effects are disabled and from SystemSettings in Desktop Effects all options are disabled and I can not change any option of them.
