[Bug 755841]

2012-08-06 Thread antistress
(In reply to comment #94)
By other OS, I presume you mean the ones that *only* support pageflipping
compositors? Which for the reasons highlighted above work just fine.

IVB in theory supports vsync'ed writes to the scanout, give or take a few
hundred microseconds in signal latency between the display engine and the
render pipeline. When I get my hands on an IVB, I'll hook up the required
kernel/xf86-video-intel infrastructure and see if the claimed retrofit of
 vsync
 works...

In the meantime, the only answer is take a leaf out of the other OSes playbook
 and only use pageflipping.

Sorry i'm about to buy an IVB to replace my GMA950.
I've read that since v2.6.38 Linux handles page flipping and it also seems that
DRI2 can handle it : am i wrong ? Therefore could it be solved using current
stack ? Or is a new compositor like Wayland needed ? Thanks

[Bug 28835] Re: Unmount in volume right-click menu, is tech-speak and undiscoverable

2010-01-06 Thread antistress
i like proposal within comment #78
maybe it could be completed, i.e. keep unmount word but make it
understandable by adding something (in preparation for removing)
3 possibilities :
- keep unmount where needed
- change unmount for something more understandable
- keep unmount and make some pedagogy (is it the right place to make use of
education ?)

[Bug 349336] Re: Ambiguous wording in confirmation alert box

2009-11-14 Thread antistress
I'm perplexed by this bug.

To sum up things, a user with a perfectly working system may ask
Computer Janitor to do some cleanup. Then Computer Janitor will suggest
to remove some packages. If the user decides to follow this advice,
Computer Janitor will then warn him : Hey ! Don't play fool you may
break everything

It's unfair that Computer Janitor gives non-reliable advices and ask user to
assume all responsibility.
I don't think that replacing a warning (« This may break your system, if you
need them. ») by another (« Removing packages that are still needed can cause
errors. ») can be called a bugfix

Computer Janitor should be secured or removed

2009-11-14 Thread antistress
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: file-roller

File Roller (like Eye of GNOME, Nautilus etc.) provides a useful Open With...

But unlike other GNOME applications, it doesn't lead to a submenu displaying a

[Bug 325973] Re: gnome-session keeps respawning nautilus when no desktop is drawed

2009-10-12 Thread antistress
The only reason why I turn off the nautilus desktop is that i don't like the
desktop metaphor (whereas I like the Netbook Remix way for instance).
All my files are managed through a proper Nautilus window with a navigation
toolbar and sort display options.
Therefore i turn off the nautilus desktop to not have useless options like a
contextual menu for creating folders on the desktop etc. Because i like
consistency. I don't like having useless things. As you can see my reasons are
essentially intellectual and for me i must admit that the bug is minor

[Bug 221112] Re: Can't use space bar in search bar when using french alternative keyboard

2009-10-08 Thread antistress
Sebastien : adding a space with the mouse is not trivial
You have to open a document with spaces in it, then use right-click to copy
paste the space each time you want to add another word separated with a space
to a sentence.
Of course it's possible but...
The space bar is largely used on a day-to-day basis and not having it working
prevents the user to write text with its computer. Not a minor bug for french
users, honestly

whole picture (=wait to see if people get accustomed to it, otherwise
you will have a lot of negative answers based on the fact that a lot of

[Bug 351008] Re: In Preferences menu, change Mouse entry label since it also allows to configure touchpads

2009-10-04 Thread antistress
True.
Also how many people will look at Mouse menu entry to find/set something
else, like a touchpad (a touchpad is not a mouse, neither a keyboard is)
If the generic name (pointing device) is too abstract maybe we should use an
enumeration. What about Mouse touchpad?

[Bug 164298] Re: Print to file should say Export to PDF instead of Print to PDF

2009-09-22 Thread antistress
Indeed, current implementation is wrong and has to be fixed.

Current implementation reflects the developer's model rather than the
user's model

User can't know that there is an export functionality since it's hidden in a
non-related menu entry
Question is not do we have to fix this but how to fix this
(unfortunately i have no skill for coding)

[Bug 164298] Re: Print to file should say Export to PDF instead of Print to PDF

2009-09-22 Thread antistress
Actually the current design implementation in Print dialog box is not good
since the beginning.
The good way would have been to make the functionality available to other
applications and let them decide if they want/need to use it. I guess that some
applications would have implemented the feature and some other not. I also
guess that those which would have implemented it would have used a dedicated
entry Export as... in the File menu.
Not all applications would have need it : some applications are editor some
other are viewers ; some applications deal with text, some other with pictures,
video or music.
I guess that a text editor or a web browser would have use it whereas a video
editor would have not.
Concerning document viewers (evince) or image viewers (EoG) i don't know if
they would have use it.

Instead of that, developers took a shortcut in adding the functionality
for all applications in the Print dialog box.

I see 2 possibilities (although i don't know if it's technically doable)
regarding former comment by mac_v :
A)
1°) Remove all the print as file stuff in the Print dialog box
2°) Create a trick to display a dedicated entry Export as... in the File menu
each time the application has a Print entry
3°) Create a setting to allow applications to refuse the Export as... menu
entry
This approach would be similar to the recent GNOME design decision to drop
icons from menus by default : each application can decide to display some icons
anyway by using the always-show-icons property of GtkImageMenuItem.

B)
1°) Remove all the print as file stuff in the Print dialog box
2°) Create an easy way for GNOME applications to add a dedicated entry Export
as... in the File menu
(see comment #16)
3°) Fill bug reports against applications that would take benefit from that
functionality

What do you think?

That sounds reasonable even if GNOME would be better if you remove all the
print as file current implementation in the Print dialog box.
GNOME would die if each time on thing is modified, the old one is not removed

Besides applications are not going to add the new menu entry if the old

[Bug 407621] Re: (design decision) Icons missing from context menu , dialogue buttons , firefox bookmark favicons

2009-09-13 Thread antistress
I think that there is a bug in Firefox seacrch box related to that decision.
In the search box, the icon of the current search engine is displayed but if
you look at the drop down list there is no icon !
The search engine drop down list should use the always-show-icons property of
GtkImageMenuItem

[Bug 275320] Re: Reset size with ctrl+0 from num block for eog nautilus

2009-09-10 Thread antistress
Considering recent bug fix in Epiphany 2.27.92, it looks like that bug could be
related to applications themselves.
Therefore i add Nautilus and Eye of GNOME to that report since both have a menu
entry for size resetting that points out to ctrl+0 shorcut.
I don't add Evince since i didn't see a similar entry in its menu therefore i'm
not sure that ctrl+0 is supposed to be a shorcut (which could be a lack of
consistency through GNOME but this would be another bug)
