[Bug 315684] Re: nautilus crashes while trying to mount NAS

2009-01-30 Thread dancer58
Samba and smbfs were updated yesterday (1/29/2009) from proposed and then I
could mount the storage folders
They mounted slow, sometimes had to try twice but they mounted and I could move
files
sambaVersion: 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3.5
smbfsVersion: 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3.5

Then comes today (1/30/2009)and Linux was updated (I mounted storage before I
did updates and they mounted)
Linux asus 2.6.27-11-generic #1 SMP Thu Jan 29 19:24:39 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux
now I get the error below (every time)

Unable to mount location
Failed to retrieve share list from server

Nothing in error log!!!

It worked for one day, there's hope

[Bug 315684] Re: nautilus crashes while trying to mount NAS

2009-01-30 Thread dancer58
date 1/30/2009
With all proposed (samba) and regular (nautilus) updates I am able to mount
storage shares
I have 3 shares on storage drive (network drive)
When I mount through Nautilus (go/network/Windows
Network/workgroup/storage-7988) it will mount the share I choose but cannot
mount another share unless I start over (go/network ect.). Even then I have to
try 2 times to get another share mounted on network drive. Once they are
mounted they work OK.
I also had to do a shutdown (not reboot) a couple of times to get shares to
mount

This still will not mount shares on network drive
sudo mount -t smbfs //192.168.1.11/barb /home/harold/AA/barb -o nounix,rw
Not only will it not mount but it causes other problems, the main one is
shutdown does not work. It hangs part way through shutdown and I have to hold
power button to shut down

2009-01-29 Thread dancer58
Additional Information::

Intrepid program versions:
Samba Version: 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3.4
Linux asus 2.6.27-11-generic #1 SMP Wed Jan 28 00:02:01 UTC 2009 i686
GNU/Linux
smbfs Version: 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3.4

These problems happen in Intrepid and Jaunty

The next sequence does NOT always happen, sometimes I get the same
results as problem 2 (appears to work but nothing)

in Nautilus I clicked GO then NETWORK (storage-7988 shows in right pane )
this is when I clicked on storage-7988 in right pane and 3 shared folders
appear in right pane
I click on one barb and in the left pane barb on storage-7988 appears

[Bug 315684] Re: nautilus crashes while trying to mount NAS

2009-01-28 Thread dancer58
Additional Information

When I try to mount a folder on my storage device in Nautilus it does part of
the mount
On the left pane of Nautilus I see the folder I'm trying to mount but when I
try to open it it dissapears. I looked at the folder it should have mounted to
but it was not there, I did this before I tried to open it from the left pane
of Nautilus.
After this Nautilus would not show the contents of storage when I clicked on
go, network, then storage

This has quit working lately also:
sudo mount -t smbfs //192.168.1.11/PUBLIC /home/harold/AA/PUBLIC -o nounix,rw

I have no way to mount the storage disk now unless I boot to WinXP or
Win7

Any help would be appreciated

[Bug 315684] Re: nautilus crashes while trying to mount NAS

2009-01-26 Thread dancer58
Nautilus does mount and unmount most of the time

Clicking Go then Network works every time, the problem comes when I
click on storage-7988 to show the shared folders, sometimes it doesn't
show anything, the rest of the time it shows the shared folders

If I click on one of the shared folders it will mount it part of the
time. The rest of the time I get one of two errors:

ERROR BOX #1
The folder contents could not be displayed.
Sorry, could not display all the contents of public on storage-7988: No data
available

ERROR BOX #2
Could not display smb://storage-7988/public/.
Error: No data available
Please select another viewer and try again.

I can click OK on the error box to clear it, try again and it will mount

I suspect it is a timing error

If after a share opens and I click on the back arrow most of the time it
will not go back to the previous page

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash
 report you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using

[Bug 315286] [NEW] Nautilus will not mount NAS drive

2009-01-08 Thread dancer58
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Drive

When trying to mount the NAS storage drive with Nautilus v2.25.2-0ubuntu4 (Go,
Network, and click on storage drive), I get two different errors seen below
the first is a error box and the second is a segment fault ( not at same time )

1. Could not display smb://storage-/public/.(public is a
folder with data in it)
There is no application installed for this file type

2. Jan 6 12:16:10 asus kernel: [ 129.830075] gvfsd-smb[4409]: segfault at 0

If I look at properties it shows no files in folder public

2008-12-13 Thread dancer58
Printer still does not work
The printer worked twice from Hardy alpha3 to final release. It would start and
stop after updates
I don't use Hardy any longer but did boot Hardy and did updates and tried
HP5740
It still doesn't work.

I Intrepid I have it working but HP5740 is still not listed in printer
configuration
I use 5700 and use location: 192.168.1.5:L2. May not do all the printer is
able to do but it works

When trying to copy pictures from PC to phone ( samsung SCH-U706 with SD memory
card ) I get error: Operation not supported by backend
Copying pictures from phone to PC works

I can use 'send to' to copy contacts from PC to phone but can not send
contacts from phone to computer ( both work in Hardy) Maybe a different
problem ?

Installed bluetooth programs:
bluetooth, python-bluez, gnome-bluetooth, bluez, bluez-network, bluez-audio,
blues-cups, bluez-serial, bluez-input, libbtctl4, libbluetooth2, libbluetooth3,
libbluetooth-dev, blues-alsa, blues-gstreamer, obexpushed, obex-date-server,
gnome-vfs-obexftp, obexftp, bluez-utils.

Anything I can try ?

Re: [Bug 269656] Re: AN IRRELEVANT LICENSE IS PRESENTED TO YOU FREE-OF-CHARGE ON STARTUP

2008-09-16 Thread dancer58

Come on people, calm down already. Everyone involved, both on the
Ubuntu and Mozilla side, have said that they will work on this.

I agree everybody needs to calm down and see what the what is worked
out. This is getting out of hand.

I am a new user to Linux and have used dos, windows ect. I have seen all
kinds of Eula's and I as most window users just say yes and go on.

If and I say IF the problem is not resolved then I think Ubuntu should
install another browser but leave Firefox in repositories so anyone can
install it if they want.

[Bug 192005] Re: No Sound in Hardy

2008-04-15 Thread dancer58
I checked drivers in Gutsy and under lib/modules/2.6.22-14/kernal/sound there
is:
ac97_bus.ko
sound_firmware.ko
soundcore.ko

The sound_firmware.ko is missing under Hardy

I am looking for answers
I have not heard anything for a long time
Is this bug being worked on???

Thanks
Harold

2008-04-03 Thread dancer58
I installed 386 but it did not help.
It's a bit frustrating but I keep trying everybody's suggestions

I suspect that the driver is not being loaded but I don't know how to
tell, I.ve got a lot to learn about Linux.

One of the updates has changed the problem
Now neither Nautilus or Thunar can see the camera ( does not mount camera like
it use to ). I can still move pictures from camera with F-spot but have no way
to delete pictures in camera.
It would be great if F-spot could remove pictures from camera

Thanks

[Bug 198774] [NEW] nautilus

2008-03-05 Thread dancer58
Public bug reported:

Hardy 8.10 with all the latest updates as of 03/05/2008
Nautilus 2.21.93

I have no idea what to send, I will be glad to send whatever would be
needed

I am not sure what to report this problem against. I have a Kodak Z712IS camera
and when I plug it in to USB it brings up Nautilus showing the camera. All
seems ok at this point.
When I unmount the camera I can no longer use the top bar/panel so I can no
longer open anything from there, also I have to forse Nautilus to close, it
leaves the display but stays in the lower tray/panel. At this point I press the
power button to power down, ctrl-alt-del prings up the shutdown menu but when I
clicked on restart it did not work

A side point!! It use to be when I plugged the camera in F-Spot would ask to
upload pictures and do it by date which was great. I would like to get back to
this instead of Nautilus

Thanks

[Bug 192005] Re: No Sound in Hardy

2008-02-28 Thread dancer58
No I have not modified anything
I have done new install of Hardy 3 times with same results (alpha3 twice and
alpha4 once)

There is no sound when booting live CD on any Hardy but there is in
Gutsy

Good question though, I have been known to break things in WinXP :)

[Bug 192005] Re: No Sound in Hardy

2008-02-27 Thread dancer58
Here is the results

cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#0 | head
cat: /proc/asound/card0/codec#0: No such file or directory

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/home/harold# alsamixer
alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such device

I looked in :
/proc/asound there is no card0 or codec#0

Wish I knew more about linux, but I suspect there is not a driver being loaded

Any other suggestions ?

[Bug 192005] Re: No Sound in Hardy

2008-02-25 Thread dancer58
What is the status of this bug.
I am using Hardy Alpha5 now
Is there something I should do?

I looked in /dev/snd and I only see 2 files seq and timer.
I booted Gutsy live CD and there were several others there, sound works in Gutsy

[Bug 190497] Re: nautilus left pane problem

2008-02-25 Thread dancer58
Problem also in alpha5

More info:
I have Nautilus left pane set for tree
When I open Nautilus the first time after booting and try to open filesystem
tree (click on triangle to the left of filesystem) is when I get the problem.
If I open filesystem in right pane (click on filesystem) Nautilus will work
right until next reboot

[Bug 182894] Re: gdesklets doesn.t work

2008-02-20 Thread dancer58
Just a point of interest

I am using Hardy alpha4/python-2.5.1-6 and have gDesklets .36beta and it
is working for the calender. I used (./configure, make checkinstall
-D) to build a .deb file and have used it a couple of times.

I did move gDesklets-data files to .gdesklets so they could be found

Hope this is useful

[Bug 190497] Re: nautilus left pane problem

2008-02-11 Thread dancer58
I hope this helps
I am sending to pictures that I hope will help explain my explantion

Nautilus left pane problem

When Nautilus is opened Home folder is on top, next is File System, then
C, then D, then E then H (see left pane of picture Nautilus-1)

When I click on the triangle next to File System (picture Nautilus-1), File
System goes to the bottom and C is where File System was (see Picture
Nautilus-2) and it says loading under C. I can open all others and all of them
work OK.
I can click on C and it will open in the right pane (loading is still displayed
under C in left pane)
If I then click on the triangle beside C Nautilus closes and reopens

I tried opening Nautilus in terminal window and I found Nautilus worked
right if I used ROOT terminal but did not work right if I used user
terminal.

[Bug 182894] Re: gdesklets doesn.t work

2008-01-15 Thread dancer58
I installed gdesklets on my laptop, which is running Gutsy, and it
installed ok so I coppied the .deb install files from cache and
installed them on my desktop but had the same problem. I would have to
assume that the update on Herron must break gdesklets.

[Bug 182873] audio does not work

2008-01-14 Thread dancer58
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apparmor

I do not have much linux experence so this may be something I should
know haw to fix, however Ubumtu 710 worked Great

I get messages when I right click on sound icon. On preferances it says
: The volume control did not find any elements and/or devices to
control. This means either that you don't have the right GStreamer
plugins installed, or that you don't have a sound card configured. I
don't know what I should do

Hope this is useful
